Ever since the Gods were sealed in the Other Realm, the passage between Our Realm and the Other Realm has become rather one sided. Even so, there are ways to make the journey and demons live in Our Realm as much as theirs.

Should one of a child's parents be a demon, then they themselves will be born a cambion—or, a half-demon, as too likely shall be their children.

Due to their demonic ancestry, cambions often have an inherent connection to the Other Realm allowing them to easily use wild magic, but not all possess this connection and many are either—or also—talented runecrafters.

Their appearances are varied due to not only the great variance in their demonic heritage, but also in that they take traits from their non-demonic parents. Regardless, their brightly coloured skin, horns, and sweeping tails make them easily identifiable, and their lack of wings distinguishes them from true demons—though, not all are aware of this.

To be an elysian is more a status than it is an individual species—an elysian can be born of any mortal parents, no matter their species.

For most beings, passage between the veil from Our Realm to the Other is a one way trip—one can enter the Other Realm, but leaving it is more difficult. In fact, it is impossible for the Gods, who reside there forevermore after their war wreaked havoc on Our Realm.

But there is one exception—spirits can freely pass between the veil. When a mortal dies, its spirit is guided beneath the waves by Lume's light through the moonlit corridor and across the veil. However, should a spirit choose it, they may return to Our Realm and be reborn anew.

While there are ways for demons to make their way into Our Realm, it is much easier for an angel to work with a mortal spirit to perform their God's will.

As such, an elysian is a mortal whose spirit agreed to work with an angel before they were born.

"Demon" is a catch-all term for all beings native to the Other Realm.

The Other Realm is the origin of all magic, the essence of creation and destruction, and its air thrums with life. It is where the Gods were born, who created Our Realm and much of the life that lives within it.

But the latent magical energy of the realm still periodically creates its own new life, and these beings of magic are what we call demons.

We do, of course, have more specific terms for certain kinds of demons. The broadest categories of all are "angels" and "devils"—or, demons who work for the Gods, and demons who work for nobody but themselves.

During powerful storms at sea, sometimes a spark of the Goddess Rhodesma is formed, and from this are born her children.

Rhodesma is a Goddess of a few things. Chiefly storms, the sea, life... but also of drama. In no small part due to her penchant for stirring it up. There is plenty of beef between her and the other Gods, including Avicia, the Goddess of love.

For spurning she who is most beloved, Rhodesma's children are born cursed to never to set foot on land, bound forever to the sea—unless they can learn to love, and be truly loved in turn. Their curse can only be broken by a true union of land & sea.
