the ley lodge
the ley lodge
The unstable magic permeating Ivras has created passages to locations unknown. The Ley Lodge is a mysterious place beyond our world, accessed through doors that appear wherever magic and fear converge.
Anathema's second shop, the Ley Lodge is full of powerful items that allow players to create new kinds of characters and access other valuable in-game rewards.
Items from this shop are not purchased with Gold. Each item requires one Ley Token, a rare currency earned through in-game achievements.
ley tokens
Ley Tokens are a special currency that can only be exchanged at the Ley Lodge. Unlike Gold, they are not earned with roleplay, art, and writing, and are instead given as a reward for in-game accomplishments. Every item in the Ley Lodge shop costs 1 token.
Every Ley Token earned in Anathema is tracked in a separate sheet of the Bank, which can be accessed by clicking the 'Ley Token' tab at the bottom of this document!
There are three ways to earn Ley Tokens:
Corrupting a Mage
Earning 10 Points of Corruption and turning a mage character into a monster will earn a Ley Token for the mage's player. When a mage is fully corrupted, they are retired from the game and their player is rewarded with a Ley Token. Check out the Corrruption page for more information on corrupting your mage!
purchasing with gold
1,000 Gold can be exchanged for a Ley Token, if you decide not to corrupt a mage. To exchange 1,000 Gold for a Ley Token, send @Modmail a message on our Discord server.
anathema events
Special events and contests will occasionally be held to give Anathema players an opportunity to win a Ley Token!
using your token
If you have a Ley Token and you are ready to spend it, follow these instructions to exchange the token for one of the Ley Lodge items.
- Know what you'd like to use the token for. Check the lodge items tab for information on all the ways you can redeem a token, and think about what you'd like to create! The #ask-staff channels and @Modmail in our Discord server are always for questions and feedback on potential concepts. Feel free to run your idea by staff before committing your token to it!
- If creating a special type character, place your character's reference art on the appropriate special background template, and list your token in the character's log.
- Send staff a Modmail by sending a private message to the Modmail bot. In your message, tell us what item you'd like to redeem your token for, and what you'd like to do with it.
- If necessary, staff will work with you to refine your idea, and approve the new character, NPC, or event.
- Staff will mark your token as spent on the Bank document, and process your character application, if necessary.
Once a token is marked as spent, it can never be used again! Ley Tokens are not returned to you when you retire a character made with one. Spend your Ley Tokens wisely!
lodge items
Below, you will find a list of all the items available for puchase in the Ley Lodge. The price for each item is one Ley Token. Check out the Overview tab for more information on Tokens and how to earn them.
These items allow you to create special characters, NPCs, or in-game events. Read on to learn how they are used, and where they can be applied.
luminous plume
A Luminous Plume allows a player to create an Anathema event, swarm hunt, or Anathema NPC with admin guidance.
The effects of this item are varied, and can be discussed at the time of purchase, but essentially allow a player to directly add their ideas to a game-wide event prompt.
plume particulars
- Admin Apel will work directly with anyone who purchases this, to translate the player's ideas into a format that matches past Anathema events, hunts, etc!
- The player will be involved in concepting, creating, and launching the event, as well as choosing a date for reveal. Content will not be posted without the approval of both the player and the staff team.
- New content will be posted by the anathema_rpg staff account, with linked credit to the player.
- Once the event, hunt, or NPC is posted, it exists as part of Anathema forever, and cannot be controlled or removed by the player.
If you have questions about a potential use for a Luminous Plume, send staff a Modmail anytime! We are happy to discuss your ideas!
ruinous ichor
Ruinous Ichor allows for the creation of a Lich Mage. Liches are the wretched servants of Fortune, and feed on Corruption at terrible cost to themselves.
This item can create a new character (without a Summoning Circle), turn a regular Mage into a Lich, or turn a non-Mage into a Lich mage (without a Rite of Grace).
lich mage features
- Whenever a Lich earns a Corruption point, they also gain +2 Power, +2 Discipline, and +1 Cost. They still become monsters when 10 Corruption is reached.
- Liches are unable to reduce their Cost points at the Shrine of Destiny. They may still have their Cost lowered by Story Prompt rewards.
- Liches are unable to reduce their Corruption points at the Shrine of Destiny.
If you are creating a brand new character as a lich, or turning a non-mage into a lich: use the regular starting stats for your character's age and Background. You may apply a Pact of Fortune to a lich, with a separate purchase.
If you are turning an existing Mage into a lich, then you must edit their magic to adjust to the +2 Power, +2 Discipline and +1 Cost for each point of Corruption they have already accumulated, if any.
radiant chalice
A Radiant Chalice allows for the creation of a Paladin Mage. Paladins are righteous, powerful mages who resist Corruption.
