You WILL let me ask about your ocs. [temp closed]

Posted 3 years, 11 months ago (Edited 3 years, 6 months ago) by damascus

I am currently unable to keep up due to having moved, but I will come back to this thread when I can!

(holding out my hand) give me your OCs. Let me ask questions.

100% inspired by Trowa's super trendy post! It got me all hyped up to talk about my own OCs, and so I want to pay it forward to everyone else.

Pick one OC. Post IC, and I'll read through your OC's profile and find questions to ask you. It might take me some time, but I'll be sure to get back to everyone. Don't worry about how many people are ahead of you, I'll get to ya!

I’m amazed by the traction this thread got! We had over 250 posts when I unfortunately had to close it, and now I'm bringing it back! It’s so much fun to read profiles I might not have otherwise even found, and then get to dig deep into their backgrounds with questions! I have seen a couple of people say that they might want to ask me questions; this is 100% NOT required and if you just want to drop a character and come back to answer questions, you are valid in that!

But if you DO want to ask me about my characters in turn, I would recommend Apocalypse Tokyo! (Although you’re free to venture into others, of course!) This is just my active folder that I work on regularly. Or, if you want to ask about an underdeveloped world, "of the rising sun" is my new project. Once again, NOT required. No need to feel pressured to think something up!

“I’m certainly not as much of an open book as I used to be but do ask what comes to mind and I will do my best to answer.”

CorvidCreatures

Why is Kipper afraid of being hurt or abandoned by friends?
Basically they were in a long abusive friendship but they had nobody else, and when that friend left they didn’t really have anyone for a really long time. Although they’re fine now, they’re scared of being that lonely again

What kind of music do they like, and what do they like to draw?
They don’t really have a specific music genre they like. Usually they’ll just find a song that they like, listen to it constantly, then get burned out on it but come back in a few weeks. They mostly draw animals and anthros but are trying to improve on humans

Do they have a favorite plushie?
Their favorite plushie is either a long wolf thing (kind of like those squishmallows but it’s a different brand and is long instead of egg shaped) or a pillow-plushie thing of Deku from My Hero Academia!

Do they live with anyone? (parents, roommates, etc.)

It kind of depends on the context. I never gave them a backstory or anything, so if we’re talking about if it’s based on who they’re based of (myself) then it would be parents and sister when she’s at home (they’re still a minor).

I just updated his bio/profile, so I'm down for any questions about Cass!

I’d love any questions!

Spanish_Senpai

I'll put all this under a spoiler so things don't get crowded! :D These were super fun to answer and I think I learned a lot about little ole Nimb today haha!

1. Do any of the children stand out to Nimb as being particularly kind?

In total there are 5 children aged 11, 9, 6, and the 4 year old twins. The twins, a girl and boy, are the kindest thanks to their youth and love of anybody who will play with them. The 9 year old daughter struggles to find her place in their big family as a middle child and appreciates the way Nimb is more a friend than a teacher or another servant. She is the one who brings magic books to Nimb even when her parents warn her not to. She sees it as a form of petty defiance since she doesn't really know how powerful Nimb's magic could be. The 11 year old son is distant to Nimb most of the time since he is very focused on taking charge of the family buisness one day and befriending other buisness partner's children. Nimb prefers to avoid him since he is very loyal to his parents. The 6 year old daughter is usually quiet and keeps to herself. She doesn't mind giving Nimb some of the snacks the kitchens specially make for her.

2. Does he know their names, does he play with any of them?

Nimb knows all their names. In order of oldest to youngest they are: Andrew, Vivian, Samantha, Eleanor, and Felix. He usually addresses them as sir or ma'am but when playing with the twins he will drop the formalitites. Vivian and him will explore the garden while Vivian talks about the latest thing her parents have done to make her feel small. Nimb chooses to not to mention that he is literally enslaved by her parents and has little to no free will. Sometimes Samantha will request that Nimb read to her since she likes looking at his rainbow hair and ears. On rare occassions Nimb will even let her pet them.

3. Does Nimb use magic to grow his flowers, or does he just have an excellent green thumb? Or both?

A combination of both! Nimb's magic can accelerate the growth of plants (and in the future even heal wounds) but at the moment it is very taxing. This magic can make a seedling into a full grown plant in just a minute. The other, more casual and easier method of growing plants and flowers is by talking to them. After one conversation to the plants he can coax them into blooming for about a day. The process can be repeated however many times though. It is possible a flower won't bloom or a plant won't straighten up and if it is an obvious plant, Nimb will have to use taxing magic to force it to do so.

4. What happened to Nimb's mother; is she still looking for him?

Nimb's mother has been trying to get any realm hopping magic user to help get her son back, but she isn't wealthy enough to afford their service and she can't trust most adventurers to not keep Nimb for themselves. She's resorted to trying the same thing as her son and reading about how to use realm hopping magic. Though she still has to figure out what realm he was taken to. Fortuantely, Nimb has a friend (to be added to bio later) that is willing to help get Nimb back as well.

5. Do you think they'll ever become reunited, or is Nimb doomed to live out his life in this other world?

I'm a sucker for a happy ending so I definetely see them being reunited but only after quite a few hardships and obstacles since realm traveling technology/magic is complicated to learn and use.

