What first made Chris start to question his family's religious beliefs? Was there a specific event/teaching that he secretly began to question or disagree with?
there wasn't really a single event that made him start to question things. rather, small seeds of doubt were planted in his mind as he got older. sometimes it was his parents not answering his questions, and other times it was religious education not explaining the reasons behind their teachings. informing himself about opposing viewpoints once he was old enough to find them fueled his questioning further.
His bio says that he started to figure out his sexuality online; was that through a community that he found on the internet, or something else? Did he ever have to explain away internet history for his parents' benefit?
something else. he was too shy to interact with others online. to put it lightly, chris has probably had to explain himself at least once.
Does Chris have any contact with his parents at this point in time? Do they know how he's doing? Does Peter stand up for him when he comes up in conversation among the family?
i'd imagine he's starting to drift away from them, only updating them on how he's doing every once in a while. even though chris and peter's relationship with their parents wasn't abusive or unhealthy, it is a bit strained (even more so for peter). they both have their reasons for slowly drifting away from their parents besides being an ocean away, with chris being that he felt that the way they raised him stifled his recovery from depression/anxiety and his growth as a person in general. it's all kind of vague/up in the air atm since i haven't exactly fleshed out their parents yet but :"^o that's the gist of it i guess
