Visit to a Pixie World

Their arrival in UcaeQi, a lively city located on the Pixie world of Jii-Wrn, would be the first time some of the crew has ever been within the Pixan Empire, and what a lovely place to serve as that introduction; The Koy was parked on top of a tall platform that made up the dock, and not too long after the heavily modified transport ship landed several of its inhabitants walked down the ramp of the cargo bay to take in the view.

The city was filled with skyscrapers lined with pulsating neon light, nearly blinding to the unaccustomed.  It seemed that not even a single space would be dulled by shadows as the light-filled every crevice of the large city with its own sort of objectively harsh presence. As day turns to night the lights would change colors and intensity so that in whatever weather during whatever time of day, the city would look absolutely brilliant. The structure of the buildings was productive, yet modern, as no form of aesthetic choice could outweigh the need for them to be sound and efficient.

The sheer amount of colored light was astounding to any non-pixie visitor and was generally the stylistic choice associated with the Pixies along with the terms modern, sleek, colorful, and pristine often thrown around.

P’Tel lead Avvor out onto the deck and tried his best to look out at the skyline, but ran into the expected issue of just how bright it was. He wanted to take it all in, as it was stunning, but just trying strained his eyes. His dog-sized, velociraptor-esque companion seemed less interested in the city and more so in the platform, as she was scratching at the metal flooring as soon as she was able. Behind the onixar doctor was Tziron, who  had a similar reaction of, ‘Yep that's bright.’ Unlike P’Tel he has been on a pixie world, but only for a short time, and even then he wasn’t allowed to wander around the city.

He was nowhere near as starstruck by the city for a few reasons. He wasn’t overly fond of the modern overly colorful neon, and much preferred his own people’s architecture and style.

It could be described as a bit archaic, or antique, with careful engravings and designs. It could be compared to the ancient human city of Rome, in which the buildings may be old and not the most efficient, but still timeless, resilient, and remembered by history. The Humans eventually moved away from such things and took a more pixie approach, with glass skyscrapers and all, and it may be assumed that the onixars will do the same... or maybe not. Their future was generally regarded as quite unpredictable, as it seems that little to no change was taking place. Maybe they could find a way to merge modern efficiency with elegant antiquity. Only the passage of time may tell.

Aside from the stylistic differences that failed to impress the translator, it also could be that he simply doesn’t get much of the colors and designs. Being colorblind could very well be a factor in his distaste for the colorful city, as many of the intended colors just don’t register to him.

Theo hopped out of the ship and looked around for a moment with a smile, “...Yep. It’s really fuckin’ bright.” Pretty much just how she remembered the Pixie cities. The programmer was an odd one, that was for sure; half pixie, and half- well, she always referred to the rest of her heritage as being demonic, but there were a bunch of different kinds of such creatures, most of which, but apparently not all, residing- or rather, previously residing- on Earth.

The light seemed to not have the same effects on her as for most pixies. For them, light is a source of energy, a way around having to consume actual food for sustenance. It also- to quote Gear- "Makes our wings look more beautiful." Theo, however, was an exception, as instead of being able to manipulate light she can manipulate shadows. Light didn’t cause her any harm, but it didn’t help her in the least. Just like for the others it was an inconvenience, and might ever so slightly reduce the effectiveness of her abilities. That was about all; as for whether she enjoyed the cities... not so much. She preferred back allies and dim stations. It’s much easier to, say, rob casinos or cheat at cards in such a place. She never was very pixie like, and really seemed to enjoy the old human ways of thinking, along with some of their general fashion and art. A pre-reset human might call her a bit of a ‘Steampunk-Hipster.’

Mora twirled out in the open, chiming in with a much more upbeat, “The weather is soo~ nice!” Seeing the seer’s cheerful mood prompted P’Tel to smile, though he did not at all agree with the statement. Like most Pixie worlds, Jii-Wrn sports a mostly hot and humid climate with many tropical forests, often surrounding the grand cities of light. Here wasn’t the worst possible place as they could be much closer to the equator, but it wasn’t exactly comfortable for P’Tel, who grew up on a world blanketed in more snow than this world has probably gotten in five years. The crisp, chilled atmosphere and gray clouds were what he was used to rather than this crystal clear blue day-time sky and this feeling that with every breath his lungs were taking in hot soup.

Tziron had about the same opinion on the matter but understood that it could always be worse than even this. After all, at least it’s not a fickle desert port whose weather changes with the time of day.

“Agreed.” Gear responded to Mora, though was a lot more level-headed about it. With him, he had a few pairs of specialized shades for the non-pixies... and Theo. He walked over to Tziron and handed him one, notably a very specific pair. They had been ordered specifically for the translator, who was farsighted and wore glasses for it. Trying to wear both his frames and these would have proven difficult, and quite silly, so Vena had made sure to arrange things for him despite how amusing it might have been for the others to witness his struggle. Tziron nodded slightly and took off his own glasses and replaced them with these shades. Ah. Much nicer, now he can actually see without being blinded.

Gear handed these out to Theo and P’Tel as well, then knelt down next to Avvor to help with some specialized goggles for her. She wasn’t too pleased with a thing being put on her face, but a quick command from P’Tel caused her to stay still. Gear eventually got the goggles on and patted her on the head for staying still. She made a slightly annoyed low pitched chirping sound but continued to stay seated, lest trying to get these things off end up getting her into trouble.

