Can I make adopts of this species?

Yes, you can make adopts of this species, priced or unpriced. There is no official base, but if one so wishes, they may make, distribute, and/or utilize them.

Are there any restricted traits?

Some traits are restricted to certain subspecies, such as wings. However, there is no need to require a permit for any such traits if they would exist in the subspecies of the rattleshake you are making. While some are rarer than others, it is more of a worldbuilding feature than a 'thou shall not pass'.

What do I do if I'm not sure what category a liquid core falls into?

Firstly, consult the subspecies page and follow the flow chart to see if that helps. If you are still unsure, then consider that the individual may be a hybrid (though this is uncommon, it does happen).

Subspecies.

Their personalities, appearances, and traits are all tied to their liquid, aka their core. This has led to some different classifications within the species.

Sip-ent: Standard beverage

Snake bite: Liquid food

Ve-nom: Poisonous or otherwise dangerous to ingest liquid

Serpotion: Harmless or beneficial magical liquids

Vile vial: Harmful magical liquids 

U-slurp-ent: Liquids that you wouldn't casually sip, but aren't dangerous. Just strange.

The practice of consumables with extra magic for added benefits is not uncommon. However, if too much magic is added, one may find that the 'beverage' gains a life and form of its own.  

Appearance.

All rattleshakes have fangs, a skeleton torso, and liquid filled see-through tails.

All rattleshakes have tails made from a flexible yet glass-like substance. These tails all contain a liquid core. They are see through, allowing the liquid within to be easily discerned.

The beverage (or rarely food) inside their tail serves as their lifeblood. Leaks can often be deadly. Unlike most lamia species, rattleshakes will maintain their own temperatures, those with warm beverages naturally running warmer and those with cool beverages naturally running cooler.

The liquid inside a rattleshake affects many aspects of it. It will affect the appearance of its bones, face, and even personality. The core beverage will also usually have a temperature it wants to naturally be at, and usually the body can regulate to keep the individual healthy. The exception is those who are elderly, sick, or damaged, as they may need an extra helping hand staying warm or cold.

Sometimes, toppings such as marshmallows, boba, etc will also float inside the tail. Their spines are straws, and may or may not have ribs attached (though these are usually not visible even if present). The type of straw varies based on the core, and may be see through, paper, plastic, metal, or even waffle straws. If a straw is made of a degradable material such as paper, the lamia's magic will protect it and it will not degrade.
