Profile

Personality

xUkSUgB.png

Henry is a determined, albeit anxious person. While not unkind, he is fretful and high-strung, with his fluctuating moods making him notoriously difficult to read. However, he is also diligent, productive, and organized. His attention to detail is second to none, and he prefers to take his time when performing tasks in order to ensure they're done properly (even if this often comes at the cost of efficiency). Though his frequent bouts of illness may hinder his performance, he has an inborn need to be seen as reliable, and refuses to let his physical condition stop him from completing his work. While his dedication is impressive, it also means that he has a bad habit of pushing himself too far.

Henry's moodiness belies a festering dissatisfaction and a terrible struggle with emotional complexities. Not only does he have a deeply ingrained predisposition to worry, but he also suffers from a woeful lack of confidence and a warped self-image. As a result, he can be cynical, dependent, and withdrawn. However, Henry is a soft, kind, and respectful person at heart. He yearns to connect with others, yet his fear of rejection prevents him from opening up. He may not be the easiest to get close to, but those who do manage to stick it out will find in him an honest, supportive, and doting companion.

While reserved, Henry has always been more misanthropic than malicious. Despite everything he is grappling with, he tries very hard to be a good person, and is steadily working to overcome his struggles and better himself. With the help and support of his friends, he has learned what friendship, understanding, kindness, and love feels like. He wishes to return all of the care he has been shown in kind, and show everyone who believes in him that their faith is not misplaced.

Powers & Abilities

A Conductor’s special abilities take the form of both magical powers (such as teleportation and weapon summoning) and physical enhancements (such as herculean strength and superhuman speed). These abilities, whether they are magical in nature or not, can only be used as long as the Conductor has a sufficient supply of Gold Dust, which is stored in special whistles.

Enhancements
Through the use of Gold Dust, Henry's physical abilities are enhanced to a near superhuman degree. In this powered-up (or "Sparkling") state, he enjoys a significant boost in strength, speed, and durability. While he still experiences the physical limitations that come with his poor health, he can still be quite the formiddable foe, and he is more than capable of holding his own in a fight if needed.
Magic
In addition to their physical enhancements, Conductors also gain an assortment of magical abilities. When needed, they can call upon their Gold Dust to take the form of a magical weapon for use in combat. Each weapon is unique to the user, and is usually reflective of their personality in some way. Depending on the weapon, a Conductor may even be able to summon multiple of them at once.

Conductors also gain the ability to magically teleport from place to another, by dispersing their physical forms to collect again and reform in a new location. While this is by far the the fastest way to get to a desired location, doing so requires a considerable amount of Gold Dust, so it is generally used sparingly. It also notoriously easy to accidentally teleport to the wrong location if one is unable to fully concentrate on where they want to go.

Weapon
Henry's signature weapon takes the form of a large recurve bow that fires arrows made of magical energy, which are summoned when the bowstring is drawn back. Because the arrows themselves are composed of magic, they can be made to take on a variety of effects depending on the situation. For example, they can be made to split into multiple, smaller arrows that can attack multiple targets simultaneously or overwhelm one single target. They can also explode in midair, dispersing smaller arrows in multiple directions from the center. More often than not, Henry will use his arrows to knock out or otherwise incapacitate an opponent, rather than physically harm them.

Equipment
As is the case with all Conductors, Henry's supply of Gold Dust is stored within a special brass whistle, hence them sometimes being called "whistleblowers". These whistles serve as the conduit through which they can activate their magic. Each whistle will sound slightly different depending on it's owner, and they are also near indestructible.
Civilian
Outside of his Conductor abilities, Henry is an avid nature lover with a particular fondness for fishing and gardening. He will frequently put his green thumb to use by growing his own herbs and vegetables, which he uses in his many meat-free recipes. He also enjoys sustainable foraging, and can identify local wildlife with ease.

Biography

Henry was born and raised in Wellsworth, a pleasant seaside town on Sodor known for it's picturesque scenery and pure, bracing breezes. His father was a fisherman, and his mother was a live-in maid for a wealthy family. A frail and sickly child, Henry spent much of his childhood bedridden, and what little travelling he did normally consisted of doctors visits and trips to various hospitals. This isolation made it difficult for him to form any meaningful friendships with other children his age, leading him to become increasingly reserved and closed-off.

When Henry was at last healthy enough to start attending school, his physical appearance and lackluster people skills made him the target of frequent bullying. Most of his attempts to connect with his peers were met with resistance, if not outright derision. This would unfortunately lead him to develop some antisocial tendencies that would persist well into his teenage years. Eventually, he gave up on trying to make friends altogether, and instead found solace nature.

In order to make up for lost time, Henry resolved to spend as much time as possible outdoors. He would frequently accompany his father to work and help him catch fish, which the two of them would then take to the market to sell. However, most of his free time was spent wandering the woods on the outskirts of town. He would spend hours studying the local flora and fauna, and would even forage some edible wild plants to bring home. He spent so much time here, in fact, that some of the locals started calling the area "Henry's Forest".

Relationships

Thomas

Coworker

While Henry sometimes has trouble keeping up with Thomas' boundless energy, he can't help but appreciate the other's zest for life and willingness to try new things. Part of him might even be slightly envious of Thomas' youthful vigor, though he would never say as much. While Thomas' impatience and Henry's leisurely pace do occasionally put the two of them at odds, they get along well overall.

Percy

coworker, friend

Henry and Percy get along quite well. While at first glance, the two of them don't seem to have much in common, they still manage to find comfort in each other's company. Henry appreciates Percy's hard work, and unlike Thomas, Percy is more willing to take things slow so Henry doesn't feel rushed. There seems to be an unspoken understanding between the two, as both experience similar struggles.

James

coworker

While Henry and James have an amiable relationship for the most part, the two of them do seem to butt heads more than anyone else. There are times where Henry finds James truly insufferable, especially when he starts boasting about his looks. James also isn't above poking fun at Henry's insecurities, though he does take care not to cross a line.

Gordon

friend

Henry and Gordon have a complicated history. While they've known each other since childhood, it wasn't until they were both teenagers that they truly became friends. Regardless, Henry considers Gordon to be his first real friend, and values his opinion a great deal. While Henry does wish that Gordon would confide in him more, he understands that he values his privacy.

Edward

coworker, friend

Henry and Edward are kindred spirits in more ways than one. They both share a fondness for nature, and appreciate the simple things in life. Edward listens to Henry's struggles without judgement, and his more calm and easygoing demeanor helps bring Henry back down to earth whenever he starts working himself into a tizzy.
