Background

When she was born to her parents, October and Maarav, Essaerae already had two older brothers, Ahearn and Zakai. October and Maarav owned an iron forge, being the most popular weapon creators in their small elf town and in the surrounding areas. Essaerae watched her brothers grow up and help their parents work in the forge. As Essaerae got older, being a female, she was thought to be too dainty to be a weapons' craftsmen by her family, as they believed in girls were to stay in their husband's shadows, as October did with Maarav. She spent her time while being jealous of Ahearn and Zakai. At night, she would sneak into their shop and forge her own weapons, her brothers and father questioning where the weapons they didn't remember making selling for so much. This made Essaerae happy, even if she couldn't tell them that it was her. A couple years after Essaerae's own birth, her parents had another child, a boy they named Yuzuru. A few years later, they had another boy, naming him Halill.

Yuzuru and Halill got to join Ahearn, Zakai and Maarav in the forge as they got older. Essaerae went to school with her brothers, having a different role to play in life. One that from an early age, she wanted to change. Essaerae continued to be taught by October how to be a lady.  She spent her time being jealous of all her brothers, she didn't have really any friends to call her own as her brothers did, she just had acquaintances to talk to. She often played with her brothers' and their friends. At night, she would sneak into their shop and forge her own weapons, her brothers and father questioning where the weapons they didn't remember making selling for so much. This made Essaerae happy, even if she couldn't tell them that it was her. She eventually let it slip that she was creating the weapons they didn't remember creating. Halill and Yuzuru looked up to their older sister suddenly but her parents were pissed and her older brothers began to ignore her. Essaerae was cut a piece by her mother and father, sending her off to an all female boarding school to attempt straighten her out.

Essaerae learned nothing in Bitterwood Academy in Kaylik for the next few years. It was a school for girls of all races that specialized on teaching girls how to be proper women. They had a forge as well, for the guards protecting the school, and she became acquainted with the 25 year old albino tiefling forge-master, Baako Skritz. Baako saw her love for forging weapons, and she taught him a thing or two about forging. After her middle school years of being best friends with a forge master and no females, Essaerae made a plan to run from Bitterwood so she could be free. A few months later, she took one of Baako's swords and ran away from the school and cutting her hair to not be recognized without so much as taking her belongings. She ran until she couldn't run anymore, unsure of what to do. News of her betrayal went to her family, and her parents disowned her, believing that a girl who wanted to act like a boy was utterly useless in elven society.

She walked and fought beasts until she found herself in the mountains, in an elven kingdom called Arün. She quickly noticed that Arün had no gender stereotypes when it came to the citizens of the town. She collected extra money from doing random deeds and opened her own forge and weapon shop in the city. Essaerae became quickly well liked in Arün to the point where her skills were noticed by the royal family. The royals took a liking to her skills and used her as their personal weapon master. She began to fall in love with the likes of the eldest prince of Arün, Laverne. She believed him to be handsome, but the prince himself being spoiled and quite busy with royal duties didn't seem to notice her. His parents would request that she make wooden bows for the prince when his birthday rolled around every year. She unfortunately felt like she was falling in love with someone she didn't know anything about, someone who would never notice her. She rarely got to speak to the prince directly, yet she saw him often in the royal household. Essaerae eventually realized it was probably not the best idea to continue playing with a live wire like the prince and quietly went back to her place as the weapons' master.

As time went on, she noticed that Arün had a gladiator arena. She concocted a plan to join the arena in hopes to gain the prince's favor.  It was difficult to handle both the arena battles and her forge work but she kept at it. She did receive some backlash from the elves of the kingdom in the terms of it was unusual for a female to be interested in that sort of thing in general. Essaerae forged her own weapons to fight with as well as her full-plate armor. Some of the elves became entranced by her armor and she expanded her business, being able to provide armor for the arena as well. Unfortunately, she still didn't seem to have Laverne's attention. It wasn't much of a surprise as he rarely left his dwelling, and if he did, he was well guarded and unapproachable. As she moved up the ranks in the gladiator arena fighting other people and dragons, she rightfully earned the title of "The Champion of Arün". The elves who had once disliked her for her taste in the arena now adored her as a fighter. She enjoyed the attention, receiving compliments, gifts and on the rare occasion dates. Essaerae opted to balance her life out and coasted on the easiness of it over time.

Soon, a scandal broke out within the royal family, that a princess had been born and was not the queen's child. Later, the king and queen divorced, leaving the kingdom without a queen. Essaerae saw the heartbreak in Prince Laverne and Prince Jericho's eyes. A few years passed and Laverne's father passed away in an attack on Arün from the dragon born race. Afterwards, Prince Laverne laid bedridden and comatose, confined within the walls of the castle for eight months. Essaerae wondered if she would ever set eyes on his beautiful face again. In that time, Arün's throne sat empty. After he woke up, he was almost immediately crowned and Essaerae sighed in relief. It's been five years, she's still trying to get King Laverne now to notice her, she wants a chance like most of the females in the kingdom but for now she's willing to continue working as the royal's select iron worker.
