Ryddid Isle
♠️💀♠️

Ryddid Isle is not a name you’ll find on any map. It’s not even a name the visitors to its bit of no man land can agree on. It’s just the one Alcippe heard first to refer to the haven the lawless have built on the island sitting to the south off Nymene’s coast. “It means ‘freedom’” said some salt-rimed sailor to the still-new quartermaster and it simply stuck. Since that and Alcippe’s dedicated move to expedite the imports and exports through the less than legal settlement, it’s spread as the preferred name for the location at least among those that deal with her.

The isle itself is a matter of some...discrepancy of ownership between the countries. Both Nymene and Ivras claim that the island resides within their sovereign responsibility. Often, property disputes are promptly settled with a skirmish and the winner solidly taking control of the contested area. However, due to the volatile nature of the nation to the north and the long alliance between Nymene and Ivras, neither country wants to officially assert their control and risk offending their most solid ally. As such, it is unpoliced and left fallow for the taking.

The northern harbor has a town built up around the bay and an unofficial truce enforced by the uniform need to actually unload all the stuff they stole somewhere. Businesses catering to the needs and wants of the pirates and other less reputable types have burrowed their way into the fabric of the burgeoning town. Further out live those who have chosen a more agrarian life, possibly relatives or spouses of those out at sea or others that still wish to avoid the law but wish for a less exciting life than piracy.

On a hill overseeing the bay, Alcippe has built her warehouse and outfitted it with necessary fortifications. Some of her cannons are pointed toward the harbor but they stay largely silent and are used only in extreme cases requiring threats to keep the relative peace on their shore. She has an office with at least two public entrances--one directly to her and one through her assistant’s office.
