As the bane of the setting sun slunk into the peaks of structures, the city of veils was not preparing for its slumber, no. Perhaps for the young children whose mother chided them for bed in preparation for the next day, yet for those aged, the night was yet to begin. Even more so, the time of the Feast of Flowering. Like many mages and those who studied The Order, Kumiho tended to be somewhat of skeptic of the patrons. Certainly not an outright denial, but a part of him lay unconvinced. Because he himself possessed divine, inexplicable abilities, if there was one to rely on, he thought of it as himself. Nevertheless, he trotted calmly along a corner to a small Destiny shrine a merchant had set up. The lithe stallion had found it somewhat cumbersome himself to build his own shrine, nor would he find distinct value in it, but he opted to give something at least. Destiny, ever fickle, ever rewarding. He couldn't resist a small chance of being in her favor.

Arching his neck to open his satchel with his teeth, he shot a fleeting , handsome grin at the merchant. Some kind of suid that one was. Most animals didn't mind others contributing to their shrine much, many saw it as the good fortune going both ways. Gripping a single coin between his white teeth, he dropped into a small basket within the miniature shrine. Inside it were some apples, and the coin disappeared into the space between two red ones. Then turning, he continued along, back into the bustling crowd, lanterns illuminating the streets and stalls.

The smells of food had grabbed her attention after the maypole. The fabrics also did with their vibrant colors. Her eyes were wide with wonder more than her stomach's growl which was very soft. However, she saw something she didn't have - those round gold things like the sun. Her magic would be able to fix that but she didn't want to feel guilty after. With a rare frown, she thought of what she could do. Perhaps ask if they could trade? Perhaps not since every single stall had a basket, each piled up in different assortment of those round things.

"Hey, you there! Yu're scaring ma customers! Get a move on it already!" She didn't hear them until they stepped in front of her. "Did ya hear me? MOVE I- what in the?! What is wrong with yur face?! Get away!" Pocus turned her head to see who he was talking to but there was no one who looked like their face was injured. "I don't see anyone. Oh, did I accidentally make something -" "It's you! Not anyone else behind yu! Go on, get outta here!"

"Hm? Why? I didn't do anything wrong." "Step away from ma stall now!" Pocus cringed at the volume before glaring at them, her already terrifying appearance was now even more intimidating that it made the one before her squeak. "I've done nothing to harm you. So please don't talk so loudly, I'm right here in front of you. I can hear just fine."

Kumiho absently pricked his ears at some loud voices as he looked over some glimmering jewelry another merchant was attempting to appease him with. The stallion instead gave her a relaxed smile, and shook his head lightly, as in a gesture of "not today". He turned to head to glance over at the noise, some kind of commotion. A large, white bison stood over a glowing animal. The bison was a hefty guy, gnarled hazel horns curving upwards from his huge head. And the animal.. a mage. Kumiho frowned. Kumiho had seen many, many mages, though mostly in Namarast, and he's glimpsed a few in Faline. But if he were being completely honest, this one looked kind of freaky. Tendrils of blue wrapped around her forelegs and face, shrouding her eyes. Was that.. parts of her skeleton visible through her sides. Kumiho squinted, then narrowed his eyes,

'Oh, Destiny..' Kumiho thought to himself as he caught sight of the mage, (a doe, he could now see) regaining her composure and glaring angrily at the shopkeeper. Assuming she'd gone through The Order, Kumiho raised his eyebrow at her. Wasn't it a specific rule hammered into each mage that they should lie low in front of  non-mages in order to not give the arcane a worse rap? It wasn't abundantly obvious that Kumiho himself was a mage, but widespread public fear of magic wouldn't be a good thing for him regardless. Before things could escalate further, Kumiho stepped in, his slender head between the stern mage and the now cowering bison.

Turning his back to the doe, Kumiho turned to look at the white bison, and leaned a front leg casually against the bison's. The bison's foreleg was just as woolly as the bushy fur on the bovidae's chest and head. Locking eyes with the bison, with a smile almost too bright, he began to speak. "Look fella, the girl didn't mean anything, right? Why don't we just go on with our night?" The stone bison's expression of fear and distrust slowly faded as Kumiho let his words sink in and maintained eye contact. The bison gave one last uneasy look at the mage doe, but turned back around to mind his stall.

