Connie was sent to the United States by his parents when he was ten in the hopes of saving his life.
Not long after, both his parents were executed on suspicion of being traitors.
He still wears dog-tags with his parents names and information on them.

Hungry and barely able to understand English, he stumbled into the tenement building Luke and Chuck had outfitted to be home to the Golden Colubrids.
Fry took one look at him and started cooking.
Luke speaks fluent Russian thanks to his mother Natalia and was able to translate for Connie. He started to teach him the basics of English.

He can speak it well enough now, but can still struggle with certain words and grammar.
Mousie has been helping him improve his reading and writing skills, while Luke and Chuck occasionally help him to find the word he's looking for.

Connie hates communism with a firey passion, he blames it for the death of his parents and will attack you without so much as a growl if you so much as SUGGEST he might be a communist spy. On the other hand, he does find the nickname Chuck gave him amusing.
He's a chemistry genius, and snags any chem. books he can find in the hopes of learning more on the subject. This is both useful and terrifying as he makes bombs for Luke and crew.

Connie is doggedly loyal to the Colubrid family and will do anything to help them out, from comforting the younger kids who've just lost it all, to helping Fry keep the place clean, to even mugging someone who attacked one of the family.
You do not hurt the Golden Colubrids and get away with it so long as Connie is around.
