Hickorystar is wise and calm, a personified 'gentle giant.' However, when calm and reasonable approaches prove ineffective to discipline, he is willing to use his towering, Maine Coon size to intimidate. He will then later go back and apologize for acting in such a manner, as he believes that negative reinforcement does not always get the intended results. Hickorystar is a natural listener, often the reason why he is sought for advice and for working social problems out. This sort of relationship within the clan has earned him the leader position, as there was a general level of respect coming from each cat. Despite his popularity within the clan, Hickorystar had always been very reserved about his own personal affairs, particularly with Twigflower, whom he had been in love with since they were young warriors. Twigflower is a very chatty cat, however, and so eventually their secret became not-so-secret.

Character
Early Life
From a young age, Hickorykit learned to despise the use of intimidation and punishment. his father, being a Maine Coon, willingly used his superior size and strength to conform his kits to his own ideals. Hickorykit never got along with his father, being much more passive than he. As a kit he was often called lazy and disobedient for liking to take naps and lie on cool rocks.
Apprenticeship
Becoming an apprentice was wonderful. Hickorypaw could finally leave the nursery and be under the power of another cat. His mentor, Mapledream, was a young warrior. However, she knew the importance of kind and gentle guiding, a very different method of teaching that was looked down upon by the older generation. Under her guidance, Hickorypaw flourished. The last few moons of his apprenticeship was when Hickorypaw became sweet towards Twigpaw, her chattiness taking up his quiet spaces in the conversation. But unlike other cats, she instinctively knew when to be quiet and become the listener, to let him speak.
Warrior to deputy
Hickorybranch was an incredibly young warrior by most standards when be became deputy. The previous deputy, who had been around since their previous leader had been named, finally was too old and retired. Out of the many choices, Hickorybranch was the easiest to select, and the youngest of the eligible. Hickorystar was a natural, commanding and certain of what needed to be done. Plus, he was one of the few that were happy to take morning patrol if it meant he could have an afternoon nap.
Leadership
The previous leader, whose last lives were taken from elderly sickness, finally passed on his title to Hickorybranch. There was much celebration for Hickorystar's return from his ceremony. As for his deputy, there was only one choice: Torrentclaw. Soon after, his first kit was born: Puzzlekit who later is known as Puzzlepatch. later down the line still, his second and final litter was born, with Quailheart, Marshfire, and Pricklesplash, all of whom he was extremely proud to have been able to grant his kits their warrior names.
Sorrelstreak
[ Sister ] Hickorystar was never best friends with his sister like many sibling pairs were, they were total oppsites. Their different ways of thinking and handling decisions made conversation difficult.
Twigflower
[ Mate ] Twigflower really is Hickorystar's other half; she is fiery and talkative to counteract his cool and quiet personality.
Puzzlepatch
[ Son ] While he takes after his father in looks, Puzzlepatch is a fairly even mix between his two parents. Confidant and cool, romantic and passionate.
Marshfire
[ Son ] Unlike his eldest brother Puzzlepatch, Marshfire seemed to not take after his mother at all, seeming introverted and shy. However; his courage and spirit for life was inward instead of outward. After bravely leading the fear-frozen apprentices to safety during a terrible forest fire, he was granted the warrior suffix: 'Fire.'
Pricklesplash
[ Daughter ] Witty and mischevious, Pricklesplash often capitalizes on her passed down gene of her mother's silver tongue, Pricklesplash can get away with cheekiness and kit-like practical jokes that many would not dare to do.
Quailheart
[ Daughter ] Quailheart: the clan gossiper. She can't keep a secret, has zero poker face, and says the first thing that comes to her mind. But, there's also Quailheart: her father's daughter. When around him, especially when she was younger, Quailheart almost seems to sober up and calm down, the only time she'd ever be patient enough to watch the sun slowly rise.
Maplepaw
[ Grand-Daughter ] Maplepaw reveres Hickorystar, looking up to her grandfather in the utmost of respect. Hickorystar finds it amusing, but is happy to share his years of wisdom with her.
Tawnypaw
[ Grand-Daughter ] While Hickorystar has made his attempts to connect with Tawnypaw, the rambunctious she-cat (unlike her sister) tires easily of stories and quiet conversations at early hours (too early, if you ask her.)
