Strange character inspirations/origins?

Posted 5 years, 2 months ago by jammyrolling

I haven't seen a thread like this around in a while and i can't find one oops So here we are! Have you got any strange character origins?

For example, when I first created the Bridgeport series, a lot of characters were actually originally either animals or mushrooms. Now they are most definitely not animals or mushrooms lmao
So who else has strange character origins? The stranger the better!

 tbn colorofhardwork

He was actually based on rainy days, I used to vent on him a bunch actually, but he grew on me to be a part of happier things, he still hasn’t completely left his original inspo yet (at least, when I draw him) but it’s definitely changed a lot

Rin TheSparkledash

A few years ago I made a dumb undertale "magical kitty Len Len" parody with sans
And a while later I decided to redesign the Sans from that video and make it it own character
So yeah, the main character of my comic started out as an undertale shitpost

Ethan Wilhelm PicklePantry

I played Heavy Rain with a friend and we found a bug where you could keep drinking orange juice for as long as you wanted. After that we took the game less seriously and made one of the protag's, Ethan's, story about his search for more oranges instead of, you know, his son.

Lance QuazarStar

Lance and his entire "species" of 61 individuals are based on the british name for those little rubber-and-glass-marble reflectors in the middle of the road: Cat's eyes:

I wanted to make a creature-fied version of them just... because I think they're neat lol, but it's also in-universe what they are: An angel flew down a road at night and the energy caused 61 of the cat's eyes there to spontaneously generate into inorganic creatures with marble eyes and synthetic fur. Y'know. As these things usually go.

Egg Oracle CanineKing

(i'm surprised i haven't commented on here yet)

you ever looked at an egg and the shape looked like a heart or smth

yeah, the whole idea of tea reading except it's with eggs was bc my sister made eggs that looked like something for me and in my half awake state i thought of this character

 Geneva paperflesh

This spirit of abandoned lighthouses and islands was created after passing the game "Dear Esther", especially cherish this girl.

 Marie Suou Osovo

Not positive if this is weird or strange, but she was inspired by that old tumblr comic that was popular for a while about the pink haired character trying not to be a main character?

She's basically a parody character that I placed into the MHA universe where her quirk is just attracting main character Mary Sue-type scenarios whether she likes it or not. xD It's a huge inconvenience and most people figure she's quirkless with a weirdly exciting life lol.

She looks basic like this because... of course she does haha.

There were some cool stories in this. =)

My little llama characters were unusual in formation for me. They just sort of happened due to collected llama forces including thunderstorm summoning, trying to remember how to say 'I am called' or call me in spanish and getting distracted by the word llama being both an animal and a verb and a noun and a bunch of other things, meeting a woman who was going to stay at a llama farm where there was apparently some cute llama named friedrich, and then the deviantart llamas. Kind of coalesced into being a llama collector and farmer of digital llamas and collecting cute llama artwork.

Dragons and commentary on social herd relations in humans started working their way into the llama mix because of reading someone 's writing that seemed to be  about christians as lizards that reproduce a lot with reckless abandon, which was sort of disturbing but somehow slid into my llama farm writing. (I remove the weird strange llamas from the farm cause they make my more normal llamas nervous with their antics, and then the normies start getting anxiety attacks and trying to start wars and stuff, so I sell them to people that might have homes that are more accepting of llamas-that-morph-into-dragons-mutant-llamas or llamas-that-might-be-airedales-wearing-llama-suits-which-certainly-explains-why-it-keeps-flirting-with-the-damn-wolves.

Llama your job is to spit at wolves, not flirt with them, we HAVE SHEEP HERE, ok?

The whole llama dealio was quite inspiring and now I want to keep them, and maybe they'll get their own side stories I dunno. I just let them grow out of what comes at me, so it's been rather random, and now there are llamas. Definitely did not set out to write about llamas or anything of the sort, but here they are.

Manslaughter Vapor

i've already told this story in another thread, but Manslaughter is based on a girl who broke into an elementary school that I used to go to and really hated, doing so with a scooter. She took off with power tools and a hammer. As far as i know, no one ever found the chick.

Tinco RAZPberry

Together with Tongbee.

Inspired by one of my hobby- coin collecting. Their names are also derived from it. Tinco for cinco (or what we call at five peso), and tongbee for tongbao- a chinese currency.

Also Berrelina whose design is based from a strawbeery hairclip.

Haelo RAZPberry

Also haelo. I was sleeping and almost in my dream state, when its image appear. I know that this would make a nice creol, so i opened my eyes and drew it before the image disappears.

Maybe that is why it is only found in dream island.

Computers. More specifically, those computers and operating systems from 1970s-1980s that went obscure.