“Wow…” P’Tel muttered once he got the shades on. The city was brilliant... it certainly put anything his people have crafted to shame. Theo, who had overheard his astounded murmur, simply shrugged and replied, “It’s really not as great as it seems.”
“So, now we wait for Eryx and Vena.” Gear announced to the others, though it seems that only Tziron had heard him.

The Koy's pilot wanted nothing to do with the pixie world, so instead pretended to be doing something actually important. Within his room sitting on his bed, Eryx just messed with his tablet. He could write something, or maybe draw, or read, but he had no desire to do any of that so he ended up just staring at the screen and swiping a menu back and forth. That is until a few knocks at the door interrupted his boredom induced menu swiping pattern. He stood to answer it, assuming that it would be... yep, Vena. He immediately responded with a potentially rude, “I assume you’re trying to drag me off the ship and out into the city so that I can join the rest of the crew in your pixie world adventure?”

The ten-year-old quickly replied with, “No, I’m dragging you with us because if you don’t come I have to stay, so here, put these on.” She handed him the final pair of shades, which he immediately began investigating, “Now put me on your back and we can go~”
“Are you sure that I- Umm, no, you can walk Vena…”
“You're coming with me and I’m getting a ride back cause I’m 10 and ran here.”
Eryx sighed, “Fine, I’ll go with you, but I am not carrying you, as it was your decision to appear like a ten-year-old.”
Vena pouted. “You're no fun.” She floated in the air and dragged him along down the hallway.

After a little way with no incident, the childish heir phased through Eryx and jumped onto his back, saying in a happy tone, “Oh hi~!”
Eryx instantly stopped walking and forced himself to not dump her onto the floor. ”Vena…” he grumbled in a rightfully aggravated tone.
“Yes Eryx?” She replied so very innocently.
“Get off, this is no way for the captain of a ship to act…”

His request was completely ignored, as the little girl was soon replaced by a shapely 16-year-old. “’I'm not just the ship’s captain you know, and all I wanted was a piggyback. I’m not that heavy…am I?”
“No, No you’re not, but that doesn't justify this behavior.” Eryx tried to shake her off lightly. Gah, this was getting really obnoxious.
“Oh come on, if you take me outside it’ll be over and done with”
“No. now seriously, get off.”
Vena let go and dropped to the ground, becoming the ten-year-old once more. “You’re no fun...” she complained sadly.
Eryx had to keep himself from responding with some rude comment like, ‘Yes, and you are annoying’, and to assist with keeping his mouth shut he started to walk off to the cargo bay. He didn’t get very far down the hallway when Vena held his hand and walked alongside him. He pulled his hand away without even a glance at the heir, and probably for the better. She seemed visually hurt by such a simple action and kept to herself for the rest of the trip to the cargo bay.

As they walked out onto the deck an interesting scene was laid before them-
Gear and Theo had grabbed Tziron and threatened to throw him off the edge of the building, both seeming in a much better mood about it than the translator. It seems that Vhettl had joined them, and happily stood nearby. P’Tel meanwhile only now glanced over to this confusing scene, muttering something to himself.

Gear chucked Tziron off the edge, but Theo slipped and fell over with him only muttering a regretful, “Shit,” while Tziron was far more concerned over, you know, falling from this ridiculous height and all.

“...Is this really what happens when Vena leaves for five minutes??” Eryx mumbled, looking on. He wasn’t too concerned about Tziron or Theo, since Theo can fly and surely they would have set something up…Right?

Gear turned towards P’Tel with a pleased smile, a red shimmery light surrounding him ever so slightly.”Come on.” he said as if being thrown off of rooftops was mandatory.

“Ah, no.” The doctor shook his head slightly. Avvor sat next to him on the leash, chirping at Gear. Sadly, P’Tel wasn’t actually getting a choice in the matter as Gear ran up behind him in an attempt to pick him up. P’Tel moved out of the way, letting go of Avvor’s leash in the process. The little raptor bounded away for a few steps and made a half-assed attempt to snarl at Gear. It wasn’t exactly very threatening. The enforcer simply flew over Avvor and tackled P’Tel off the edge.

Theo finally made her way back, her black and purple wings deeply contrasting the rest of the city. In her arms was a less than pleased Tziron. She landed on the edge of the platform just as Gear and P’Tel went over, gaining a passing glance from the both of them.

“Oh come on Eryx, have a bit of fun. Even Koy’s not this stiff.” Vena poked at Eryx, but received only a look. Mora meanwhile was laughing at it all with Vhettl, who as content to just watch from a distance.

P’Tel and Gear fell over the edge for a bit, one laughing his ass off about it and the other yelling unintelligible nonsense.
Eventually, Gear brought out his wings and caught the doctor, who was still yelling at the enforcer. The yelling went ignored, and they soon joined the others on the dock.

Tziron politely requested an answer as to what all of that was for, while P’Tell decided to yell at them for the same information. Avvor ran over to her owner's side.
Gear just smiled and yelled, “Welcome to UcaeQi!!"
“That is not an answer,” P’Tel grumbled.
“Alright, fine,” Gear began, “It’s sort an enforcer... no, wait. It’s just a pixie thing, we do it to non-pixies for fun.”
Tziron muttered a single, “Oh,” before adjusting his shades.
P'Tel continued: “Well it isn't exactly fun for us.”
“Nope.” Theo said with a grin.
