Sometimes plans do not transfer smoothly from paper to real life... But that is why I am here, isn't it? To make sure that they do. If I win, I am a prodigy. If I lose, then I am crazy. But I'm confident in my ability to win here.

Eoin, 55 Minutes

Eoin Colfer (JP: オーエン・コルファー | Ōen Korufā) is an agent of Scotland Yard Skilled Crime Department, a subsect of The Order of the Clock Tower. He uses his special ability to spy on his targets and gather information on those he intends to track and potentially kill. He is a recognised child genius known for his detailed and meticulous strategical and planning skills.

Appearance

Eoin is a tall boy for his age, with a thin, bony body that, while healthy, is not very fit or muscular. He has very pale skin, so pasty and white it is often remarked to be like a vampire's, and thin but pretty facial features. His chin is very pointed, and he has a thin smile - also sometimes remarked to be vampiric, especially when he smirks. His hair is raven black, very soft, and reaches his chin in soft, wavy curls. Eoin chooses to style it with a left parting, and the fringe falls to one side over his head, with a little tuft of it hanging down over his forehead. Unusually, he has heterochromia, with his right eye a soft rose pink and his left a bright leaf green. Though it is barely noticeable, especially from a distance, his scleras are also slightly coloured as well. He has no noticeable scars on his body, and appears very clean and well kept for a boy his age. Almost too clean, because Eoin prides himself in his physical appearance.

On his body, Eoin wears a smart white shirt with a small collar, tied with a white ribbon around his neck, and buttoned up at the front. Over this he wears a dark greenish grey waistcoat with three buttons on the front, and the Blue Peter badge of Scotland Yard displayed on the right hand side of his chest. He has a black belt with a gold buckle that holds up his dark brown trousers. Eoin has brown suit shoes on his feet. Lastly, he has a short, emerald green robe, similar to the gowns worn by university graduates but shorter and tailored to his smaller body, that hangs down his front to his waist, and down his back to just by his knees.

Furthermore, Eoin is very rarely seen without one or both of his fairies, who are his ability, nearby to him. Holly short is the green fairy, with gingery orange hair and a coppery brown skin that has dark freckles over her cheeks and large pointed ears. Her hair is cropped short and swept in a long side fringe over her right hand side. She wears a tight green jumpsuit with patches of what appears to be body armour on her chest, waist, knees and elbows. She also has tiny black boots. Holly's eyes, both the irish and scleras, are bright green - corresponding with Eoin's green eye. Opal Koboi, on the other hand, is the pink fairy. Her hair is long and a chestnut brown colour that comes down almost the entire length of her body. It is dead straight with a full front fringe, and she has two pink diamonds in her hair that appear to be either horns or jewellery - no one can get close enough to tell. She also wears a bodysuit, this one in pink, with darker pink boots and body armour on her chest, and pink gloves. Her eyes are pink, to match Eoin's pink eye, and she has pale skin. Both fairies have bright wings that buzz akin to insects.

Personality

Eoin, despite his young age, is a highly intelligent, cunning and conniving individual who is well aware of his above-average intellect and takes full advantage of it. He knows he is smarter than his peers, and is extremely proud of it to the point of sounding obnoxiously smug about it when he speaks. He has no issue in telling people he feels superior to them, and does not think that it's a bad thing to feel or be proud of. Eoin is not malicious by nature, but he can be extremely petty to people who annoy him and will hatch extremely devious and complex revenge plans that no one will be able to predict coming until it is far far too late to stop them. He also does not appear to show much in the way of outward "regular" emotions that other people might look for. He comes across quite cold, especially as he talks in a very deadpan voice, and never appears to be happy or sad or anything like that. What he does do, however, is smile creepily whenever something goes his way. What he’s come to realise, is people are very quick to let him have his way when he acts this manipulative, and Eoin has perfected his “strange child” act so as to keep people from stopping him when he is doing what he wants. He also uses it to annoy his work colleagues.

