THE MAGIA CULT

A since disbanded cult of non mages who believed that pairing with and being close to magic folk would grant them magical power.

Founded: 950

Whilst the cult has less of a following in the modern Irvatian day, in its prime, it had many members.

Located on the shores of Nymene in a place called The Ebon Stretch, many folks, mostly from Feudal and farming towns would camp along the coastal region. The Ebon Stretch was named for its black sandy shores. Many folk tales and legends said that the unique black sand was caused by a great magical beast slain on the shores, whose blood stained the sands forever and bones turned to rock.

Under the rule of the Iron Empress, Aris, and before her, King Pascal, many of Nymene’s peoples were kept in the dark on the realities and wonders of magic. Many feared and rejected it and only the select few who questioned, would find themselves in the arms of the Magia.

The Magia believed that if they were exposed to a mages power, by the namesake of the mirror bay, they too, would have magic reflected onto and into them, thus giving them powers and the ability to flee the kingdom to Namrast. Much to the benefit of Pascal and the rulers past, they watched with vested interest as many of the Magia lured and paired with wandering mages.

To the Magia, it meant that every pairing got them closer to salvation – but to the rulers of Nymene, they saw opportunity in export and a large and steady boom in mage births occurred. Many babes were exported to Namrast for political gain. Many wandering mages took advantage of this knowledge and travelled to Nymene often to sleep with the Magia, but also many positive partnerships did grow from this time as well.

Since 1225, activity of The Magia had mostly subsided, with very few members remaining. With the recent unrest and constant resurgence of corrupted monsters, those who lack a proper understanding of the realities of magic still remain in the cult, hoping for a step closer to freedom.

• Your character can be conceived within this cult should they wish to.

• Should you wish to, your character could have been given the Magia Collar, see Keita Archijd's reference for information. This is a univerally recognised symbol that a child was born of the cult.

• y. 1172 was the largest known exportation of children to Namrast. There were likely others before and after, but none as notable as that year.

• Your character would have most likely had a fairly dreary upbringing and no monetary wealth. Many of the children kept themselves occupied and once they were able to fend for themselves, were often cast out or urged to independence to allow the next pregnancy.

• Your character would have been transported to Namrast via a large ship. Clusters of about ten to twenty children would have been shipped at a time.

• The majority of structures within the cult were all tents, some were nestled in protection by caves along the stretch.

• Please see The Ebon Stretch page for more information on setting.
