Noctyrne's Links
i am begging you to be normal just once
absolutely not you don't pay me for that
Hatred and resentment. He stole Sachiko's attention when they were children and now he's stolen her from their home. Akane spouts many of the falsehoods she was raised on, regarding albinic oni, but deep down she believes few of them. They're just a good foundation, an excuse if you will, for her anger towards Kiyoshi. In reality, it's all very selfish.
Seiichi had always considered Kiyoshi to be pathetic. A weak, ugly thing which fouled their family name. When he was young, Kiyoshi was a curiosity, but that appeal faded as he grew and eventually petered out as he became a toddler. Seiichi spent decades without looking upon his brother-- Did not, in fact, see him again until an encounter in his quest to fulfill their father's orders and kill Kiyoshi. The oni before him was not the pale, fragile being he remembered. Since then, he has had... strange feelings towards his brother.
Sachiko has always considered Akane to be her beloved younger sister. For a long time, she was the youngest of her siblings. Even now she thinks fondly of the days when Akane, little more than a child, would follow at her heels all wide-eyed and beaming. She loves her sister, as she does all her siblings-- But like the rest, she cannot bear to place them above Kiyoshi.
From how Akane speaks about Sachiko, you'd think she put the sun in the sky and carved out space for the oceans so the world wouldn't flood. It's not exaggeration to say that Akane borders on obsessed with her sister. Much of this is born from a misplaced sense of abandonment from her youth, when to her, Sachiko's focus abruptly shifted from her and their brothers, to Kiyoshi. In her mind, Kiyoshi must somehow be controlling Sachiko, or twisted her against her family, because there is simply not other reason her dear, perfect sister would abandon the compound and run away before his execution. To Akane; Kiyoshi must be evil and Sachiko can do no wrong.
A useful, if irritating, subordinate. She wouldn't mourn him if he died, but she might make an effort to avenge him.
Does he like being bossed around by a teenager? No. Is he stupid enough to try and kill her a second time? Absolutely fucking not.
(She is very bad at verbally explaining her feelings but she has and will again kill anyone who even so much as breathes too hard on Bella)
Another day, another contract. This guy doesn't even rank among the daemons Preene has contracted with, but he's not useless. There are some specific things he's quite capable with, though none of them involve combat. Preene has a feeling he's liable to get himself offed, though, so he'll make use of him as best he can for the time being.
A mortal, controlling HIM? As if he were a dog to be called and dismissed at his whim? Preposterous. Humiliating. Inconceivable. But more than that, the idea that a mortal could have more skill with a contract than HIM is simply... it's just not possible! ( He'll get around to hating Preene in a few centuries, once he's grasped the idea that he's been outmatched. For now it's just a simmering resentment. )
He sure was annoying to deal with.
He fully intends to reap a most horrible revenge on this man.
...Who?
How dare this brat think he has the right to dictate Zedgest's ability to enter the Palaces of Hell?! ( Never mind that Jornunandi is his elder brother... ) One day, he intends to put this boy in his place.
A true embarrassment. He hasn't seemed to grasp that if he pulls any of his petty nonsense in a setting where Shira is not obligated to politeness, he's going to die.
Zedgest's feelings towards women are especially evident with Shira. She represents everything he finds disdainful about women- their lasciviousness, their sexuality, their vanity -while also starkly contradicting them. ( Shira is, after all, neither weak, nor desperate, nor in any way encumbered by dependence on men. ) That she holds a higher ranking than him is a source of endless rage. He takes any opportunity to belittle her or somehow be a thorn in her side. It's kind of pathetic.
What a joke. Zedgest is to Ziazel what a toy mouse is to a cat. Forgettable, amusing for a few moments, and otherwise utterly unremarkable. He finds Zedgest's suffering endlessly funny and only really acknowledges him these days because of the unfortunate business with Preene. Why hasn't Ziazel killed him yet? Honestly, he just doesn't care enough about his existence.
Of all the siblings he's been forced to interact with, Zedgest loathes Ziazel perhaps the most. His lazy little brother, without clear ambitions and wasting his potential, suddenly jumped from low in the rankings all the way up to the 36th spot. Not to mention earning their father's attention? Zedgest felt personally slighted. To this day, he can't figure out how Ziazel accomplished it, unable to wrap his head around the idea that he's simply that strong.
Though slow to befriend others, Snow's patient persistence won Ewan over. Their shared affection for reptiles and Snow's ability to read the mood of a room makes them close companions. Because of his weak constitution, Ewan has a habit of stepping in and defending him when necessary.
Pureblood culture often dictates that half-breeds like Ewan are beneath creatures like Snow, but he was raised by a forward thinking family. More curious than biased, Snow cultivated a quiet friendship with the naga, intrigued by his scaled companions and eager to learn from him. Now, they're very close.
