ancient elves

Ancient elves were the first life forms made on Micaerth and have the longest life spans of any race - closely followed by only air dragons. Ancient elves were the start of the elvenfolk family tree. They possess incredible knowledge. Their minds are sharp and clear, and very rarely fade over time. Ancient elves have faded from most cities and have secluded themselves in small sanctuaries. The largest remaining community of ancient elves lives in the base of Mount Senoves, in a small temple called Adytum.

dark elves

Dark elves are the result of ancient elves who moved out into dark environments - primarily forests and caverns. Their skin has a dull faded color to it and can range to browns, greys, blacks, and in rare instances some dull blues. Dark elves have incredible dark vision and excel in earth and dark magics. They are usually very adept hunters. Dark elves are typically the best at hand-to-hand combat of any elves.

darkcrawlers

Darkcrawlers are typically not considered elves, although they are accepted into some mixed elven communities. They are the result of dark elves who worshipped Noctis, the god of darkness. In exchange for their service, Noctis granted them special powers and an appearance more in line with his own. Darkcrawlers have a multitude of skin tones, usually reds, blues, purples, and sometimes the occasional grey or black. They also had horns, tails, and particularly powerful Darkcrawlers have cloven hooves. More information on Darkcrawlers is available on their separate race page. 

high elves

High elves are descended from ancient elves and were born with high amounts of magic potential. They are, on average, taller than both humans and elves at anywhere from 6 to 9 feet. They follow similar ranks and family lines as the British royal family and are known to provide the world with fine jewels, textiles, and produce highly intelligent tacticians and mathematicians. High elves firmly believe in hierarchy and order and think of themselves as the most superior life forms on Micaerth. This led to the genocide of arcane elves. 

arcane elves

Arcane elves were special high elves born with incredible arcane powers and distinct purple skin. Arcane elves were used as spies and soldiers for high elves and lived in a small colony to the west of Raegallius. After a while of being mistreated and discriminated against, arcane elves tried to rebel for independence. However, their rarity became their downfall as they did not have the numbers to win in a rebellion against high elves. Almost the entire population was disseminated, with only one known survivor. Most races just believed that arcane elves were unable to become self-sufficient and/or became secluded like ancient elves. As a result, very few individuals are aware of the extinction of arcane elves.
