character design choices you Regret

Probably the biggest regret I have and will ever have is when I tried to make this vampire girl who was native american, wore bellydancing goth type clothing, and had a ton of body markings. She ended up looking super hella racist on my part even though I hadn't intended it and didnt' even realize it until afterwards and I got a lot of backlash about it. I quickly took her down and have never brought her back but I will alwasy regret that time when I should have known better and was stupid.

Past there there's some super marysues over the years, but we all have those in our youth so I don't hold myself as hard for those, the gal above was only 4-5 years ago when I was already an adult and should have known better so I beat myself up over it a whole lot more.

Prismakry ahh im always super paranoid about accidentally doing things like that. its always unfortunate when you make a character and realize they fall under stereotypes. i think sometimes you can get away with minor ones as long as the character is fleshed out in other ways that aren't gross/stereotypes, or have other characters within the same universe that don't fall under the stereotypes, but yeahhh sometimes...

i personally think marysues are.. fine???? like a character thats OP/cliche/colorful/whatever people call marysues these days doesnt hurt anyone tbh. Eva herself is a pretty big marysue but!! i love her! no one is Has to read abt them, so. but i can understand just being personally uncomfortable with making them! Alec was originally meant to be a straight up self-insert but i Couldnt Stand It so i had to flesh them out lmao

haha yeah I don't necessarily mind marysues that much either, hell my main character on Final Fantasy XIV is literally a self-insert based on me so I got little room to talk xD 

but some of the one's from my youth were pretty cringe-worthy, lol. like I had a marysue fanchar for Gorillaz that was literally just a female clone of 2D and I shipped them together. Like, I was that person xD

Tart used to have an excessively long scythe ahoge and I'm so glad it's gone, but ughhhh looking at all the art I got of him back then I regret it so hard. Dumb little me, only watching anime with really ridiculous hair

A couple of other questionable stereotypes too that I've edited out as soon as they became apparent and I became better educated, but for the most part I'm relatively happy with how I've altered the more aggravating things out

I regret this butthead's outfit. I love the guy, but every time I go to draw/color him I give up partway. I have two simple cheebs of him in my WIPs collection, and let me tell you they are anything but simple.

This guy looking like a shota, while there's nothing in his backstory/personality to justify this. Why does he look like this ? I should find a way to change this and make him more adult, but it ain't easy when you can't draw and artists won't divert from the reference. And that piece with the bunny is too good to throw it away.

This one being shota like makes me a bit uncomfortable as well now that I know how shota characters are hated on. But he really was meant to be "an adult that looks like a kid". He's the shy and awkward boy that everyone treats as a kid even though he's trying to be a responsible adult. At least he's not having sex then he stays away from the "sexualised kid-like character" problem.
Beside this, I regret him being albino. I LOVE white hairs, but as he's a realistic character, he couldn't have them without being an albino. But then he's supposed to be constantly wearing a hat and sunglasses, and he has no art displaying this.... It would be sad to hide his pretty blue eyes anyway.... So, I don't know.... He's really into hairs, then his particular hairs are an important part of him, but there's just something wrong somewhere. An albino person should be protecting himself more.

This guy's design is just cringey to me. Nekoboy, bishie-like, heterochromia and unnatural colours, that's just too edgy for me to be able to be proud of him. Yet, he's still my favourite boy, and one of those who got the most art. I love him deeply, he's really important to me, despite his stupid design.

These characters were created back on 2009 then I'll throw the "I was young" card as an excuse. 

More recently, the heterochromia eyes doesn't make sense on this lion. I should have  given him green eyes. Sometimes I feel like recoloring his artwork so that both of his eyes are green, but I'm not sure I'm allowed to do this.

i have problems w designing... like i can draw complex designs, so i can never make any myself, so i decided to leave her plain and make her a more intricate outfit but now i don't like it rip

Prismakry i get u on the accidentally stereotyping people thing, but like?? i wouldn't mind a design like that, i actually like how it sounds! i'm native american myself lol

The one time I redesigned a character, got a bunch of art of the redesign....only to decide I liked the original design better lol.

So now I have a bunch of art for a design I'll never use. Oh well I guess.

Also for my character Atlas, I want his hair to stay long but like. I wish I went another direction with it. Not that I'd have any idea on what to do. It's not too late to fix it at least.

haha she was pretty bad when I look back on it, even if I really liked her when I first made her, but omg the backlash I got was immediate and severe. Then again I did post her on tumblr so I guess I can't be -that- surprised...but still. If you're curious I guess I could show you her privately or something but she'll never see the public light of day again xD

Tbh I regret a lot of Ryo's design...His hair specifically, even though I love it to bits. Getting comms of him is hard because most people can't get it right ;;v;;

her dress is just too frilly. i feel bad commissioning anyone to draw her because of how complicated her stupid dress is
