Hey everyone. Recently, I was in a situation concerning PayPal fees that left me salty.
So, being salty, I posted a PSA on my Toyhou.se bulletins.
Then, being even saltier, I updated and moved my PayPal Tutorial (used to be on dA) which I am here to share with you today!
Before I get started, I would like to just address PayPal Fees.
It goes against PayPal's User Agreement to charge |
International Transactions Please be aware that as of late 2016, PayPal has installed auto-currency exchange. Please refer to my guide on Weebly on how to deal with it. Please check in with people you are buying from outside the country if they want their money in USd or their home-currency. ALSO, fees are higher than normal fees when sending abroad. |
Transaction Fees |
DO'S | DONT'S |
|
|
Note: If you were someone that added an extra dollar or more when sending money, that can be considered a "tip." You put extra money onto the transaction out of your own volition. No one asked you to do so. If the seller did ask you to cover the fees, then they are violating PayPal's User Agreement which you, under no circumstance, should be covering the fees. |
PLEASE IGNORE THE FACT IT'S ON MY SPECIES WEEBLY.
IT'S EASIER TO MANAGE THAN MAKING A SEPARATE WEEBLY. LOL
Thanks for taking a read!
Feel free to critique, corret, and comment below!
I need the feedback. :')

I have no problem with paying the fee when commissionning an artist. I'm the buyer, I'm supposed to pay the price so that the artist gets the money, I see no problem with this.
And when I'm selling, I may increase my prices to include the fee. If I sell some headshot for 1$, I end up only getting like 50c, so I would rather ask for 1$50 instead.... I don't see much how this is wrong? How can you ever know whether the fee is included in the price or not ?
What I dislike is when the fee is added afterwards. I once bought a commission for 3$, but actually had to pay 3$75, and I was like "wat? but...the price....".
But if I know the "full" price right away (when the fee is directly included into the original price), then I don't mind at all. Artists can price their art the way they want anyway.
Meiji - I been there with you. :( If it happens, feel free to link them this PSA so you don't have to exhaust yourself from explaining to them.
@Operia - Same here. I go to commissions and see they want me to pay the fee and I just walk away. :C And definitely avoid the family/friends even if it is a super close friend and you don't want them to get fee'd. Cause you never know when it comes to money comes between friends (ugly things happen).
Seiden - It's wrong simply by violating PayPal's User Agreement.
You can voluntarily add extra money into your purchase as a "tip." But if someone asks you to pay the fee, you shouldn't be held responsible for it.
And as heaven pointed out, you will know if it's a fee included with the random cents tacked on.
heaven - I'm going to be nit-picky here as we should refer to this as a "fee" and not a "tax". PayPal declares their fee is not a tax under this clause:
There is more to this clause but I didn't screenshot the whole thing.
Again it is a fee for using its platform just like any store you swipe a card at. Or an ATM machine that takes some money out for withdrawing money. It's just a fee for using their services.
I am aware someone else said "tax" here instead of fee and I didn't realize until now. OTL;;
