Fry had pretty much accepted by the time he was seven that no one was going to adopt him. He was practically mute and a bit dull, but he figured he'd have better chances on the streets.
He grabbed the two things he owned, a cast iron skillet and a thick flannel coat, and took off that night.
The abandoned tenement building he snuck into that night was in okay shape, but the next morning he got the crap scared out of him by Chuck and Luke leaning over him.
He smacked Luke in the face with the skillet he'd brought along.
Of course, Chuck burst out into laughter and Luke started rubbing at his nose indignantly, but they quickly calmed down and befriended the quiet little orphan.

Six years later he hit a growth spurt and outgrew his nickname of "Small Fry", so Chuck dubbed him Frying Pan instead.

He kept living in the tenement building, then Luke brought up the idea of the Golden Colubrids and the biggest grin anyone had ever seen on Fry's face appeared.
Fry happily cooks for their family of misfits, and although he doesn't talk much he doesn't need to keep things in order. His main job is designating chores to the many members of the family
ranging from cleaning and repairing the building to helping one another with homework. Yeah, Homework. Fry has made it very clear any kids under his roof that can go to school will. 
He has a cutoff at 7th grade, but he will encourage them to keep going even though he won't force them too.
Alot of the kids have taken to calling him Ma' or Mother hen. Both are titles he happily accepts.
It doesn't matter if you are younger or older than Fry, you listen to him when he tells you to do something. Even if it is just on a sticky note addressed to you.

His flannel was left for him by his mother, his father not even knowing he existed until he was 14.
Immediately upon seeing Fry he squeaks and hugs him- He does look JUST like him afterall.
He loves his son, and Fry does adore his dad...
His mother... They barely find her before she dies of a drug overdose. And Fry's first meeting with her, is also his last.

Despite being a bit on the dull side he can do incredibly hard math problems and unit conversions in his head, and even harder ones if you just give him a pen and paper to work them out on.
