A Cave Bear - Hunt

Legend was finally free from his punishment, free to go out with the hunting team and do what he loved most, hunt. It had been two weeks since the fox hunt where he was dragged back in shame by the hunting team for sneaking out and trying to steal the fox the hunting team had caught. This would be his first hunt after his punishment, and he was very excited. Fable was just glad that he would no longer be moping around and complaining all the time about how it was unfair that he couldn't hunt but she could. She was glad she would no longer have to listen to his whining. The handlers put the collars on, making sure they were snug and would not fall off. They went into the yard where Gil-galad, a tawny van gogh, Spirit Bear, an albino with red eyes, and Florence, a curly brown van gogh were waiting for them. All had their collars on and looked ready for the hunt. Gil was running circles around an annoyed Spirit, and Flo was just watching and chuckling and Spirit gave the other male a death glare. Fable chuckled, and Legend joined in with the excited Gil. Legend was normally not this excitable, but four weeks of no hunting created a built up energy and it came out in excitable reactions. The two ran around Spirit, and Spirit had a look on his face that said "Really? Did you seriously join in?" Both girls laughed, watching the scene with amusement, then they were interrupted by the squeaking of the gate. A handler was motioning them out, and Spirit was the first to make an escape, running out the gate, the two other males following him, jumping and barking thrilled that they were going hunting. The girls followed more calmly behind, shaking their heads at the boys.

The gate was closed behind them and they crossed the road, heading out into a forest, and not far away on the other side was a mountain, about two hours away from the home. the ground beneath their paws was cool and moist, the trees were budding and the grass was starting to become green. It was spring and the creature were starting to come out of their hiding and hibernation. The bears were hungry from so long without food, and they were starting to get too close to towns and civilization. The contact of humans with bears was rising and so the season was opened and it was the job of the tokotas and their handlers to hunt the bears and minimize the risk of an attack. They found the scent they were seeking, leading towards the mountain. They headed out through the trees, Spirit still in the lead with the two excitable males on his heels. The girls were quiet as they enjoyed the scenery and looked for anything out of the ordinary. The trees started to thin out and the terrain became more rocky. The rocks grew in size until they were large boulders and the mountain was before them. The scent led up a mountain path, leading high to a cave in the mountain side. They started up the side, Fable in the back. Fable looked out over the scenery, it was beautiful and the colors were stunning, for a bit she did not notice the height, but then she looked down, freezing in her tracks once she realized how high up they were. Legend also noticed and looked back, allowing Gil and Flo to pass him and continue up the mountain pass. He turned around and brought Fable back down the mountain. She sat and looked disappointed with herself. Legend knew he could not cheer her up, so he sighed and just climbed back up the mountain.

Spirit, Flo and Gil were all waiting for him at the entrance of the cave. Flo looked back down the path, wondering where Fable went, but Spirit led the way into the cave and she had no time to think it over anymore. She followed the males into the cave. A loud rumbling could be heard from the shadows, followed by growls. They had entered the den of the bear. Bones could be seen scattered across the the cave floor, and once their eyes adjusted, they saw the furry form laying within the bones. The bear was fast asleep, growling and rumbling as it laid there. They snuck up on it, the silence was thick in the air, tension building. That tension was enough to wake the bear and soon his head was up and he roared, annoyed that his sleep was disturbed. He glared at the tokotas who were coming towards him, them stood, swaying and shifting his weight from side to side. He then lifted himself onto his hind legs, but realized the roof of the cave was too low for him to attack that way, so he dropped back down on all fours and ran. He ran for the entrance, the tokotas bolting after him. Gal leaped forward and landed on his shoulders, the other three behind him. The far swung around and down the path, Gil falling off and sliding till he was just on the edge of the cliff. His eyes went wide in terror as he saw the fall and clawed his way further onto the platform. The others chased the bear down the slope. Fable saw them coming and hid behind a boulder. The brown fur of the bear came into sight and she leaped out, ramming into the bear, stopping it dead in it's tracks and nearly knocking it over. Spirit and Legend were on the bear like a dog to a treat. Flo was happy to see the other female, and the two girls backed off as the males finished the job. Gil came down the mountain side, still shaking from the experience of nearly falling off the cliff. They waited for him, taking a short break before heading back home.

Legend had so much pent up energy to spare that he dragged the bear all the way back home himself. Gil was little more calm and down then when they had first headed out. He was shaken up a little and hung in the back with Fable and Flo. Spirit was next to Legend, seeing if he needed help, but Legend refused to have help, so happy to be out hunting that he wanted to bring the prize back himself. It took longer to get back, then it took to get to the mountain. It was two hours to get to the mountain, three and a half hours to return. The trees ended and they came up to the road. Spirit helped lift the bear over the gravel, hoping to keep the pelt in good shape, and the two males carried it over, the girls following behind with Gil. They came to the gate, and Fable let out a bark, barking until a handler appeared from around the back of the building and came down the driveway to open the gate. The tokotas brought the bear into the yard, bringing it around back to the hut where the meat was to be prepared and stored. They put down the bear and the handlers got it into the hut, working together to get it inside. They shut the door and latched it, then went and got the tokotas some treats and meat. Shokou pulled a green candy cane from his pocket once he got to Legend. Ledge wagged his tail, his butt wiggling in excitement, then the treat was given to him, a green apple candy cane. He took it and ran away across the yard before it could be taken away from him, and me munched on his treat, his favorite treat, a treat he had not gotten for four weeks.
