Sergei Finch is a spirited young hunter of the Fifth Fleet, well known for his reckless and empty-headed nature. Because of this, not that many people take him seriously, including himself.

Appearance

Sergei sports a head of fluffy blond hair that he keeps swept to the side. He has large teal eyes set deep on a narrow face, and a very prominently crooked nose that can almost be regarded as his trademark feature. Though what most people are intrigued about is the battle paint that he adorns himself in, which is a deep orange-ish red and can be seen covering his eyes, neck, torso and arms. The marks are triangular and sharp in nature, and are painted intentionally to resemble the markings of his inner-self, the Seregios. Each mark has a different meaning based on it's design and placement, and he can be seen wearing different patterns depending on certain conditions.

Generally, Sergei is quite tall, and he takes pride in that fact. He has a very masculine figure, granted to him by his especially wide rib cage and narrow hips. He does his best to take care of his body and train hard, and it has resulted in him being a healthy and fit guy with muscles to show for it. He's a little too lax about his state of dress, and can often be seen shirtless because of this, including situations in which it would not be that appropriate.

Personality

Sergei is just about the loudest and strangest fruitcake to ever step foot into Astera. He doesn't take life all that seriously, and it shows. He's obnoxious and rambunctious, and far too reckless, putting himself into far more trouble than he should. His stupidity often gets the best of him, and it usually ends in him getting injured. But underneath the goof and the idiot, he's a genuine guy who has an insane amount of love to give. He cares deeply for his friends, and even deeper for his family or those he considers as much. He longs to be a dependable man that's strong enough to protect the people he cares about, and a man who's easygoing enough to be someone people can relax around. When he gives his love, he gives it with everything he's got.

At the same time, he's also a walking bag of emotions. He's prone to crying at even the simplest things. His family in particular he holds tightly in his heart, and the mere mention of them can start the waterworks, as he misses them all a lot. He can get easily angered or provoked, but it's usually only because his feelings have been hurt a bit or because he feels the need to defend a friend.

In general, he's quite the exciting person to be around, but of course he has his doubts and insecurities, too. He just wants to have a good time, whether or not you're gonna be along for the ride.

History

Sergei was born near the blazing desert of Val Habar to parents Quintus and Rosanne Finch. Growing up was a wonderful experience for him, as he was constantly surrounded by a big and loving family who were always teaching him the values of what it means to be a good man, and what it means to be a member of the Finch clan. Though there were always moments of hardship concerning the occasional scarcity of food, or the passing of family members, Sergei loved just about every bit of growing up.

The Finch family was not a family of hunters by any means, they were a mixed bunch of occupations for sure, but out of the hundreds of Finches living together, you could count on one hand the amount of hunters. Sergei's uncle was among those few, and there were few in the world that Sergei looked up to more than him. To say that his uncle was an inspiration to him would be an understatement, he was his hero. Sergei adored all of the stories that he would tell about his adventures out in the world, and Sergei wanted every single part of it. He begged his uncle to take him as an apprentice, and soon enough he found himself training to become a hunter. It was a lot harder work than he expected, but he stuck to it and tried his best. His family supported his dream, and they helped him become stronger in all the little ways that they could. When he was old enough, he joined the Hunters' Guild of Val Habar, and was on his way to becoming the best he could be.

But eventually, Sergei got word that his uncle went missing, and he set it upon himself to find him. He searched everywhere that he could for weeks before he returned home one day to the news that a hunter of his uncle's description had been found dead near The Great Desert. Sergei was devastated, and he refused to hunt for an entire year after that. When he was able to come to his senses and hunt again, he was noticeably worse. His period of mourning had been so intense that he never trained or kept his skills sharp, and he lost much of what he had learned. It took a lot of effort to try and climb back up, but the truth of the matter was that he just wasn't the same hunter that he used to be.

Years passed, and Sergei caught wind of the opportunity to go to the New World as a member of the Fifth Fleet. When he heard this, he felt that same excitement for hunting that he had felt so long ago when his uncle told him stories. The idea of the New World reignited his fire for hunting, and he spontaneously declared to his family that he would go to the academy and try to make it into the Fifth Fleet. They were shocked at first, but were fully supportive of his decision when they could see that this was something he truly needed to do.

He made it as a member of the Fifth Fleet by the skin of his teeth, but he made it. Reignited and excited for this new adventure, Sergei was ready to finally become the kind of hunter that would make his uncle proud.

Kiyoshi
[Best friend] Sergei first met Kiyoshi in the academy when they were both training to be members of the Fifth Fleet. Sergei found Kiyoshi to be incredibly strange and fascinating, and Kiyoshi saw Sergei as one of the few trainees that wasn't incredibly intimidating. They talked a lot, and when Sergei accidentally caught a glimpse of Kiyoshi's face under his mask one day in the baths, it basically sealed their fate as friends. Even though they've only known each other for a few years now, they're almost inseparable. Two halves of one idiot, some say.

Lorelai
[Close friend] Sergei was assigned the unfortunate task of giving Lorelai the tour of Astera when she arrived on boat one day. She was a new addition to the Fifth Fleet, and it turned out she would be rooming with Sergei and Kiyoshi as well. Sergei was quite skeptical of her at first, finding her awkward and standoffish, but once she warmed up to him she turned out to be a lot more fun and kind than he expected. Though Lorelai often has to school him for his self-destructive and reckless habits, they have a pretty tight relationship.

Kronos
[Friend] Kronos and Sergei aren't exactly the healthiest pair of friends. They tend to encourage each other's worst qualities, and become disaster masters when put together. Sergei often seeks out Kronos' unreliable dating advice, and Kronos can rile Sergei up with ease when on the topic of women or hunting. Though Kronos does view Sergei as a bit of a lesser being, they still have a strong and hearty relationship, as strange as it may get at times.