Eoin also likes to think that he acts more mature than other children his age, thanks to his superior intellect. In truth, he can and does still exhibit childish behaviours and is prone to the occasional huffy tantrum at not being allowed to do as he wants. He finds the other members of Scotland Yard Skilled Crime Department to be insufferable, particularly Anthony Horowitz because of how competitive they both get when placed in the same room. Eoin is known for having a short temper, but tends to play the long game of getting revenge over starting immediate fights. This can lead to him being the instigator of long running prank wars between all the other members of Scotland Yard Skilled Crime Department. With enough provocation, he can be known to immediately lash out - mostly by setting his two fairies on those who cross him. This is very rare, however, as Eoin knows that he is at a combat disadvantage.

Both of Eoin’s fairies also have their own personalities that set them apart from their master. Holly is the more composed of the two, who does the majority of the talking and answering when it comes to the information that they’ve found. She tends to be more talkative and incredibly sarcastic, and tells a lot of bad jokes whenever she gets the chance to. Opal, on the other hand, is less interested in coherent conversation and often her ramblings descend into loud hissings and growls when she is passionate or angry about something they’ve found. The two bicker amongst each other over what they should and shouldn’t do - and both are incredibly easy to manipulate and bribe with food. They do not follow morals or social cues, and mostly do whatever they wish to unless Eoin tells them otherwise. They can get themselves into any nook and cranny, usually to look for more things to eat. Both bite when they feel threatened.

Ability

Kanji: ホリーショートとオパールコボイ

Romaji: Horīshōto to opārukoboi

English: Holly Short and Opal Koboi

Reference: The Artemis Fowl Series

Ability Classification: Familiar

Appearance: Eoin's ability manifests in the form of two physical familiars that are always present in some shape or form around him. The first is a pink fairy known as Opal Koboi. She has straight brown hair that is almost as long as her whole body with a full fringe, two pink diamond "horns" and pale pasty skin. She wears a tight pink bodysuit with pink gloves and boots and pink body armour on her chest. She has magenta eyes with pale pink scaleras and large pink wings. The other is Holly Short, a green fairy with a more coppery skin with brown freckles on her face and ears. She has gingery orange hair that is cropped short and in a side fringe over the right side of her face. Her eyes are emerald green with paler green scaleras. Her body suit is green, with darker green armour on her chest, waist, knees, elbows and shoulders. Holly has green wings. Both of them can change in size but will usually appear about 30cm tall and always be flying around Eoin.

Capability: Holly Short and Opal Koboi are both fully independent familiars that can be summoned and controlled by Eoin as he wishes. They possess independent thoughts, though these thoughts are always connected to Eoin's mind and he is able to communicate with them through his mind should he wish to. They are also both able to speak, to the point where many people wish that they couldn't. Eoin can shrink their sizes down so that they can be used to spy on people, and they both are able to attack people using sharpened teeth and nails. He rarely uses them for combat, however, as their strong memories and mind link with his thoughts make them more useful for espionage. If he needs to, he can see through their eyes with his. The green eye to look through Holly's vision, and the pink for Opal.

Limitations: Both Holly Short and Opal Koboi are constantly active, which can quickly become irritating as they demand attention quite often. They also tend to irritate others with their incessant need to eat any food (and sometimes non-foods) that they can get their hands on. Eoin is not able to control them aside from disciplining their behavior, they otherwise act totally independently of him and each other. They are also not the brightest of sparks, and whilst they can remember information they may remember useless stuff amongst what might actually be worthwhile to Eoin because they cannot determine what is and isn't what is needed.

Side Effects: They take up a lot of Eoin's energy when he is using them to spy, as it takes a lot of concentration for him to communicate with them via thinking rather than being able to speak to them. This can leave him incredibly tired if they have been gone for more than a few hours. They are also the cause of his heterochromia, as his vision is linked to them. It makes him quite light sensitive and if they are out for too long he can get headaches from eye strain.

