Personality
It is almost impossible to tell what Cooper is feeling at any given moment. He keeps his face perfectly neutral - mouth a thin line, eyebrows neither furrowed nor raised, voice even and nearly toneless, even his over-large ears only swivel when he’s trying to hear something. Because of this, people are understandably wary around him. He could be plotting murder at any moment, and no one could tell.
One of the few things that actually manages to disrupt Cooper’s stoicism is when his carefully constructed order is disturbed. Anywhere from the careful arrangement of pens in his jar to just leaving a book out randomly. He is a huge neat freak and perfectionist, and gets extremely cross when these things are disturbed.
Cooper is not very good at expressing his emotions. In fact, he has a tendency to bottle them up until they become an issue. This is because he’s rather ashamed to express his emotions in most contexts, and it takes a huge amount of trust for him to expose anything more than surface level irritation to anyone else.
Everyone respects Cooper. He’s comfortable with being in authority - not because he desires power, but because he wants to make sure things are going well. He does care about people, after all. He spends a lot of time working to make sure things run smoothly for everyone, and is always willing to listen to people’s concerns.
Cooper is an extremely devoted person. He puts a lot of energy into the things he cares about, often for little or no reward other than his own accomplishments. Of course, when things do give back to him, he’s extremely pleased and will throw even more effort into whatever it is. He’s fine with that, of course.
Design Notes
- Cooper is able to shift into the ringox feral form.
- When Cooper is angry, his ring becomes completely made out of fire.
- Cooper’s tail is a dragon/unicorn hybrid, so there’s a couple of spikes at the base of the tail.
- Even though Cooper is in his 50s, he’s still quite young in ringox years. He looks like an exhausted 20-something year old.
- Cooper is a very masculine presenting woman, so he tends to wear semi-formal mens wear. He’s particularly fond of vests and bowties.
Trivia
- Cooper is the Head Archivist of the Organization. He is in charge of making sure all their records are in order and findable. Because the Organization’s records are hosted in the restricted section of the Parthenon Archives, he’s also the Head Archivist of the Parthenon Archives. This makes for a convenient explanation of his otherwise secret job.
- Cooper is autistic. This manifests itself as a hypersensitivity to various stimuli (especially sound because of his massive ears), some difficulty in social interactions, and a particular fondness for routine. He also stims quite a bit with the pens he has on his desk, among other things.
- Cooper has a massive library within his own house. It’s as well organized as the Parthenon Archives.
- Although Cooper would adore a cat, he doesn’t have the time to care for another being. He hopes that someday soon the tides will change and he’ll be able to own a cat.
- Cooper is a butch lesbian and he adores his femme, Reina.
- Cooper is not particularly magical, although he does have a decent amount of power thanks to his progenitor parentage. Mostly, he uses a “find things” spell because people are awful at putting things away.
- Because of Cooper’s overly large ears, he is extremely sensitive to noise.
History
Cooper was born to Delilah and the progenitor Amaryllis during one breeding season. Because neither of them were able to raise the kid, they ended up putting Cooper up for adoption. Although it took a couple of years, he was adopted by Dinah and Lee, a sweet lesbian couple who wanted to adopt and care for as many kids as they could.
They were good parents. They spent a lot of time building up their children and encouraging their interests. Cooper has no complaints about his childhood. In fact, he appreciates his family for learning how he functioned and working with him.
Cooper never meant to get involved with the Organization. He went to college to study archiving and had every intention of being an archivist in some nice museum somewhere. However, he ended up getting talent-scouted by Galen, who offered him a much higher rate than anywhere else so of course he took the job.
He worked his way up the ranks fairly quickly. After all, he was good at what he did and he commanded respect. However, Cooper didn’t care for the power aspect of it. Rather, he just wanted to make sure everything was organized so his head didn’t explode while trying to find something important.
Cooper and Reina initially had a very professional relationship. Reina would send him files and borrow others, and he’d make sure everything was filed appropriately. It wasn’t until they actually met at some party that the two made a connection.
Although their romance was slow (neither of them were good at being vulnerable and having emotions), it slowly became deep and loving until they eventually ended up getting married. Sure, it may have taken a few years, but they have an exceptionally solid relationship now.

Cooper and Reina are the epitome of the saying “opposites attract.” Where Reina is chaotic, Cooper is orderly. Where Reina is impatient, Cooper is patient. The two of them together create a balance of their two extremes. Reina is quite glad to be married to Cooper. He’s been absolutely wonderful at breaking her out of her shell. Nowadays they live a happy domestic life, doing research together and generally having a good time.
Even though Cooper isn’t much like his mom, he’s grateful for everything that she’s done for him. She’s always available in case he ever needs her help (and he’s asked her to help him deal with some particularly unpleasant people before). Cooper is also amazed at how good she is with kids - he’s not sure if he’ll ever compare.
Cooper feels like he can be emotionally vulnerable around Dinah, which is rare and difficult for him considering he doesn’t understand his emotions half the time and doesn’t feel safe expressing them to anyone else the other half. She’s always been good at giving him a space to just exist without pretending to be someone else.
Cooper admittedly hasn’t been the best at keeping up relationships with his brother, but he can appreciate how much Hari has accomplished. They don’t talk often, but when they do Cooper is fine to listen to what his brother has been up to. He doesn’t feel the need to talk about himself.
Cooper is rather distant from Nya through no fault of either of them. They’ve simply had different life paths and do vastly different things with their lives. She seems to understand whenever he gets overstimulated by loud family parties though, and is usually the one to offer an escape route.
Cooper would kill someone if it protected this sweet little thing. Zelda is amazing! Cooper enjoys watching her paint, it’s so soothing. She’s very quiet about it, too, so he doesn’t have to worry about there being annoying sounds to make him want to tear his ears off. She seems to like him as well.
To be honest, Cooper has only really barely heard of his bio mother. He frankly doesn’t care if he meets her or not, he has all the moms he needs thank you very much. People at the Shrine Between Realms have compared him to her, and he really doesn’t care.
Cooper can’t help but feel intimidated by his progenitor parent. He knows that he should have some affection - Amaryllis is a progenitor and his parent - but he can’t help but feel overwhelmed in their presence. They’re just…. too much.
There’s something about Bit that makes him so easy to unwind near. Cooper doesn’t know what it is, but he’s actually been able to be rather silly around him. Admittedly, Cooper doesn’t spend too much time near him due to conflicting work schedules. Oh well.
Cooper respects Galen quite a bit for all that they do. However, he doesn’t feel remotely subservient to them at all, unlike others in the Organization. In fact, Cooper is one of Galen’s most outspoken critics (although not in a loud way). Galen is always willing to listen to Cooper’s critiques, and they do work fairly well together.
Although Angelique is sweet, Cooper has trouble understanding just how she manages to do things so unpredictably. He is fond of her though, for the simple reason that she and Reina are good friends. He likes it when Angelique and Reina hang out, and likes it even more when he doesn’t have to figure out what they’re actually doing in the labs.
They may work in completely different departments and have different opinions on Galen, but Cooper and Amera actually like each other and are close friends. Plus, people have similar views on them (although Cooper might be more well liked). Regardless, Cooper enjoys Amera’s company and has her over for dinner occasionally.
Miriam is elusive and unnerving, but Cooper really doesn’t care. He doesn’t see much of her, and all she does do is file things correctly. Thank goodness for people who file things correctly!
Cooper doesn’t pay too much attention to their captive. He does think it’s silly that Noona’s a prisoner when she’d be much more valuable being treated as a person. What a strange thing for the Organization to do, have a person around that doesn’t belong.