Pyre RadiantRaindragon

damedanbo

Spoilered because this is gonna be long!

When Pyre played music on the street for his living, did he play the piano or another instrument?

Yes, he played piano or keyboard! Depending on what kind of area/venue he was performing at. He never learned to play any other instruments. He also briefly tried singing, but wasn't comfortable doing it and people preferred it when he just played.

What was the experience of changing into a vampire like--painful, scary, exciting?

In most peoples' case, being Turned can be scary and disorientating because they don't know what they're getting into. Pyre did it willingly - and he'd already heard his brother describe what being Turned felt like - so he had some idea of what to expect. Preparation and prior knowledge made the experience much more bearable.

Usually, being Turned isn't too painful. After being bitten, the 'victim' will fall unconscious for several hours before waking up as a vampire. This can obviously be very disorientating (I mean, imagine waking up with powers you didn't have a few hours ago). Pyre had it easy, but many people who get Turned don't.

Was the choice to become a vampire immediate? Or was he afraid to do it for his brother?

There was very little hesitation on Pyre's part. He couldn't bear to see his brother going through this experience that no-one else in the family could understand... and I think a part of him just wanted to be a vampire, too. 'Hey, I can help my brother and get cool new powers!' was his thought process before making the decision.

Is there a reason he likes mint so much to carry a bag of mint candies around?

Originally, he didn't always carry them. But one day, he was travelling in the car with his friend Loch, who suffers from pretty severe motion sickness. Pyre happened to have some mints at the time, so he offered one to her (mint can be used to help with nausea!). After this, he got into the habit of carrying mints all the time in case Loch or anyone else needed them. Though he still eats them himself too.

Why didn't he like his real name; was it just a negative association with his old life?

It's a bit of a silly reason - but he just doesn't like that his real name sounds so ordinary. Pyre likes things to be unusual, eccentric, wild. He never felt a connection with his first name, preferring to be called some kind of silly nickname, even in childhood. Later, he created the name Pyre for himself and realised he felt more comfortable being addressed as such. Nowadays, although he won't correct you if you call him Rupert, he'll cringe internally every time he hears it.

Thanks so much for the questions!

I WILL let you look at them

Oxyhocin

I'll put the questions and answers under spoilers ^^

Questions:

1. Did Meigui he intend to return from school, or was this a permanent solution to getting away from the monotony of his routine?

2. Did he come to dislike overly-emotional people because of his position?

3. Did Meigui always realize that he was leading a cult, or did this only become clear later?

Answers:

1. He fully intends on returning from school if he is unable to find another reason to stay away from home! Despite how boring he finds the place, his position there does treat him quite well. If the cult ends up defunct in the future, he'd either return to adventuring or look for another high-power position to settle down in.

2. Yes: during his time as the cult leader, he often had to sit placidly while he listened to people and he found that he disliked listening to those that blubbered on about their problems. He's someone who's detached from their emotions (in fact, he straight up lacks some of them), so he can't understand why something would upset someone so much. To him, emotions can cloud your judgment and impede your actions, which will ultimately inconvenience you in the end.

3. He was aware that people treated him differently when he was quite young (maybe around 3 years old?), so he knew from an early age and would toy around with people in his youth because of it. He's not exceptionally bright, but he is quite perceptive.

Fenrine aska-ray

feel free to ask questions about him :3 i dont have much written but i do have most of his backstory laid out I just. eh dont feel like writing it down it's not really a secret

Callar

Thanks for the questions! Did my best to answer them!

1. Why is Banbh so skittish and easily frightened?

It’s not completely clear why he’s so much more skittish than others. He hasn’t had a particularly hard life, and though there was a bit of bullying going on while he was growing up, it wasn’t that bad. His eyesight does play a part. It’s not too bad, but he can’t see things far away that clearly, as they tend to be a bit fuzzy round the edges.

2. Why does his expression appear to say the opposite? Is it a defensive mechanism?

Mostly defensive, yes. He thinks that if he tries to look tough and scary, then the threat will go away. Which...doesn’t really work, to be honest. But also partly because he’s just not used to dealing with other individuals, and tends to get nervous around them, which leads to him looking rather aggressive. Until he gets to know them, that is.

3. What first sparked his interest in insects?

When he was younger, he saw a dragonfly hunting. It was the colours of the insect that caught his attention first, and the way it would repeat its flight path just fascinated him. Sometimes he lost track of it, but then he’d see something brightly coloured in the corner of his eye, and start watching it again. The same with butterflies, as it was the various colours they come in that interested him. Anything brightly coloured will hold his attention for a while. He does have a little trouble seeing beetles in amongst the leaf litter at times though.

4. Why the phobia of blood?

Slightly ties into him being timid/easily scared. He’s got the mindset/mentality of a prey animal, so he wants to avoid being injured, as that could potentially lead to him losing his life. He’s aware that there’s a slim chance of actually receiving an injury, but at the same time, he can’t shake the fear that he will get hurt.

5. What does it take to make him jealous?

Not much, really. Can be anything - for example, he could overhear some of the others talking and think that he’s missing out on something. Might be that he sees  someone getting praised for something, and think that he deserves some praise as well, even if he hasn’t done anything deserving of praise.