Ultimate Form: Eoin's ability does not have an ultimate form that he knows of.

Background

Early Life

Eoin was born in Wexford, County Wexford, Ireland to extraordinarily wealthy parents. His father was the latest in a long running Irish criminal dynasty that could trace its origins back to the Norman Era. The family amassed an incredible fortune in all manner of fraudulent and underhand means, and the future of Eoin as the next head of their criminal empire was assured from his birth. Though authorities knew well of the family, and could have very easily amassed more than enough evidence to put all of them behind bars, they were well paid off in order to let the Colfers do whatever they so wished. Eoin's care was very distant from his parents, who were busy running operations, and he was mostly raised under the watch of his own personal bodyguard and several hired servants. All of these people were thoroughly vetted by the family and trained to protect the young heir. Interestingly, unlike previous members of the Colfer family, Eoin was born with heterochromia and had one pink eye and one green. His family thought it an interesting development, but thought nothing strange of it.

Thanks to excellent protection and his family's wealth, Eoin grew up rather spoiled and pampered. He could have anything he wished, and often he would choose to read books and learn to use the computers that were everywhere in the family household. Thus, he quickly picked up a lot of useful skills from a very young age that set him far ahead of others. Eoin was very quick to learn, and had an insatiable desire for knowledge and learning. Before he learned to read he would ask his bodyguard and butler to read to him, and once he learned (well before school age) he could not be stopped. Eoin read every book in the Colfer family's extensive library that he could - and would be constantly asking questions about it all as well. Some of his questions were too advanced for his staff, and would need to be passed on to Eoin's parents. But even this did not stop him, he had to know.

What his family couldn't answer, he turned to the internet for. By the time he was six, Eoin knew how to use computers to an advanced level to find the answers he needed. He was learning basic coding with the help of hackers his family requested to tutor him, and even they remarked on how much of a genius the young boy was becoming. Realising they had a son with an incredible intellect, Eoin's parents made the decision that he would be home tutored by people trusted by their family, so as to ensure he not only received a top notch education, but also to keep their genius son a secret from people who may be interested in stealing him away.

There was no doubt at all that being raised in such luxury and being consistently told he was a child genius the whole time would cause the power to go to Eoin's head a little. He became extremely confident and self-assured, even if most of the time he did not show much emotion aside from smugness. He was always amicable to his staff, who were at this point his only friends, but could be extremely petty and spiteful on the rare occasions he was denied his way. Eoin's bodyguard also noted that his charge was beginning to exhibit odd behaviours as well, and would report them accordingly to his boss (Eoin's father), in case they needed to take a look.

Imaginary Friends

From the age of ten, Eoin had started talking to himself. In reality he had always done so from when he was little, but back then it was just brushed off as childish imagination that he would grow out of. The concerning thing was, Eoin claimed to not really have an imagination as he preferred logic and facts to daydreams. He would explain that anything he said, to persons seen or not, was perfectly real and should be treated as such. Of course, when he was younger even that explanation had been brushed aside as childishness, but now Eoin was older it was becoming increasingly concerning. Tests were run, as his father suspected the onset of a mental illness and wanted his son to be medicated right away if that was the case, but they turned up nothing. They were all at a complete loss, and these "symptoms" continued.

Then, one afternoon, Eoin's bodyguard caught his charge talking to himself once again, and decided to finally confront him on the matter. He simply asked Eoin who he was talking to (thinking perhaps he could get something of use for the doctors to diagnose) and to his surprise the young boy was delighted to introduce him. His eyes glowed and from seemingly nowhere appeared his two fairies, who he introduced as Holly Short and Opal Koboi. They, according to Eoin, had always been with him and had always been who he was talking to - but because no one had bothered to ask him about it he felt no need to tell anyone that they existed. It was a huge relief for the family, because finally everything was clear to them. They knew enough from their criminal activities to know of abilities and ability users - the family even had connections with The Order of the Clock Tower already from past business. Eoin was officially declared and registered as an ability user.

