Gensokyo

Some of the many gods of Gensokyo. The gods of Gensokyo are rooted in Shintoism, a religion with animist roots; this belief system states that any being, object or even phenomenon can be considered a god.

Humans from Gensokyo appear similar to humans in the outside world, but are remarkably different in terms of abilities. As a result of being sealed away from the rest of the outside world, humans living in Gensokyo have no knowledge of modern scientific advances.
Humans who come from outside of the border of Gensokyo are referred to as "outsiders".

In Gensokyo, youkai greatly outnumber humans. They are mischievous and sometimes even dangerous spirits. Youkai are dependent on conflict with humans in order to survive, so Gensokyo's inhabitants have developed a number of unique rules and customs.
