Is it ok to redesign a character that you've adopted? There's this character I would like to adopt (I recently asked in the FB2.0) and I want to make a few drastic changes to him. I just want to know if its ok in general or if its something I should take up with the creator.

FuuMiku

dreamlogzz It's generally seen as ok if the character still looks close enough afterwards, if the redesign is really that intense then you asking the creator could be nice yeah. If they have a ToS then it's possible there'll be a rule regarding redesigns on there, like "you can redesign but the character still needs to look like themselves" or "the design is yours, do whatever the heck you want", or maybe there won't be a thing written and it's kinda all up to assumptions. If there are no rules written then the creator can't hold you accountable if you do anything they dislike though so there's that. Hope this was helpful

Gong to add my own addition to this, since I am a creator of adopts.

I would say if the design is not changed to much then it should be fine. But if your doing a pretty big overhaul on the design , then ask the creator. If they have no visible TOS please do ask them. Never assume it is okay to change a design if the TOS are not visible. It could be that they accidentally deleted them, or like what has happened to me on TH several times, a glitch had removed mine more then once.  ALWAYS, always contact the creator if you can not find a visible TOS about if its okay or not.

Because while a creator can not hold you accountable like Fuu stated, they sure as hell can block you from future designs or art. One simple act of kindness and a simple act of asking, goes a looooong way. At least it has in my book as a creator, and in a lot of creators books that I have worked with.

To add to this though. If you have no idea who the creator is, or if after attempting to contact them you get no answer, I would say you are okay to change a design.

PeachDango Thank you! :D after reading that I'll go ask, just in case.

Hi yo I’m offering free refurbs of characters that are being tossed around as fodder so they might get new homes, I’m not really changing their designs just prettying them up a bit and making them clearer, I’ve started a thread for it which is here

https://toyhou.se/~forums/13973.character-games-freebies/150230.free-oc-refurb-open-

I was wondering if it was possible to work together with the freebie bin to help users who find a design they like but want it to be more defined or clearer etc. I know there are a lot of designs out there that need some love and I’m hoping this will help OCs find hope. Rather then just be taken cause they’re free and can be used as fod.

I'm confused about why you have to ask to regift/retrade/sell the character you now own, especially if you got art for them and PAID for it. What if they say no? You have to keep the character you don't use or want to just sit in your TH until they say yes? I feel like once you've given a character away the new person has full rights over that character (unless it's co-owned). I understand if you have a tos or like "you can't regift it for this many hours" but I think asking the person who regifted it (who clearly doesn't want it cause why else would they get rid of it) to regift it is a little much. And they literally did not want it, but can tell you you can't not want it.

Posting this here since this is a discussion thread

TheCooki3Cat some people dislike it when their characters are sold without them wanting it to be. a lot of people probably dont wanna see the character go off website. maybe ask whoever made it to buy them back from you?

TheCooki3Cat

Then they shouldnt have sold it. I can reason with it being offline or on another website, not even I like that. But I cant stop someone from giving away something they rightfully own and have items paid for.

As I said I respect and understand but I feel like you dont want someone to give away your design you shouldnt have given it away in the first place, that's unreasonable. If it was the creator maybe, but if it's been passed to 8 different people and the 7th person refuses to allow the 8th person to regift it even though the eight person owns it and in toyhouses terms has all rights to it that's extremely unreasonable.

TheCooki3Cat

And I'm saying as long as the person who has paid items and art added onto the character, they shouldnt have to ask the last person if they should be allowed to sell it. Their worth has gone up due to the fact they have more art and items and they have put money and time into the character so it should be allowed to be sold. If the creator didnt want that then they need to make it clear don't do anything to this character that could give it more value.

If they want to sell it and it doesnt have anything then no, because it has no extra worth. They should be allowed to regift it as they own it, even if they tell the last person who owns it they are regifting it, the last user (if it isnt the original creator) should not be allowed to say no. And if they want it back they need to ask for it (and if the value of the character has increased meet some sort of demand the current owner has like trade or do art)... Cause think about it...they could purposely force the user not to regift it just so it can sit in their account.

MelodyAdopts

I have a WTA adopt that doesn't really have an end date per say, but I'll choose the winner after I get 5 entries. Would I be able to post her on the thread, or can I only do that if I say she ends after a certain amount of time?

reminder that@goosethorn is reuploading others' designs and claiming that they own the rights to them. don't interact: just block and report.
