🔍LOST MEDIA | THREAD🔎

Posted 3 years, 4 months ago (Edited 1 year, 6 months ago) by BIRD

Have a certain video, tv show, movie, short or game thats on the tip of your tongue, or that youve been trying to find but can’t seem to find any info on it? I’ve been there! If so, this is the thread for you!

Share your mysteries to others, or help others with finding stuff about that specific media! I’ve always had a huge passion with this type of stuff so I’d love to help if I find anything of use!

can be super recent, can be super old. Can be a YouTube video, or it can be a tv show, movie, or a video game! ANYTHING.

god I’ve been meaning to make a thread like this for a while but I always forget to :( . This thread is heavily inspired by r/tipofmytongue and blameitonjorge (he makes a ton of lost media discovery videos! Go watch em if you’re interested in that stuff, it’s REALLY interesting and well made! Prob one of my favorites so far atm).

Okay, I have 2 things I'm looking for!
First is an educational game I played in Elementary School. All I remember is the the game has 4 circles, each in it's own color. (one for each subject) as it's interface and when you clicked on a circle it zoomed in (I think??) and had a bunch of circles of subcategories. I think it may have had butterflies somewhere too??

And for the other thing, it's a magical girl(?) figure skating anime that I think I watched as a kid but I don't even know if it's real at this point,, It was in a more 90s style and the plot i remember has this girl and her family go to a mall that has an ice skating rink. There was this famous figure skater that was supposed to put on a show there, but something happened and she wasn't able to. So, the skater gave the girl a box of things she called 'Prism Stones' that allowed her to either transform or just be instantly amazing at skating and them she was able to put on the show. I have doubts about this anime not being real because of how much detail I remember about it,, I've also looked a lot for this anime, so I'm unsure if it's a magical girl show?? It's never on any lists I've seen,,

HoneyCombs

Akari-Yuu I may have a lead on the second one you're looking for.

What your describing heavily sounds like either Pretty Rhythm: Aurora Dream or another piece of media from the same series. While it's not a magical girl anime and I'm not sure about the 90s anime style part, it's a figure skating anime and they use Prism Stones. The main character also gets recruited at a mall.

This one might be a really tough one but I'm currently looking for a Japanese only video game that was either for the ps1 or dreamcast. It was a simplistic looking 3d game where you play as this girl with a sword and you go around possibly recruiting cat people and using them to defeat enemies (you can also fight them). The thing I mainly remember is that it used fast text to speech sounding voice acting that was kind of high pitched.
I also remember the buildings and stuff being very simple shapes. It also might've had a nurse looking character?? Maybe with purple or blue hair. If I had to describe the graphics it'd be a more colorful, happy and brighter looking LSD: Dream Emulator but in 3rd person and a different camera angle.

DoodleSlime

I can't remember about his movie about a kid who talks with a prisoner woman who gives him advise or something

Them the climax was like the kid reclaims her advice sucked and she was: "bitch for something I'm in prison" and threw the mirror shard she uses to see him from her cell

...

Lilina

I'm having a lot of trouble with remembering a (kids/teens?) novel that had like two kid protagonists (One a boy and the other a homeschooled girl), and the third protagonist was an older guy with wings. I do not remember this novel's plot at all, but all I know is that one of my elementary school teachers read this novel to me. It also apparently had a movie adaptation.

I think I recall the novel's front cover being a white feather on a dark blue/navy background, but other than that, it's all I could remember of it.

There was a website I used to love visiting as a teen. It was a Mad Lib in a sense. You got to put down character names and a few other things and then it generated a short story.  It was a Gothic looking website in the mid 2014's. I think the website was owned by someone European but didn't have eu in the url.

I love this thread… I have like 3-4 things so bare with me aahh

1– theres this anime we haven’t seen in like 7 years, it used to be on Netflix, it was very dreamlike, about this girl who was like a dancer, and met a prince without a heart so she does these things to get him his heart back I think? I remember it being called “Princess Tutu” and its like a 2000’s style film i think, one day it was just gone from netflix and we still don’t know why but when I checked online there were no results for it either and im starting to wonder if we dreamt it all up. Maybe I misspelled it but could someone help us? ;; [found! It was actually princess tutu!]

2– this next few are games that’re from those old like.. 2017-2018 flash game websites like (yeppi i think its called?) The first one is one of those point and click puzzle games where you help a cat get milk, in the second one its a platformer where this weird blob looking guy has a teleporting hat and you can remove the limbs to advance the stages, and the last is like this shooter type 3d dungeon crawler(?) where you play as like personified sushi people.. it was part of a series of games, they’re kinda like ripoff power rangers as sushi characters lol. One was pink I remember, and one was definitely named Wasabi or something similar. (Im not sure these are even findable now with the new flash update ;; )

3– this one is a manga series about these kids with wings that are a part of a science experiment and are basically escapees that want to live normally and cant because they’re constantly on the run. Iirc the main character is a poc or theyre tanned? It was something we could find in our middle school library but I definitely remember there being blood and suffering in various segments of the book. The covers were in color, and I think the cover of the first book is blue with clouds and a sky from a bottom view angle.
(Possibilities that can be crossed out:

•Haibane Renmei for #3 )

[EDIT: I FOUND THIS ITS CALLED MAXIMUM RIDE !!!]

4– this is actually a word and not a media. What is the fear of being trapped in an area that is being compressed? Is it a word? Its not claustrophobia, Im unsure how else to describe it, but imagine being stuck in a vacuum chamber. Is this a thing? [found! Cleithrophobia!]

(Edit 1 of maybe many)

5– another flash game i think! Where this girl has to take the eyes of her family members to “see from their perspective” in order to complete the game. I remember the dad’s view had a blueprint view and the baby’s was scribbly i think. Iirc the graphics were kinda trippy and to a 12 year old the graphics were like a horror game. I don’t think we could play it now knowing we’ve had photosensitivity but I’d love to know the name again for nostalgia sake at least ;w;

(Edit 2)

6– a book series that was like warrior cats but for wolves, main character was a defect wolf named faolan or something who got exiled, made by the same author of ga’hoole I think?

[wolves of the beyond! Ty]

Anyways thank you for looking at our horribly long rambles on Things In Our Childhood We Forgot Existed ty to anyone who helps us find an answer it means a lot more than you know being able to re-know these things if they aren’t just our imagination ;;

Dianxia

SeraBun Are you sure it's not Princess Tutu, like, the anime? 'Cause that's the exact premise o: Though I don't remember it ever being a film--Was it a live action or something?

3 sounds vaguely familiar but I'm not sure if I'm tricking myself into thinking it is or not, I feel like I've seen a few manga like that though I don't recall the MC being poc afaik

SylvaBun

Dianxia it was an anime! And i could’ve sworn that it was the name it was just that the countless times we’ve searched it nothing has come up with the title ;;”

It definitely wasn’t live action, it was under Netflix’s anime category, I know that

On 3 I could be mis-remembering, but I know there were like a big group of children and I think they even called themself a flock because of the wings. I do know that at least one of them was poc or darker colored

Dianxia

SeraBun That's odd! Princess Tutu is definitely the name, is it not this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufd4wOj2fD8

EDIT: oh i just realized the video for that one is awfully stuttery, here's a different link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pl3wdwXJI8g

To be fair though, Princess tutu is a rather old anime that's been faded a bit in obscurity despite it's old popularity, that could be why you don't get results? That's genuinely odd that you wouldn't get results for it though o:

It doesn't really fit the description afaik from the summary in regards to the experiment part at least, but perhaps you're thinking of Haibane Renmei for #3?