As he watched him leave, the fine boned equine twisted his head to look over at the mage, the crowd dissipating from commotion. Eyes sparkling, Kumiho grinned charismatically at the doe, though there was a hint of sternness behind it. Though his muscles ached, and fatigue clouded his vision slightly, his voice remained steady.  "Next time it may be better to lie low, comrade."

For once, Pocus was feeling annoyed. She didn't like this emotion but the silly creature before her was being - well, silly! Then someone stepped between her and the one who had told her to leave. That was odd was how they spoke to the white furry creature and just like that, they went their merry way without trouble. Only moments before he - ah. Magic. Pocus knew of this kind for some of her family had it and she had heard many tales, both good and bad, where it was used. She peered curiously at them, her suspicious look growing as he grinned at her. What she didn't expect was being told she had to lie low.

"Huh? Why lie low?" Blinking, realizing her train of thought was shifted away from her real question, she shook her head. "Wait no, why did you do that? You used magic on him, didn't you?" Her rare frown of disappoint was on full display.

Though he kept his expression as composed and charming as before, his ear twitched tiredly. "If I may voice a preference, I believe you'd know it's a much easier way to live in a place such as Faline without the citizens here knowing that the actor Kumiho is a," he dropped his voice is a collected mumble, "-mage." Thankfully, the drumming of loud conversation had resumed among the crowds so the doe's outright statement hadn't been heard by any others.

Kumiho tossed his center tail thoughtfully, the gleaming white hairs catching firelight cast from the lanterns above, illuminating the tips of his pointed ears. He arched his dished profile, observing the much taller doe intently. Abruptly, he turned around, and beckoned for her to follow him.

He knew it was wise for her to be hesitant at this point, but Kumiho was somewhat quizzical about this one. From an intuitive standpoint, he didn't see The Order's ways on her.

None of this made sense to Pocus for she had come from another place. Faline? Kumiho? Actor? Who, what? Pocus blinked confusedly. "...What? Who are those...things you said. What's a mage?" As always, Pocus didn't pay any mind to the crowds around her. The movement behind him grabbed her attention. Tails in threes? Now that was new, even to her! "Three...?" she muttered to herself. The male then turned, signaling to her to...follow? It was similar to what some of her friends did back home. Only this guy wasn't her friend.

Shaking her head, Pocus began to wander away from him. She wasn't going to follow some stranger who spoke odd words to her and tell her to "lie low" when she did nothing wrong.

When he realized she had begun to float away, Kumiho sighed and flattened his ears for a moment. She was still within earshot, so he really didn't have to raise his voice much. "I really think you ought to come with me." He'd kind of expected this now from what he'd observed from this doe so far, but it was rather weird that she hadn't been snatched up by The Order so far. The stallion himself was mostly normal looking (he told people that he had three tails because his mother had been cursed when she was expecting), but wouldn't have some mage teachers wandering around have spotted her by now?

Well clearly she didn't even know what a mage was, so the answer was no.

There was no way she was going to go with a stranger. Pocus shook her head while looking at the stalls coming up to her. "I'm not going anywhere with you, now take your own advice and just go on with your night." Her once happy tone was now threatening, the light flowing out of her pupils became jagged a little before it went back to normal. She had unleashed no magic but if this suspicious fellow kept on trying to get her to do his bidding, she wasn't going to hestitate.

The smell from a stall caught her attention and her expression flipped on the fly, a happy smile now there in replacement as she bounded toward the stall. The poor sheep in the stall shrieked. "Oh my word. Wh-What has happened to you?!" It seemed like creatures here didn't like her appearance so without missing a beat, she came up with a teensy whole big lie."Just illusion magic, no biggie." The sheep stuttered but bought it. "Um, may I interest you in some pies then?"

He squinted at her, pink nostrils flaring slightly. Kumiho was patient, but immaturity was something else altogether. As he stood, a thought struck him. What was he even trying to achieve. He tossed his head, the tassels of his headpiece swaying. She could get snatched up for all he cared, the equine had better things to do anyway.

Sure, he could use his enchantment to make her listen to what he had to say, but he didn't even know her, and neither did most of the folk know he was like her.
