Sustenance

a being currently being contained in a secret space under an innocuous farm in central Drenthe. the being is one of love and nourishment. it has no single form, it often has several bodies at once. when it arrives, it will appear as a sort of uncanny “clone” of a random individual in the group it infiltrates. once it is integrated into the group, its energy will radiate to any individuals in its vicinity, relieving them of exhaustion and hunger. it is aware of this ability, and therefore mostly shows itself in places where a species is suffering a famine. as soon as the individuals it protects are able to stand on their own feet again, it departs.

after the dutch famine of 1945, sustenance did not depart. it accompanied a village of farmers, but as soon as it tried to depart, one family refused to let it leave. they claimed it as a family heirloom, as a god, and were driven mad by the megalomania of never requiring basic mortal needs ever again.
the sustenance isn’t meant to stay in the same place as long as it has, and in the past 90 years, it has been dying slowly. it no longer has the energy to divide itself among multiple beings like it’s supposed to. it is a collective of hundreds, now forced within a single body, feeding those that don’t truly need it. so here lies the being of care and compassion, driven mad by its sense of righteousness so horribly abused, and the yearning to again stretch what should be its many legs.
