16. Dark secrets/’skeletons in the closet’
Yenunu's not great at dealing with her anger in ways other than violence, so when she tips too far, bad things happen. There was a forest fire on Keron which started because Yenunu had a particularly bad day, and took it out in the woods. Her parents figured it out, but collectively they kept this information a secret as to not hurt military standing among the family. She still hasn't gotten therapy.
17. Regrets
She regrets not setting aside time around academy work to spend time with her father in the short times he was home. It was a harsh lesson that things happen, and you never know when you're going to lose someone you care about. She sometimes dwells on 'what ifs' where she never went to the academy at all; even if she couldn't stop her father's death, she could have spent that much more time with him.
22. People who’ve influenced them greatly
It's a well established fact that Yenunu's parents are her heroes. She wanted to be powerful like her mother, and she wanted to be in the military serving her people like her father; and so she shaped her whole life around that.
But when she lost her father, her platoon leader Acaca became a new positive influence, though she refuses to let him know that. He's a grounding presence when she desperately needed one, even if his positivity is absolutely aggravating to her. Learning that someone other than her parents can depend on her personally, and believe in her deeply, was kind of a ground breaking realization to her.
