(I hope you don't mind that I might've played her a little. I tried to keep her in character the best I could.)
Preparing to practice again with the circus that afternoon, Charlie had gone out early. It was one of those unusually well-weather mornings, and he felt in higher spirits than he usually did. Not long after stopping to entertain some small, similarly humble-looking kids who cheered and pointed as he did a mid-air spin, he was distractedly drawn to a sweet smell from a smaller shop. It looked nice, if a little out of place. Dropping to the ground, he approached a sharp-leaved plant with striking red blossoms in between other bright flowers on a rack outside. Without even checking if anyone was watching him, he tipped it slightly towards him and drew his face close, giving an inquisitive sniff.
A few seconds later, the shop bell rang and he turned with a start as he heard a soft voice directed at him. For a moment he just stared back with widened eyes, still holding the plant. Beside him was a small woman who appeared to be older than him at least. Something about her long hair and unique eyes held him there for a moment like a fish caught on a hook, but he'd notice as well how wealthy she appeared.
Quickly he pulled the plant back into place. "Oh, uh- sorry." Charlie felt a little embarrassed at first, but she replied forgivingly. He couldn't help but feel oddly comfortable around this stranger, and they exchanged words for a while. He told her a little about the circus and happened to mention his brother off-handedly, something that made her curious.
"... Fred, he's my little brother. Well, in a way- that's how I see him. He's a very kind child; very happy."
For a moment his tone lowered a bit, and the woman seemed confused. He rarely told anyone about his brother's condition, especially not someone wealthy. Begging was not his way. And yet, the words came out of him before he could stop himself.
"The thing is, he's awful sick. He's been that way for... I don't even know how long. I wish I could do something, but the treatment's expensive." Charlie shrugged, "I try my best with the circus, but it can be stressful sometimes."
He glanced down for a moment. To him, that was very personal. Somehow, it felt easier talking about it with a stranger. After hearing her reply, he turned his gaze towards her.
"Um, thanks... That helps a lot."
Slowly he reached forward and gave her a hug, bending down just a little to better wrap his arms around her. He held himself back a little so it wasn't all that tight, and she seemed notably unsurprised by his move. For a moment nothing was said until he quickly backed away, suddenly feeling a little awkward.
"I should get moving." He spoke, feeling her gaze follow him as he leaped into the sky and fluttered away. On one hand he felt like he might've given too much away just now, especially for a stranger, but on the other he couldn't help but want to see her again at least some day. There was something so strikingly generous about her. All the while, however, he had no idea what he'd truly witnessed then...
