An idea borrowed from PHB and PuppyToast. A daily writing challenge with a character and an emotion. A way to stay in practice and to explore characters and emotions. These are probably going to be more spotty now as I try to focus my creativity on other things.

Author's Notes

Character: Maja (ft. Genevieve and Serena)
Emotion: Apprehensive
Why I wrote this scene: Also not a random roll, Maja meets Genevieve and Serena's baby for the first time.

2019-07-04 - Maja/Apprehension

Maja paced outside the queen's chambers with a hand on her chin.
"Lady Maja, we appreciate your presence, but if you would like a place to sit..." said Seph du Allard, Captain of the Royal Guard. Maja glanced at him.
"Sit? No, I'm alright. I'm alright." She shook her head and continued pacing. Seph sighed.
"I am certain Serena will be alright..."
"Oh, certainly. Certainly." said Maja with a nod. The pale captain's lips tightened.
"Have you ever witnessed a birth before?"
"What? Me?" Maja stopped. "Well, there were... plenty, back at my home. But I never exactly... witnessed them."
"Then perhaps you should find a place to rest, and wait for the good word about-"
"No, no, I'm fine. I'm just..."
"Anxiously pacing outside of the queen's chambers?" It occurred to Maja that he was irritated with her, and she stopped pacing to look at him. "There are midwives present. I am certain Genevieve is anxious enough herself. Please, take a moment to relax, and I will inform you when the baby is born."
"But what if-"
"What could you possibly do to help? I am not trying to sound harsh, Maja, but you know I'm right. It would be better to-" The door opened and Renée peered out.
"Oh, you're both here! She's sleeping now, but you can come see her if you want." she said. Seph and Maja both stared at her.
"Then it is-?"
"It went very well. Serena is fine, just exhausted. We just didn't want to bother you until things had calmed down a bit." said Renée. "Come and see!" Seph and Maja looked at each other now.
"After you, my lady." he said with a bow. Renée widened the door and Maja stepped in.

"Maja." said Genevieve, who was sitting on the edge of the bed next to Serena. She looked as though she hadn't slept, and Serena - well, she looked like a woman who'd just given birth. She was cradling a bundle of cloth in her arms.
"Hey." said Maja. "How are you two doing?"
"Serena is well, though my daughter could do with some more sleep." Madeline was their midwife, her apron dirty and her hands in a towel. She seemed tired as well, but relieved.
"How long have you been outside?" asked Genevieve.
"I-I mean- I heard you were-"
"An hour at least." called Seph from outside. Renée chuckled and closed the door.
"Really? An hour?" Genevieve was surprised. "We appreciate your concern, but... why?"
"I just... was worried..." Maja fumbled for words. She sighed. "I don't know, really. I was just... really worried about you two. I can't explain it." Serena gave her a warm smile.
"I'm really glad you're here." she said softly. "Do you want to see her?"
"A-are you sure? You're still-"
"I'm alright. She's alright too." Serena looked down at the baby with a fond smile. Maja stepped closer and Genevieve moved aside to let her look. The baby had the same olive skin as her mother, sleeping soundly in her arms.
"She's adorable." said Maja softly. "Do you have a name for her yet?"
"We decided a long time ago, actually." said Genevieve.
"Her name is Estelle." said Serena. Maja smiled.
"Welcome to Gaia, Estelle."
