I don't really have a problem with WTA! They're usually more HQ designs than FCFS, and it ensures that they go to a home where they're wanted rather than mass claimers or people who claim to play forum games. I understand not knowing immediately what you want to do with a design, but I also understand not wanting to give a design FCFS because there are a lot of people who claim just to claim... even if they won't ever use the design. So having a WTA can help soothe the nerves a bit. And besides, if you're getting a character for free, especially an HQ one, I think it's fair for the gifter to get a little bit of writing in return. <3

I am a bit tired of the generator designs, though, because I don't have much of a use for them and they're saturating the website, haha.

Hey guys, a lil help? I don't understand how the freebie bin works. Like- where the hecc do you find the characters you can adopt? Where do you place the characters you want people to adopt???

I'm not here to cause trouble or anything, but more-so a discussion:

Could we please get some kind of limit to how frequently someone can claim in the Freebie Thread? I see people complain about this all the time (Unpopular Opinion Thread, Toyhouse Pet Peeves Thread, Toyhouse Drama Blogs, etc.); nobody (new) wants to set foot on the Freebie Bin because the exact same handful of people swipe up a character as soon as it touches down on the thread.

I absolutely don't care what they do with the character, but my problem is the lack of common courtesy that comes into play to allow other people to have a chance. I know people adopting out characters can set rules, but if they don't take that into consideration and just post in the thread, they're likely to give it to the first person to ping them (which is, usually, the same people), especially since the mass claimers are subscribed to the thread (and yes you can absolutely tell when someone's subscribed to it).

I don't see how setting limits could be a problem? If anything it'll only encourage more people to integrate thenselves into the thread, and not be deterred from joining it entirely.

EDIT: I'd also like to apologize that I came off venty. This is just a problem that's been stewing for a while, and it baffles me why nothing's been done about it.

I agree. I never claim (or even get to claim) designs that I want anymore because there are some people who claim all of them immediately... and it's really discouraging. I've seen plenty of people who "don't use humanoids" or "don't use males" take them just because they're free (and usually hq) and they either rot in their account or get put into a forum game. This is a place for charity, and everyone should be able to claim once in a while.

The only problem is that it would be difficult to come up with an effective system.

What we SHOULDN'T do is have it be limited by character count. I have around 500 characters, but I only claim VERY sparingly when I see a design that I know I would use. So, if there were limits by character count, that would be completely unfair. Especially because some people who have a lot of characters a)purchase most of their characters with their own money (rather than getting them free), b)make their characters themselves, or c) have a lot of characters uft/ufs that they want to get rid of. The majority of my characters were purchased with my money, and that shouldn't be counted on whether or not I "deserve" a free character over someone else with 20 characters.

And like Komason said, it's not anyone's business what is done with a character after it's claimed. The problem is that people are being inconsiderate by taking characters CONSTANTLY and not giving anyone else a chance. It's not nice and makes people unsubscribe from the thread. I hate to sound like this, but it's, dare I say... selfish? A lot of them are subscribed to the thread, refresh TH constantly, and wait until a freebie is posted so that they can claim it immediately. A very separate (but similar) thing happens in the freebie section of "Browse," where the same 5-10 people refresh it and wait for characters to be posted.

I'd be willing to make a freebie thread that takes mass claimers into account? If the moderator of this thread doesn't want to take the time to do it, which would be understandable. <3 If people want one, I'll get to makin' it!

Everything i would say has already been stated by the previous users so i'll refrain from echoing
BUT I'd be very interested in a freebie thread with stronger rules tbh.

I unsubscribed to the Freebie bin because of mass claimers . I have quite a bit of characters I would love to give out for free but refuse to fuel mass claims . If there were enough moderators in it , a moderated freebie bin where a limit on character claims could 100 percent be possible .
