Profile

Personality Traits: She’s passionate about stories and loves spewing them out to anyone who will listen. She doesn’t always understand exactly what they mean, but she loves trying to find the similarities between them and the situations she finds herself in. She’s good at parroting, and when people take what she says to heart she likes seeing what comes of it until she is pointed in the direction of as the person who caused chaos to ensue.

Ideals: She genuinely believes in the power of old stories told and inspiring others . There is a story in everything, and everything can become a story with a little bit of nudging. While she is more practiced in stories, she wants to create a song that her grandfather would have been proud of and that would separate her from the rest.

Bonds: She made her current instruments with the help of her grandfather, and he inspired her more than the stories she holds dear. This is one of the only constants with her. While she loves her family, she really wants to go out and explore without the constraints of their own ideals. However, she constantly finds she’s comparing herself to them anyways.

Flaws: Because of her tendencies to wander, she can be pretty unreliable and flighty. She can tell a good fairy tale and fudges details about things if she thinks it will benefit her. She’s a perfectionist and gets upset if something doesn’t come to her naturally.

From birth, Calliope was surrounded by music. It always seemed someone was strumming a lute or slamming a drum or blowing a woodwind. The music that filled her home and her ears gave her her own inspiration to pick up an instrument, but she was never really drawn to any that littered her home. It wasn't until her grandfather retired from his own traveling bard group that she actually had the chance to explore more.

Calliope's grandfather was more experienced with quieter instruments. The kinds that made small sounds and sweet notes. She thought they were beautiful, and she loved listening to his stories from his many travels. He helped her create some of the instruments that he'd played on his travels, and she set to work learning them the best she could.

As her grandfather got older and Calliope got more and more curious, she felt the need to set out as well. She never really got the chance, as she was the youngest of four children and mostly stayed at home to help her mother maintain the home. Her father worked in town, and he shared her mother's protective nature. It didn't help that her nearby uncle had run off recently, leaving a scrawled out note asking for some money and where it could be sent. She'd always thought he was funny.

She got her chance to explore when her siblings offered her a place in their own band; albeit small. They couldn't quite figure out how she'd fig in. She loved her siblings and the fact that they were offering, but she didn't particularly like their music. Neither did she like the increasing amount of fame they seemed to be having lately; she wanted to have her own story to tell and her own music to be heard. They were a bit upset, but overall they understood what she was getting at. She still went with them on their travels, though, trying to make her own mark on the world and chatting with other bards and their own experiences and others. And there were so many stories to be told in the kingdom.

So she traveled and caused trouble and explored herself. All the while she enjoyed the company of her siblings, but she was never truly content. She wanted to go off and create something new and big, and she was never going to do that if she repeated the same songs and stories over and over again. She wanted her creations to be perfect, but she couldn't decide the sound or the style she wanted. And she refused to play anything she's written in front of others until she knew she had it right.

Growing increasingly more desperate, she decided to follow in the footsteps of her uncle. She'd leave for Oasis. There wasn't a huge amount she knew about it, but she'd heard wild stories from other bards she'd spoken to, and it seemed like a great place to continue her journey. She sent letters to her uncle explaining her plan (and put a few coins in as well). While he didn't really reply, she at least hoped he'd read her letters that she was planning on visiting.

She also told the plan to her siblings. Having big ideals as well and simply loving the rebellious nature of it all, they decided to help. They were on their way to the port anyways, and if they could help their little sister have some fun, why not? So she left on a boat with hopes of different music and ideals and a way to explore the world the way she wanted to.
