Raina background story

Raina was born first, a few minutes before her sister Kaylee. Even as babies, there was a distinct difference in behavior between the girls, Kaylee being the louder one. Having a chatterbox for a sister caused Raina to grow up, not expressing her emotions and staying in the background. She was always there for Kaylee, who was much more expressive, and took it upon her to comfort and protect her in any way she could.
Her parents were a police agent, stationed in the nearby town, and a barmaid. Her father had mental health problems and stopped working when the girls were 6. He was an absent father with moodswings that made the twins avoid him. Their mother was often overwhelmed with having to take care of a mentally ill husband and an ADHD child (Kaylee). She spent most of her time, locked up in her room.
While Kaylee loved playing with other kids, and trying out lots of hobbies, she played with Raina plenty when they were at home. They went an many adventures, and often got into trouble because they were both wild and impulsive.
Kaylee always had problems, getting by at school, but things got serious when she was 8. She had a very strict teacher who couldn't handle her, resulting in many drama's. Kaylee was sensitive. Raina couldn't stand seeing her sister cry. She grew protective of Kaylee and started defending her. Their teacher eventually sent Kaylee to an advisor, who told their parents to have Kaylee diagnosed. Their parents agreed, but never took action. By the end of the year, both girls failed.
When they were 13, Kaylee's problems had brought her to a school's counselor once again, a different one this time. She advised to have her diagnosed again. Raina was present at this conversation. When it was clear her parents would not do anything, she urged her mother to call the child psychologists. She ended up being the one to take Kaylee to all of the appointments and helping her to understand her ADHD, and how to deal with it. With help and medds, Kaylee did a lot better. She made new friends and it turned out she was pretty smart.
Raina developed a strong sense of responsibility, and grew even more protective of Kaylee. She didn't have many friends during this time, and spent her time reading books, exersizing, smoking and praktising her magic. Her fire magic grew very strong during this time, and she developed a knack for fireballs, firebolts and other things, meant for fighting.
When she was 16, Raina met a 15 year old girl, Rene, in the corner where they were secrety smoking. They fell in love and dated for a few months. Rene broke it off without telling Raina why. (It was because she had fallen in love with a boy.)

Raina's paranoia

Raina's paranoia is focused on other people. She is highly suspicious of them, wanting to harm her by talking about her or doing things behind her back.
- She will ovethink conversations afterwards, searching for things that could have had a double meaning.
- She is afraid of being followed and often takes detours in an attempt to shake someone off or to be unpredictable, so it is harder for a potential stalker.
- She is afraid of people, stalking her, so she will always keep the curtains shut and stalks her neighbors to make sure they are not stalking her. She keeps files on a lot of people who live nearby including the ones she sees at her regular stores, on the street and in the underground.
- Crowds make her very edgy. She becomes agressive and suspicious and she will think the worst of everything.
- She reacts agressively to being stared at.
- She might react agressively to questions.
- She will never leave personal stuff behind which could be used against her in a voodoo spell, including hair, napkins, used cups which might contain her saliva, etc.
- She spends a lot of time, warding herself and the spaces she spends time in.
- She has broken with all of her friends, and with her boyfriend, and has lost interest in most of her hobbies because her paranoia keeps her busy all day long.
- Her paranoia gets her so wound up she has sleeping problems. They also get worse because of he drinking. She is perpetually tired.
- Raina drinks because the alcohol gets rid of her fear. It does, however, make her agressive instead.
- Raina is very distached from her emotions, preferring not to dwell on them. She is unconciously afraid they will overwhelm her.
