  • Medium to somewhat tall in height

Clothing Style

Pyro tends to dress in a similar style to that common in Cycleandre, although it's more of a recreation rather than their authentic cultural clothing since he's been exiled. He tends to dress mostly in browns and reds, and he tends to have various bindings across his body, either gray/bandage-like or black depending on the outfit. He tends to wear some kind of vest or tunic, usually with light leather armor built in or underneath, along with pants that end at or below the knee, which tuck into leather leg armor and/or boots. He wears a shoulder guard on his left size, although it has no adornment/design on it. In Cycleandre, partners would always wear one shoulder guard, each wearing the opposite side. They normally have a unique symbol for the pair, but since Pyro never bonded with his partner in Cycleandre, he never actually wore his official shoulder guard. After traveling with Neai for a few years, he ended up making a plain shoulder guard for himself and rarely goes anywhere without it on. He has thought about putting a unique design on it, but he's been indecisive about what exactly it should be and also doesn't want Neai to ask about it, since he thinks it might be too forward to indicate he considers her as his partner.

Pyro wears a lens over his left eye with a strap that goes around his head. The lens is both to partially correct his vision (since it was mildly damaged by scarring) and also protect it from the elements since it is rather sensitive compared to his other eye, which is relatively unharmed comparatively. He also has some small metal pieces attached to his ears that look sort of like plain jewelry, but their function is to cover scars/tears in his ears.

Personality

Pyro is a rather intense and serious young man who dislikes the company of others with very few exceptions. He is very slow to trust and doesn't enoy other people having influence over whatever situation he might be in. He is anti-social and an independent loner that rarely accepts the help of others, but if in a situation he legitimately cannot handle, he will respectfully show gratitude to those willing to help him. However, even in these situations he will not ask for help actively, and the help will have to be forced on him without his input.

His resolve is unwavering once he sets a goal for himself, and he is not easily intimidated or deterred. However, he is not brash and will carefully observe his surroundings and evaluate his situation fully to give him the best advantage. He has trained himself to endure quite a bit of pain and suffering, and he is not easily affected by much. He tends to seem somewhat emotionless at times, aside from his aggressive and rather rude demeanor toward others. He doesn't care about other people's feelings for the most part, and he won't hold back his opinions to be polite.

Pyro is uncharacteristically mellow and respectful toward Neai though, and he would follow her anywhere no matter the reason. He doesn't tend to question her much and is only interested in her well being and keeping her safe. He worries about offending her at times and tends to hide his differing opinions from her unless specifically asked. He cares very dearly for her, yet he'd never say so to her since he doesn't want to distract her from her own goals.

  • Some of his muscles/joints hurt consistently (although he's trained himself to not let the pain slow him down)
  • Vision is somewhat poor/damaged, so his other senses need to compensate
  • Very slow to trust, doesn't like working with others, and usually only looks out for himself or Neai
  • Often speaks harshly/rudely, aggressive, and a bit too serious

Backstory

Pyro grew up in Cycleandre without his parents for the majority of his childhood due to them dying in battle early in his life. He was taken care of by various members of the town while bouncing between mentors in his training to become a warrior. Few mentors were pleased to train him due to his rebellious and uncooperative attitude, and Pyro had a hard time trusting anyone in his age group. When he was eventually partnered with someone, he was unhappy with the choice and considered his partner far too incompetent and unreliable to trust his life with in combat. For this reason Pyro never made much attempt to coordinate with his partner or even fight alongside in in battle, usually relying on his own skills to manage on his own.

However during one attack on the town, despite Pyro holding his own well, to his dismay he learned his partner was killed in the fight. The other warriors branded him a traitor to their tradition, and for his disloyalty he was to be executed. He was severely beaten and tortured by the warriors who were not held back, which is how he earned the scars that now mar his body. However he managed to escape the town and flee into the Yamilan forest just outside of the Fyre Ranges. He continued as far as he could until he succumbed to his exhaustion and injuries and collapsed. As he struggled to get up and keep moving, he noticed the forest acting strangely around him, and shortly after a Rayconi woman, Neai Redorae, emerged from the woods. Although initially apprehensive of her, Pyro realized she intended to help him. He later awoke with his injuries healed and bandaged with Neai waiting for him to come around. After thanking her, the two parted ways.

Pyro made his way to Regretful Ends, where the primary Warp Gate of Yamila was located, intending to leave the planet to lessen the chance of encountering other Cycleandre warriors. It was here that he encountered Neai again, this time being harassed by two men on the street. Pyro stepped in and helped her chased them off, and he offered to escort her to her next destination as thanks for saving his life previously. Although Neai insisted, and still insists, that he doesn't owe her anything, Pyro still feels obligated to repay her for her kindness to him.

Although it wasn't their initial intention, the two have now been traveling together for years now. They have an unspoken partnership and implicitly trust each other. Pyro remains utterly loyal and very protective of Neai, treating her almost like a princess with how much he is willing to serve her. He doesn't think about it too deeply, but he's noticed that he's feeling more bonded to her than anyone he's ever met, and it somewhat perplexes him why she is so easy to trust when he was unable to do so with anyone else. He also harbors unspoken feelings for her that he doesn't have any intention of mentioning to her, believing her job as a missionary of Arboria is much too important to distract her from with his affections.

Trivia:

  • Pyro was originally a character made by a close friend and 5th grade classmate who played with a small group of us on the playground at recess. We played a little fantasy role playing game referred to as “The Game” basically every day, which consisted of us running around pretending to be magical creatures.
    • Pyro was one of four characters that this friend would cycle through playing as, the other three being Whira Raynai, Neai, and Koiji.
    • After losing contact with this friend after he moved when we in middle school, I continued developing his characters for use in my stories, since they still played a role in them.
  • Neai and Pyro were still traveling partners in their original iteration when I first started using them on my own. Pyro was still somewhat of a bodyguard toward Neai when they were both male, but as I started writing them together it felt like they were closer than just friends. Of course, this happened when I was still young and didn't know that gay couples "were a thing," so I figured if they were going to be together, then I would just turn Neai into a girl instead.
    • Obviously I'm older and more open minded, so I got conflicted between keeping Neai as a girl since she's been that way for the longest duration of time or maybe turning them back into a boy as they were originally. I figured making her nonbinary/genderfluid would be a reasonable compromise between both options. I don't think Pyro would care regardless though.
  • Pyro was originally a fox, and I made his humanoid design on my own. His only notable feature was wearing some kind of strappy face mask/muzzle. I don't know what the purpose of it was, but it carried over into his humanoid design. The current purpose is a protective lens over his eye. I think the original purpose I came up with was "to hold his face together" as if it was so mutilated that it would've fallen apart, and he just continues to wear it. I don't think that makes any sense, but whatever, it's just an aesthetic thing now with some shoehorned function.
  • Pyro didn't have a "hairstyle" when he was a fox, so he always looked a little bald when compared to his humanoid design that had hair. This plays a little into his hairstyle when he first met Neai years ago, which was partially shaved.
