During the earliest attempts of recorded astrological ventures, the Plystrians used to dock their tails in order to reduce their total weight by roughly 25%. This proved vital as minimising the weight meant more important supplies and fuel could be safely stored for the missions.
It isn't uncommon to see Modern Plystrian Astronauts docking their own tails still, however, this is considered more of a sign of respect then it is an actual requirement to travel, thanks to multiple technological developments throughout their Astrological History.
