Profile

Personality

zi4Z8xk.png

If Thomas could be summed up in a single word, it would be sincere. He is boisterous and cheeky, yet he is also incredibly earnest, and wants nothing more than for everyone around him to be happy. His confidence, sense of humor, and friendly disposition make him quite popular at school, though this popularity may also breed some resentment in his peers.

While he ultimately has the best intentions, Thomas is still prone to bouts of stubbornness. Not only can he be self-centered and inconsiderate, but he can also at times exhibit a woeful lack of foresight. In his relationships, he can be clingy and even possessive of his family and close friends, becoming bitter and jealous if he feels they are growing distant from him or are going to abandon him for somebody else.

Although his passionate, hard-working attitude is one of his strong suits, many of his faults lie in it as well. Thomas he can be impatient, competitive, and irritable, (though rarely mean-spirited). However, he rarely strays from his convictions, surmounting strife and stress with his own brand of blinding optimism. He believes in action and will proudly stand up for what he believes is right, even if it conflicts with commonly held notions. This fierce loyalty is on full display in his friendships, especially when it comes to his best mate Percy, who he is extremely protective of.

Thomas embodies an intriguing paradox; proud yet humble, hot-blooded yet reliable, socially awkward yet charming. But amidst this complexity, he is simply a young man who cares very, very deeply for his family and friends. He feels his emotions strongly, whether they be outrage at some perceived injustice, despair at having made a mistake that caused trouble for others, or sheer, unadulterated delight at having fun with his friends.

Powers & Abilities

A Conductor’s special abilities take the form of both magical powers (such as teleportation and weapon summoning) and physical enhancements (such as herculean strength and superhuman speed). These abilities, whether they are magical in nature or not, can only be used as long as the Conductor has a sufficient supply of Gold Dust, which is stored in special whistles.

Enhancements
Through the use of Gold Dust, Thomas' physical abilities are enhanced to a near superhuman degree. In this powered-up (or "Sparkling") state, his overall strength, speed, and agility far surpass anything within the realms of normal human capability. Not only can he withstand blows that would severely injure (or even kill) a normal person, but he can also perform extremely powerful attacks of his own.
Magic
In addition to their physical enhancements, Conductors also gain an assortment of magical abilities. When needed, they can call upon their Gold Dust to take the form of a magical weapon for use in combat. Each weapon is unique to the user, and is usually reflective of their personality in some way. Depending on the weapon, a Conductor may even be able to summon multiple of them at once.

Conductors also gain the ability to magically teleport from place to another, by dispersing their physical forms to collect again and reform in a new location. While this is by far the the fastest way to get to a desired location, doing so requires a considerable amount of Gold Dust, so it is generally used sparingly. It also notoriously easy to accidentally teleport to the wrong location if one is unable to fully concentrate on where they want to go.

Weapon
Thomas' signature weapon takes the form of a specialized yo-yo. While not the most intimidating at first glance, this plaything packs quite a punch. It can be used as a whip, a flail, a grappling hook, a rope, a projectile, and even a shield if he spins it fast enough. The disk is also much heavier and more durable than it's small size would suggest, yet light enough to where Thomas can still swing it around with ease.

One other notable feature about Thomas' yo-yo is that the disk generates electricity as it spins. When fully charged, Thomas can trigger it's release using the ring connect, delivering a nasty shock to his opponents upon contact.

Equipment
As is the case with all Conductors, Thomas' supply of Gold Dust is stored within a special brass whistle, hence them sometimes being called "whistleblowers". These whistles serve as the conduit through which they can activate their magic. Each whistle will sound slightly different depending on it's owner, and they are also near indestructible.
Civilian
As far as regular abilities go, Thomas is fairly athletic and displays an aptitude for physical activities. Not does he excel at both action and team sports, he also quite enjoys dancing and gymnastics. His normal stamina is also impressive, as he can perform physically intense activities (such as running and biking), for long periods of time without wearing himself out. He likes trying new things, and actively participates in many extracurricular activities (so many, in fact, that he often takes on too many commitments at once), simply because he gets excited about the possibilities. As a result, he may be considered a "jack of all trades, master of none".

Biography

Thomas Billinton was born on the Island of Sodor on New Years Day, when his mother unexpectedly went into labor whilst on a train bound for Elsbridge. She ended up giving birth in the coach she and her husband were riding in, and afterwards, they decided to name their newborn son after the driver of their train. Following this, the family decided to permanently relocate to Sodor, where they would settle down in the town of Tidmouth.

Thomas' early life was carefree and comfortable. His father worked at the Lower Knapford Oil Depot, where he worked tirelessly to provide for his family. Eventually, they were able to buy a house near Sodor's Main Line, and little Thomas (or Tommy, as his parents often called him), would regularly play along the trackside. With two loving parents in a peaceful land, Thomas spent the first ten years of his life happier and more content than he would be for a long time thereafter.

One day, Thomas' father left for work and never came back. He was a good and dutiful man, and his sudden disappearance caused the family a great deal of alarm. After months of fruitless searching, and no clues turning up as to his wherabouts, the case went cold and he was presumed dead. The compounding stress and emotional turmoil eventually caused Thomas' mother to suffer a severe mental breakdown, finding it traumatic to even look at her son's face because he looked so much like his father. This culminated in her attacking Thomas with a rock, leaving him with a large scar across his face. Afterwards, she was admitted to a psychiatric ward, and Thomas moved in with his aunts Annie and Clarabelle, who became his legal guardians.

Relationships

Percy

Best Friend

For as long as Thomas and Percy have known each other, it’s been the two of them against the world. While they do tease each other quite a bit, their close bond is obvious to everyone they meet. Not only is Thomas very affectionate towards Percy, but he is also fiercely protective of him (a trait that has gotten him in trouble more than a few times). It is rare for the two of them to argue, but even when they do, they know they will always have each others’ backs.

James

coworker, friend

Thomas considers James to be a good friend. While he does get annoyed by James’ vanity and hotheadedness, he also knows that he has a good heart underneath it all. Their frequent bickering and playful banter is a result of their almost sibling-like friendship. They enjoy gossiping together and causing mischief, seeming to bring out both the best and worst of one another. Even though James can sometimes get carried away with his teasing, he and Thomas maintain a close relationship.

Gordon

coworker

While Thomas and Gordon are cordial for the most part, their working relationship is somewhat tumultuous. Thomas does not take kindly to Gordon constantly barking orders at him, nor does he appreciate the way he talks down to his subordinates and takes other’s help for granted. Despite this, however, Thomas does hold a great deal of respect for Gordon. Not that he would ever admit it, of course.

Henry

coworker

Thomas and Henry don’t interact much outside of work, but they get on well enough. Henry doesn’t belittle him in the same way Gordon does, nor does he try to coddle him like Edward. Henry’s leisurely pace does occasionally get on Thomas’ nerves, but this is more a result of his own impatience than anything else. Overall, Thomas respects and appreciates Henry, and does his best to help him when he can.

Edward

coworker

Thomas and Edward get along very well. In many ways, Edward acts as a sort of mentor for Thomas. His remarkable patience and unmatched reliability has gotten Thomas out of trouble more times than he can count. However, his overbearing tendencies do cause some friction between them, as Thomas hates being treated like a child. Still, there is comfort in knowing that he can depend on Edward when he needs to.

Rosie

friend

While it is difficult to discern Thomas’ true feelings for Rosie, it is clear that he considers her a good friend. He respects her positive and hardworking attitude, and doesn’t tolerate anyone messing with her. Her cheery and upbeat personality makes her fun to be around, and this often leads to Thomas roping her into his cheeky antics. Rosie doesn’t seem to mind, though.
