It is a beacon, of sorts. Wrought iron and bronze nails bloom from a backdrop of partly rotted wood, a field of opportunity if only one would look. Parchment layers the board, some broken down by time, others clean and sturdy with youth. The notice board is as old as time, has weathered storm after damning storm, and still it stands - calling, beckoning to employer and employee alike.
It is a place to find what you are looking for ( coin, fame, purpose ), and it is a place to lose everything you have. And so you step forward, hands itching with the possibility. You pull a paper from its nail, willing to take the gamble.
for paid work
Heroes Wanted is a series of “choose your own adventure” quests hosted by myself! They run similar to dungeon crawls, or short play-by-post DnD one-shots. For the most part, they are independent of one another and have little requirements. Various jobs are posted with a wide assortment of work ( simple recovery work, to hired guns ), and a wide range of difficulty.
I have no set schedule for these, and they’ll simply be posted as I think of them/am prepared to run one! Each have their own rewards for participation, and often offer extra hidden bonuses should your characters discover them. Please note that most, if not all of these, will be run in human AUs! Your character does not require a submitted human application to participate. Your character is also not required to be a mage!
how it works
After sign-ups are posted and completed ( if there is more interest than there is slots, I'll randomize to pick my players. Each job will have their own “requirements” to them ), a thread will be posted in the appropriate setting. The DM ( usually myself ) sets the scene, and we follow a loose posting order afterward.
You are welcome to respond however you’d like, be that in script RP ( one or two sentences ), or full blown multi paragraph replies. However, please consider that these are meant to be started and finished in a relatively timely manner! So while there is absolutely no pressure or rush, reply with what will keep you from burning out ( if you don’t think you can make multiple huge RP posts without losing the muse, don’t try to! You get gold either way just for participating <3 )
In the interest of keeping things streamline, there is currently no rolling involved on the player’s part! For the most part, the job is narratively driven. Occasionally you will attempt an action that will need to be rolled for. I - the DM - will roll before I post my response. This will be done in a public channel, with possible outcomes laid out previously in an effort to be transparent! Generally, these rolled events only have two outcomes: success, and failure.
Failures are often dangerous, and result in the loss of HP. When a character is reduced to 0 HP, they are considered incapciated or otherwise unable to continue on ( why exactly may be dictated by the player ).
HP calculation is simple:
- Characters 19 and under: 2 HP
- Characters 20 - 69: 3 HP
- Characters 69+: 2 HP
- Immortals: 3 HP
Characters with healing properties are allowed to return a single HP to a single player during a job!
