Munro Calibyrne is an Irish half-blood wizard, the only son of Muggle Brendan, and witch Niamh. He also has a younger sister, a Muggle named Orla. Munro attended Hogwarts from 1980-1987 and was sorted into Gryffindor. As an adult, he became a Dragonologist, before eventually taking a job as the professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts. He was also convinced by students to head the Dueling Club. Though his primary job is at Hogwarts, he spends many weekends at the dragon reserves in both Wales and Scotland.

Munro Calibyrne was born to a muggle man named Brendan, and a witch named Niamh, and was the older brother to his muggle sister, Orla. Like most magic-folk who marry muggles, Niamh kept her magic a secret from her husband, and lived more or less as a muggle. However, Munro showed signs of magic early on--most of which Brendan more or less overlooked or missed, until when he was around seven, amd accidentally used his magic to throw his toys all around his room when his father tried to make him go to bed before he wanted to. After such a display, Niamh had no choice but to confess that she was actually a witch, and that Munro was likely a wizard, too. Although she hoped Brendan's love for her would be enough to make him understanding, Brendan left her instead, breaking Niamh's heart and, possibly more devastating, forcing her to contact the Ministry of Magic in order to have his memory of their magic Obliviated. Munro blamed himself for their divorce for a long time, but eventually came to realize that it was his father who should have loved his family enough to accept something that was scary or hard--that they were the same people they had always been, his wife, and his children, that he had chosen to abandon.

Munro received his letter to Hogwarts when he was 11 years old, and when he attended, he was sorted into Gryffindor. He was a chaser on his Quidditch team, and was named a prefect in his fifth year. It was disappointing for their family, Orla most of all, when she turned eleven and didn't receive a letter of her own, but Munro tried to involve her in magic as much as he could, even occasionally taking her for rides on his broom. He was skilled at Charms and Defense Against the Dark Arts, but was fascinated by Care of Magical Creatures, deciding to try to become a Magizoologist.

After graduation, Munro began studying to achieve his career goals, traveling around a bit to study different magical creatures. Eventually, he began to favor studying dragons, and started training to become a Dragonologist. He studied at numerous different dragon reservations as he obtained his qualifications.

Some time later, Munro applied to be the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts, and was hired by Headmistress McGonagall. As a fan of the Care of Magical Creatures class, Munro sometimes combines his lectures with Professor Hagrid's, when discussing Dark Magical Creatures--students also enjoy the opportunity to go outside and get out of the classroom.

Although Munro's primary profession at the moment is being a professor at Hogwarts, he still spends a good deal of his weekends at the locak dragon reserves in Scotland and Wales. It was at the Welsh Green Dragon Reserve that he met Luminita Scurlock, a muggle Dragonologist whose determination and bravery fascinated him. After some time, they start dating, despite the fact that Munro is also her son's professor.