To England

This, however, caused some tension in the family. The Order wished to bring Eoin to England for approved education and supervision, but his parents strongly opposed this because they wished for their son to stay in Ireland. It became a tug of war, and Eoin himself was displeased at the idea of attending a school with regular students, in his mind they would be beneath him. In the end, he was the one to approach Agatha and the rest of the Clock Tower leadership with a compromise. He would go with them to England, but he did not wish to enrol in any kind of school. He would continue his lessons via the web with his tutors from Ireland and any other supplementary learning he would do himself. It was a fair deal, and Agatha allowed him to continue his education long distance so long as he came back to London with her immediately. She knew the perfect role for him as well, considering his ability and high intellect. She placed Eoin under the care of Ian Fleming, who ran the subsidiary of The Order of the Clock Tower, known as the Scotland Yard Skilled Crime Department

Scotland Yard specialised in espionage and computer spying, as well as in the field spy work as well, a task that Eoin became quickly invested in. He took to life at The Order well, and unlike many of the members he was actually able to remain in contact with his family because of their established connections with the organisation. Not that he really needed them, he was already becoming quickly independent even for someone as young as 12. Though the other members were just as competitive and petty as he was, he saw it as a good way to improve himself more and more.

The Armed Detective Agency

Fukuzawa.png

Yukichi Fukuzawa

I can get you what you need, just don't talk down to me like I'm a child. Understood?

Bond: ❤❤♡♡♡

Fukuzawa and Eoin have yet to personally meet face to face, as most of their meetings have been conducted via video call from Japan to the U.K. However, Eoin has always remained cordial and polite during the times they have spoken, even when his fairies have been less amicable. He doesn’t like how Fukuzawa appears to talk down to him because of his age, and Eoin takes it a bit personal because he feels he should be treated as an adult. This has caused their relations to be rather cold. Eoin would say he mostly feels very neutral about the man, and that he reminds him a bit too much of a strict parent - something he’s not used to having.

Atsushi.png

Atsushi Nakajima

Hm... So you are the one the Lady herself is tracking down...

Bond: ❤❤❤♡♡

Eoin has had a long interest in Atsushi, having looked through all of the files and records that The Order of the Clock Tower and Scotland Yard Skilled Crime Department have on him. Because of how much interest both organisations have in this boy, Eoin finds it worth his while. He also heard of the bounty on the tiger’s head - which appealed to him greatly. Though the two of them have yet to physically meet, Eoin hopes that they will get the chance to soon enough. He often keeps both Holly and Opal on the lookout for any activity that might indicate he is nearby, hoping that they can track Atsushi down for him.

The Special Division for Unusual Powers

Ango.png

Ango Sakaguchi

Uh Oh... Incoming Call. This can only be one thing if it's from him... More work.

Bond: ❤♡♡♡♡

Ango and Eoin have a purely professional relationship, and have not spoken much directly to one another. They have also not met in person, rather they have just spoken via video call. Most often, Eoin associates hearing from Ango to mean that he is going to have more work given to him - and he deeply dislikes that fact. He finds Ango incredibly condescending and annoying - and he cannot shake the feeling that the man thinks he knows better than him. This is something Eoin deeply hates. He does, however, find it funny that his boss, Ian Fleming, has an ability that does the complete opposite to Ango’s ability - and he sometimes wondered what might happen if they both used their abilities on the same object at the same time.

The Order of the Clock Tower

Agatha.png

Agatha Christie

As you order, Lady Agatha, consider the three of us at your service.

Bond: ❤❤❤❤♡

Eoin highly respects Agatha and appreciates all that she has done for him and the opportunities that she has granted him inside The Order of the Clock Tower. However, he does also treat her with a great deal of distance and slight suspicion, as he has seen for himself just what she is capable of and what she can be like when she is angered. He has absolutely no intention of ever getting on her bad side, however, and is happy to carry out whatever orders she gives him - within reason. Most of the time he appreciates Agatha because she allows him to do whatever he pleases, and does not mind his fairies causing the occasional bit of mayhem wherever they go.

