Dragonkinds are one of the eldest species to roam Micaerth, second only to elvenfolk. There are four general divisions of dragons based on elemental leaning: earth, air, fire, and water. Dragonkind live in tight communities known as Weyrs. Different Weyrs have different lifestyles, habitats, customs, temperments, and abilities. There are two major Weyrs per elemental typing, but smaller Weyrs also exist. Dragonkind rarely leave their Weyrs due to poaching and slavery. Dragon horns, teeth, wings, tongues and tails are considered especially valuable.
Earth Dragons: They are known for their physical raw strength - being some of the physically strongest dragons. They are only rivaled in their strength by fire dragons. They are also known for their incredibly thick skin. Swords of poor quality will have a very difficult time piercing or cutting their flesh. Earth dragons typically have pelts of neutral and natural tones such as tans, browns, whites, and blacks.
Water Dragons: Water dragons are the only dragonkind that can breathe underwater. They are naturally strong swimmers and will spend large amounts of time in the water. Water dragons' pelts are usually blue tones and tans - such as light and dark blues, aquamarine, seafoam, and sandy colors.
Fire Dragons: Similarly to earth dragons, they are known for their physical strength. Additionally, fire dragons have extreme resistance to heat and flames. Using fire magic on them would be like a warm massage for them. Their coloring is usually warm tones such as reds, oranges, and yellows. In rare instances, they can sport black, blue, and purple colors. Fire dragons with these colorings usually promise to be incredibly powerful.
Air Dragons: These were the first variation of dragonkind to roam Micaerth. They are known for their incredible agility, speed, and their ability to fly. Some air dragons have wings, but there are others who do not and can fly regardless. Air dragons can come in any color, but they typically come in light tones such as whites and creams.
weyrs
ismintis weyr
A clan of air dragons with an ancient lineage. They are among the first dragon Weyrs. As a result, they possess incredible knowledge that has been passed down through the generations. Ismintis typically have very serious demeanors but are warm and diplomatic. They have very long and thin bodies and can fly without the use of wings - in fact, most Ismintis' don't have wings. Dragons from the Ismintis Weyr are thought to have very high pedigrees and typically command a lot of respect. Their diet consists almost entirely of birds and the occasional small land prey such as rabbits. The Weyr almost always possesses one dragon with seer-like abilities who offers prophecies and forewarnings. This seer is in charge of naming all Ismintis youth. The Ismintis Weyr is located on the peaks of Mount Senoves.
linksma weyr
A newer clan of air dragons. Unlike the Ismintis with their serious demeanor, Linksma takes almost everything in stride. Their philosophy is to live life to the fullest and have fun. As a result, they are a whimsical and pleasant group of dragons to be around. They often enjoy pulling pranks and are the most gregarious and charitable Weyr of dragons. At times, they can be a bit naïve and easily tricked. Linksmas can have either wings or no wings, but unlike the Ismintis they are more likely to have wings than not. The Linksmas are the strongest fliers of any dragon. The Linksma diet consists of birds, rabbits, mice, cats, and at times small deer. Linksma kids are named after pleasant things that evoke happiness. The Linksma Weyr is located on Mount Khylma.
kyoaku weyr
A savage group of earth dragons known for their brute strength and violent dispositions. Most Kyoakus are eager to fight and will do so purely for fun – they will take any excuse to battle. This Weyr is known for being the most common recipients of the Red Basilisk curse, although it sometimes manifests in Banuego dragons. Kyoaku dragons can eat things other than meat, but most sustain a primarily meat diet to stay healthy. Most of their Weyr members are named after words that invoke violence or strength. The Kyoaku Weyr is located on the northern peaks of the Grimmorius Summits.
kiseki weyr
A group of relatively peaceful earth dragons known for building their homes in gem caverns. They both consume and sell gemstones and ores. They are docile creatures who only attack if provoked or if someone invades their caverns or tries to steal their gemstones. Their tough skin and strong jaws allow them to eat rocks – giving them some of the strongest stomachs of any species. Their diet gives a shimmering quality to their blood and mouth. Most of their Weyr members are named after gemstones or ores. This Weyr is located on Fithor's Peak.
folto weyr
A group of mysterious water dragons that spend the majority (if not all) of their lives underwater. They live in the deep depths of the ocean in dark crevices or underwater caverns. As a result, they have excellent dark vision and are the fastest swimmers of all dragons. They usually have long slender builds. Foltos almost all have scales and either small fur accents or no fur at all. Foltos diets consist of fish and crustaceans. They often fight each other and other water creatures over territory but otherwise will not waste energy on a fight with other predators. Foltos are often named after fish. The Folto Weyr is located off the southwestern sea.
spiag weyr
A clan of water dragons that make their home on sandy shores. They spend half of their lives on land and half of it in the water. Their diets mostly consist of fish and crustaceans but may include other animals such as small birds and prey. They have mild-mannered temperaments and are for the most part agreeable. Spiags are typically named after physical characteristics. The Spiag Weyr is located on Eskor shore.
Banuego weyr
A clan of fire dragons that live exclusively in hot volcanic areas. They are known for sleeping and bathing in pools of magma. Banuegos are hot-headed and quick to anger, but are cautious about starting wars. Their diet is primarily birds, goats, and other prey that dwells on tall mountains. Banuegos have the strongest heat resistance of any dragon and are virtually immune to any form of fire or heat damage. Banuegos do not have a naming schema, but their young’s name is a combination of their parents’ names. This Weyr is located in the volcanic peaks of the Grimmorius Summits.
siglio weyr
A group of fire dragons that live in hot arid deserts. They bury themselves in the sand when they get too warm and lie in wait to ambush unsuspecting prey. Despite their significant physical strength, they have evolved into stealth predators out of convenience. Sigilos are a quiet group of dragons who will rarely talk to outsiders. They have a multitude of special fighting techniques passed down through the generations that are closely guarded secrets. Their diet consists of snakes, lizards, and small to medium-sized prey. They are typically named after the conditions of how they were born. This Weyr is situated in the Galoyla Desert.
