General Thread for PSAs

Posted 8 years, 1 month ago (Edited 5 years, 7 months ago) by Vespisia

Hello!

8/9: New PSA added.

5/14: 2 new PSAs added.

4/8: New PSA posted and additional information on Squidribs added to relevant PSA.

It was suggested that there should perhaps be a general thread for PSAs which is a fine idea. A place that links to other PSAs and keep things organized.
You can link your threads/PSAs/etc, and I'll add them to the posts. :D
Please Note: I can only accept public PSAs. Anon PSAs are too much of a risk to accept, as they can be open to slander.

Things That Count for PSAs!
-Scams
-Illegally chargebacked (you did a commission, but person claims you never did, for instance)
-Being shifty on doing owed things (taking months on an icon for example, lack of contact or updates, etc)
-Tracing and profiting off of it...
-Etc...

Things That Don't Count!
-Someone has better art than you
-Rude behavior
-Subjective issues
-Dog ate your homework

Obviously, this is just the basic frame work. Each case is different. For instance, someone could go around harassing artists for art and customs, or for people to give up their adopts and whatnot, and that could almost certainly be considered for a PSA...

Of course, it would be great if no more PSAs occur, but in the case they do, I support people posting them because they keep the community safe and will link to them in this general thread. owo/

There'll be two posts, one for PSAs and one for resolved cases! ^^

vinnocent i don’t know alfred’s playhouse or your boyfriend, so may i ask what’s wrong with them?

orphan As much, I don't know either of them either, on the other hand, when I type "alfred's playhouse" on google, I see that:image.png

orphan alfreds playhouse is an old flash animated series about a dog that is filled to the brim with.. jokes? about sexual assault and traumatization (reportedly vents by the creator but its very very gratuitous)- a lot of the drama comes from the main character having a bastardization of DID where he has an evil nazi alter, representative of the creators own apparent nazism which is a whole separate can of worms (and a necrophile alter, one of the bits of content features many very explicit scenes showing it off). its generally like.. old shock horror full of bad taste stuff like that and with the creators own problems its hard to separate them

^^ everybody above got the explanation out much faster than i did, but yes, that sums it up really well and quickly on both.

to sum things up under a spoiler for both as the subjects contained in both series might be triggering; tw/cw for mentions of s/h, s/a, n@zi imagery under the spoiler, YBF is summarized at the bottom.

i’ll start with alfred’s playhouse. while i’ve seen a bit of debate on whether or not it is a “vent show” created by emily youcis, it’s still a very disturbing piece of media that likely shouldn’t have been shared on the internet in the first place. the series main character is a dog named alfred, and while i haven’t watched it, i have been unfortunate enough to see clips of the series posted on tiktok without warning. one summary states; “The series is about a traumatized, mentally ill dog named Alfred Alfer, who tries to forget about his abusive childhood by imagining himself in a happy fantasy world.” so take that as the theme. now, i am totally alright with the creation of artwork as a vent outlet. that’s awesome, good for you, but i think the issue with AP lies in the fandom and imagery that was published to the internet. the biggest issues i’ve seen people voice on have been the uncensored self harm imagery + blood, blatant imagery of rape happening to said canine main character, a nazi character named “dictator pickles” (which has spawned multiple people creating alter-egos of their “alfredsonas” that are, you guessed it, reeking of nazi imagery and values,) the way that the entire “show” is written as a whole. i’m trying to cut down on this text, but that’s the general issue people have with it. while i’m not going to give any examples of the blood or self harm imagery, here is a prime example of the nazi imagery shown in this web…thing. in all, the issue with the user recreating an animation of this is that the artwork CANNOT be separated from its source. despite having being labeled as a vent show by some, the depictions and constant negative personification/demonification of DID (shown as “dictator pickles,) imagery of necrophilia and the constant tone of playing off self harm and sexual assault as something to be joked about or otherwise simply to be used as “shock horror” has gained the show (and it’s fans) a rightfully awful reputation. c89c9cb9e56253891ea8bc3e282ac4b8.png

as for “your boyfriend,” the game is about a guy named peter who stalks you, the player, in an extremely obsessive manner. making fanart or videos of the character is a bit strange considering his behaviors, but similar to AP, the game has gained a decent fandom since it’s high point on social media.

Heyo- So basically I am having an issue with a potential ("potential" as in no confirmation on me starting the commission nor have they payed) commission client and I need some advice? It probably isn't PSA worthy, but I am hesitant on how to proceed with the situation I got on hand-

You can let me know or DM me to give advice, thank you!

(In which by the way I don't want to make this public or anything, so that's why I want to be Dm'ed)

EDIT: Got advice!

YENAMADARABA

Yo so like? I need a tad bit of counsel about a situation I'm undergoing and I THINK I'm being scammed

Story goes as follows:

I commission someone sometime in August, I pay them fully upfront. The commission post says the turn around time is one week at most and since I ordered three I'm like "Ok it'll take around a month". A month passes with no talk from the person I commissioned, so I ask for a little update. I don't get a reply, you can probably see what's coming but it's been four months and still haven't gotten a single reply after I paid for the commission. I've sent 5 messages and I know the person I'm commissioning has been online, checking their stats they logged in less than a week ago and they posted art less than a month ago so-even if they're not active-they've been on th in the four months I've been asking about my commission? Four months isn't too long imo, I'm cool with waiting as long as a commission needs, but I've gotten no updates or any kind of communication at all? They've just stopped talking to me after I sent the money so I'm kinda like? Am I being scammed cuz it feels like a scam  X_X

I can provide screenshots as well!