Philip.png

Philip Pullman

Could you keep her from tugging at their wings?! I feel that pain too! And you'll feel hers if I let Holly or Opal bite!

Bond: ❤❤♡♡♡

Eoin finds Philip to be difficult to get along with. Though he respects him as the right hand man of Agatha Christie, he cannot connect with him on any kind of personal level, and even their professional relations are mostly cold. He dislikes Philip’s patronising way of speaking down to him - and gets very snitty when Lyra, Philip’s ability, messes around with his fairies. She can be very rough with them - and his pet pine marten has tried to eat them on multiple occasions. Both of these things have soured relations between the two, and it is unlikely to ever be repaired any time soon either. They mostly keep out of each other’s way.

Oscar.png

Oscar Wilde

For the last time my eyes are naturally like this!

Bond: ❤❤♡♡♡

Ideally, Eoin would rather not deal with Oscar as it feels a lot like being used as a dress up doll for the man’s make-up and fashion design ideas. This mostly comes from Oscar being convinced that Eoin’s eyes cannot be naturally different colours and that he must be wearing contact lenses. Eoin denies this, and tries to explain that his eyes are natural, but it never works. Eoin tries his best to keep his distance from Oscar as much as he can, and will actively leave the room if it seems like Oscar is coming nearby. However, often he is forced to be around him because of his work.

Scotland Yard Skilled Crime Department

Ian.png

Ian Fleming

Did Anthony run crying to you again? Look... The Fairies just ate his jaffa cakes it's not as bad as he makes it out to be.

Bond: ❤❤❤♡♡

Ian and Eoin actually get along alright, and even if Ian is not a biological family figure to him, Eoin wouldn’t mind considering him as such. To an extent. The main issue that keeps Eoin from getting too close to him is that Ian does not always give him his way or what he wants. Eoin doesn’t like that, and he often finds it annoying how much he gets lectured on the things he chooses to do by Ian. He understands that the man cares, and wants all of Scotland Yard Skilled Crime Department to get along, but Eoin doesn’t really want to play along all that much. Often, his fairies like to sneak into his office and snoop through his things for fun.

Anthony.png

Anthony Horowitz

It says here, Anthony, that you are a prick.

Bond: ❤❤♡♡♡

Anthony is a great source of entertainment to Eoin, mostly because the two of them get incredibly competitive when they are in the same room together. There have been many occasions where Eoin has bested Anthony at something they challenged each other to, and takes great pride in being able to beat someone almost twice his age. What he does not like at all, however, is how Anthony will swat at Holly and Opal when they are near him. Therefore, he lets them bite him whenever they feel threatened. This has only worsened their arguing, and it can even get in the way of one or both of them completing their work. Often they will be heard trading insults.

Robert Muchamore

Imeacht gan teacht ort. Bastard.

Bond: ❤❤❤♡♡

Eoin would say he mostly doesn’t understand what Robert is talking about the majority of the time. Whenever Robert speaks in his very thick accent, then Eoin will respond in kind with the strongest irish lilt he can muster up. This leads to complete confusion for them both, but also endless entertainment. Eoin knows what Robert is capable of, and will be careful to avoid eye contact with him, but has been unable to stop Robert from possessing one of his fairies a couple of times - which has caused great confusion and chaos when it has happened.

I take no responsibility for the bites you brought them on yourself.

Bond: ❤❤♡♡♡

Eoin predominantly finds Mark incredibly irritating. Whenever he needs something, and Mark happens to have been in the room before, Eoin always finds that it has been stolen. The rampant kleptomania gets on his nerves immensely, and it often takes multiple threats to get his things back. Thankfully they usually do return, but Mark gets covered in fairy bites a lot because of it. Eoin has taken to keeping careful eye on all of his things now, and mostly tries to avoid working with or around Mark for too long.