This item can create a new character (without a Summoning Circle), turn a regular Mage into a Paladin, or turn a non-Mage into a Paladin mage (without a Rite of Grace).
paladin mage features
- Due to their ability to resist Corruption, a Paladin can earn up to 12 Corruption points before they are transformed into a monster. (Note: You may turn your character into a Monster at 10 points if you so choose, but it is not mandatory until they accumulate 12 Corruption)
- Whenever a Paladin gains a Power or Discipline stat point reward, the they gain an additional +1 in the same stat. For instance, if a Paladin is awarded +2 Power from a quest prompt, they actually claim +3 Power. This applies to Story Prompts and Shrine Quests, but not Stat Tokens.
- Paladins always have a starting Cost of 0.
If you are creating a brand new character as a paladin, or turning a non-mage into a paladin: use the regular starting stats for your character's age and Background, but with 0 Cost. You may apply a Pact of Fortune to a paladin, with a separate purchase.
If you are turning an existing Mage into a paladin, then you must edit their magic to add a point to any Power/Discipline stat rewards they've claimed, and change their starting Cost to 0. The only Cost your character should keep would be Cost accumulated by completing a Shrine Quest.
dented helm
A Dented Helm allows for the creation of a Veteran Mage. Veteran Mages are masters of magic, who have two separate innate magical abilities.
This item can create a new character (without a Summoning Circle), turn a regular Mage into a Veteran, or turn a non-Mage into a Veteran mage (without a Rite of Grace).
vetaran mage features
- A Veteran has two core magic abilities instead of one. The two magic abilities can be anything you like, and do not have to be related. These abilities are affected by the same stats, meaning your character still only has one Discipline score, one Power score, etc.
- A Veteran gets an additional +10 stat points at creation, to be distributed between Power, Discipline, and Corruption as the player chooses.
If you are creating a brand new character as a Veteran, or turning a non-mage into a Veteran: use the regular starting stats for your character's age and Background. You may apply a Pact of Fortune to a veteran, with a separate purchase.
If you are turning an existing Mage into a veteran, then you must add their new magic abilitiy to their profile, and distribute the +10 points between Power and Discipline only; a Dented Helm cannot add Corruption to an existing mage.
tattered banner
A tattered banner allows for the creation of a Legendary Character. Legendary characters are Mages or Non-mages whose deeds ring through history and are known across the continent, and whose arrival is announced to all of Anathema.
This item can create a new Non-mage or Mage (without a Summoning Circle), or turn a regular character into a Legendary Character. It does not turn non-Mages into Mages or vice versa. It CAN be combined with another special character type to create a Legendary Lich, a Legendary Paladin, etc.
Legendary character features
- Legendary characters are famous across Ivras for a reason of the player's choosing. It can be reasonably assumed that most characters and NPCs in the game would know, in-universe, who your character is and what notable thing they've done.
- When a Legendary character enters the game, their arrival will be announced by staff in the #announcements channel, and in that month's roundup bulletin.
- If appropriate, a Legendary character's deeds will be added to the Ivras Timeline. (Note: your character will be removed from the timeline if you leave Anathema or remove the character from the game without keeping them in the 'Past characters' folder)
- Legendary Mages do not need a Pact of Fortune to gain immortality.
There are some restrictions on what your character can be famous for: Your character cannot be a past ruler of Ivras, Siregal, or Nymene. They may however be the child of one, as long as they were not in consideration for leadership. Your character cannot claim a historical deed already done by a player character or NPC.
If you are creating a brand new Legendary character, or making an existing character Legendary: Add a brief description/blurb of what the average citizen would know about your character to the intro section of their profile. If using your own profile code, put this blurb somewhere prominent, where a reader would not need to click anything to find it.
shattered totem
A Shattered Totem allows for the creation of a Cursed Non-mage. Cursed characters are non-mages whose bodies have been permanently altered by a brush with magic.
This item can create a new Cursed non-mage, to curse a regular non-mage, or turn a Mage into a cursed non-mage (without a Rite of Grace).
cursed non-mage features
- Cursed non-mages have the same design guidelines as mages, including access to unnatural colors, magical elements, and additional body parts like wings.
- Cursed non-mages have access to Mages' limited free shapeshifting, as described below the Mage design guidelines, allowing for 'hippocampus' forms, color shifts, hiding wings, etc.
- Cursed non-mages can be immune to aging, and have extended, unnaturally long lifespans.
- Cursed non-mages still cannot use magic abilities or magic scrolls/amulets, and do not have stat points.
- Cursed non-mages do not need a Deep Mirror to change design or species upon becoming cursed.
If you are creating a brand new Cursed non-mage, or cursing an existing non-mage: place your character's reference art on the Cursed non-mage template, and explain what happened to make them look the way they do.
If you are turning an existing Mage into a cursed non-mage: add the loss of your character's magic to their history, and move their reference art to the Cursed non-mage template.
