Hello and welcome to the 2023 Scatterstar Isles MYO Contest!

To celebrate our Toyhouse expansion, we're holding a Make-Your-Own contest for anyone interested in joining the group!
Do you love storytelling, plot revelations, monthly events, rich lore, player influence, and a lively community of friends? We've got all that and more in our established ARPG.

Who We Are

Scatterstar Isles is an ARPG (art role-playing game) group that has been running since 2019! Deviantart was our primary base of operations, but we’ve decided to expand onto TH as a way to broaden our reach and invite new players into our thriving world.

Scatterstar is a science-fantasy world populated by the intrepid species known as curios! The world itself is hostile and strange, but curios have carved out an existence among the mutated wildlife of the mainland and the various threats of the other regions.

Players are invited to explore, craft, and engage in monthly events with unique prizes. We pride ourselves on crafting interesting situations for players to engage with every month while making it easy for players to jump in and out as their schedules allow. The ongoing curio storyline can be influenced by the participation of players and we invite newcomers to see just how drastically they can shape the course of curio history!

In Scatterstar, we put players first and foremost. Player experience is our priority, so we strive to keep our gameplay balanced and fair. We warmly welcome artists and writers of all skill levels to participate in our game and our community! Whether you’d like to treat the game as a way to hone your craft or an opportunity to socialize with other creatives, we’re happy to have you!

What is a Curio?

Curios are a race of intelligent, sphinx-like people who survive and thrive in the wilds of Scatterstar! The lives they've built exist in the ruins of another, larger race, but these ancients have long since vanished from the world curios know, so it's up to them to forge a new world from the scraps left behind. Curios come from all walks of life. Some brave the wilds while others live in thriving cities always on the verge of a new technological breakthrough.

Modern life on the mainland typically centers around one of the three Guilds. The Hunter’s Guild is known for its monster hunters, pet breeders, and survivalists. The Merchant’s Guild is known for merchants of course but also: trail blazers, mediators, and sailors. The Archaeologist’s Guild is synonymous with discovery. They are archivists, inventors, and teachers. All Guilds seek to explore the land for their own unique purposes. It’s important to note that curios can have any sort of profession separate from their Guild. A baker could be part of the Hunter’s guild, or a linny breeder a part of the Merchant’s Guild. A curio can choose how involved they are with their Guild. You will not have to officially choose a Guild for your curio till you start the ARPG.

For the purposes of this MYO contest we will mainly be focused on the standard mainland variety of curios, but there will be ways to upgrade to one of the two existing subspecies detailed later in the journal. You can find information about anatomy, all types, and so much more at our [website]!

Rules & Prizes

Contest ends: January 31st, 11:59pm EST

Your submission must include the following:

• A clean, coloured full-body design, clearly visible. Back view is not required. If adding an outfit, please include an unclothed version.
• A written description, detailing your curio's character and some backstory. There is no minimum length requirement for this.
• A list of traits used, and links to any ads/referrals you made to earn them.

Please take the following rules into account:

• This contest is only for people who do not own a curio already! All existing owners should check out the section at the bottom of this page for a raffle made just for you!
• You must be a member of the Scatterstar Isles Toyhouse World to qualify as a winner in this contest.
• You must reply to [this comment] with your entry and the associated information in order to be judged.
• Do not upload your curio to Toyhouse in an official capacity until after the contest is completed and you have decided to make the curio official or not.
• In the event you do not wish to make your curio official but would like to keep the character, we kindly ask that these three traits be removed:
  • Tail bead(s)
  • Forehead mark
  • Partial face mask
• Our group does not permit curio characters based on commercial characters (ex: Naruto, Boku no Hero Academia, Legend of Zelda, etc). For the purposes of this contest, we are not allowing designs based on existing characters you own.
• You may make up to two (2) curios for this event! Only one can place in the event.
• Do not put yourself down or guilt judges or other players. This is meant to be a fun opportunity. Nothing more, nothing less.
• The design you submit must be your own work. No one else can draw your entries for you.
• If you don't place in the contest, you'll be able to purchase your MYO afterwards. You'll be able to resell, trade, or gift an approved design after the event.
• All traits must be listed in your description + proof of all traits linked.

Design Resources & Info

★ We will take three things into account during judging:

• Design: Design is not quality of art, but quality of creative vision.
• Story: Story in this case is the character's history and connection to the setting.
• Character: Character is a good marriage between design, story, and overall vision for the character.

★ Your primary resource for designing will be the curio site: Scatterstar.weebly.com

Subspecies traits are exclusive to Undyre or Eisgar type slots. See below for what to do if you wish to upgrade to either type.

★ MYOs in this contest are defualt all common traits, with one free uncommon trait. See the section below on earning more traits for your MYO.

★ We cannot give you guidance on the design itself or write your story for you, but we can clarify anatomy questions or explains portions of the world more in-depth.

★ Prosthetic are allowed, but may not be robotic.

★ Designs that did not place can be made official at the end for $20USD per curio.

Adding Traits & Upgrading to Subspecies

The default allowed traits are all-common + 1 Uncommon trait. To add traits or to upgrade to a subspecies, you must:

• Advertise this contest to gain an Uncommon trait! You can do this up to two times. Types of advertisement permitted include dA journals, twitter posts, TH bulletins, and Discord server ads. Please include screencaps or links to your ad when submitting your design.
• For one rare trait, get one friend to join the MYO Contest and submit a design!
• To upgrade to a subspecies (Undyre or Eisgar), get two friends to join the MYO contest and submit a design!
