History

Swiftos was raised in a mostly abandoned academy in the middle of nowhere. The academy used to be a place to study dark magic specifically centuries ago, but was closed after an incident where a fumbled spell killed several students and the public Freaked Out since dark magic already had a sordid reputation as ~The Evil Magic~ (TM). And so, the academy became abandoned and was forgotten for A Long Time until it was eventually discovered again and over time became a secret safehold for studying and hoarding ancient and dangerous tomes that would otherwise be frowned upon by society.

ANYWAY, this was real rad for dark magic hermits who started living there in seclusion, which included Swiftos' parents who lived in that academy with a handful of others. However, his parents were not actually there to study beigningly like nerds and had actually infiltrated in order to steal some of those Forbidden Tomes for the eldritch cult they were apart of, which was going swell until they were eventually discovered and tried to murder an escape route because, wow, were those other mages Real Mad, whoops. That escape didn't quiiite work out and they were both killed with only their ally, Eyrophos, escaping alive. Unfortunately, this left the hermits all side-eyeing each other because, uh, the couple they just killed had also been living there with their three year old, Swiftos, and does anyone here know how to take care of babies. The five who decided to stay in the academy after all that debated dropping Swiftos off somewhere but ultimately decided to keep him in the academy and raise him, mostly out of guilt for orphaning him but also they had already been attached to him and he had been showing signs of being a dark mage just like his parents.

Since he had been so young at the time, Swiftos has no recollection of any of that or his parents in general. All he knows is that he's been in that academy all his life and his "professors" refuse to tell him why or how he got there. Despite their almost familial relationship, the professors treated him delicately and tried to discourage his feverish interest and growth in dark magic the best they could out of concern for how his studies seemed to be gravitating towards the exact same ones his parents had been into and his curiosity always seemed to get the best of him. Unfortunately, none of them actually like, explained their reservations, refusal to let him advance in his studies, or overbearing/overprotective actions so Swiftos was under the impression they were all looking down on him and thought he was a hopeless child and burden, which only made him more eager to prove himself.

Because all of his stats were thrown straight into intelligence with a zero in wisdom, Swiftos eventually made the wonderful decision of "well, maybe the professors will stop looking down on him if he masters some REALLY difficult magic." Which, of course, meant the Forbidden Dark Magic because of course it did. Predictably, this did not end well and he actually ended up siphoning the life out of all five of his professors in the academy and gaining their magic. This amount of power was too much for Swiftos' idiot teen body to bear so he's been slowly deteriorating physically from the strain and now he is desperately trying to find a cure before his body entirely crumbles away to the voids that have begun appearing underneath those cracks. And also maybe get that wisdom stat off the ground, that might be helpful.
