Overview

Noxus Nott, "Nox" to most, is a ghost, and was a Welsh pure-blood wizard, first-born child of ??? and ??? Nott, and older brother of ??? Nott. Nox attended Hogwarts from 1888-1894, and was sorted into Slytherin. Nox believed in blood purist idealogy, being raised in a "Sacred 28" Household, and spent most of his time at Hogwarts with Slytherin friends with the same way of thinking. In his sixth year, he became acquianted with Ambrose Morgan, a half-blood wizard from Gryffindor, and by their seventh year, the pair were dating in secret. Ultimately, he is killed in a duel in 1894, when his wand backfires in an attempt to cast the killing curse on his opponent. Unsatisfied with his death, Nox chose not to move on. His ghost now haunts the Hogwarts Castle, though he typically inhabits the Slytherin common room.

Background

Nox is the oldest child of the Notts, a pure-blood family that believed in blood supremacy, and had always, of course, been sorted into Slytherin. When Nox came of age, he too, was sorted into Slytherin, where he made the wrong kinds of friends and caused trouble without ever getting into any. Among his best friends was the headmaster's son, Sirius Black II, as well as Octavius Malfoy, and Ephraim Prince. Most of his time at Hogwarts was spent either toiling away for academic perfection or spending time with his friends and bullying others.

In Nox's sixth year, he gets paired up with a Gryffindor boy, Ambrose Morgan, with whom he has never previously gotten along with, considering the competition between their houses. After they spend some time together though, Nox finds himself drawn to Ambrose, and the two become friends, although not usually while Sirius, Octavius, or Ephraim were around. Ambrose teaches Nox about what his life was like growing up with a Muggle mother, and how he himself grew up without magic until he started to show signs at about age 9 and his father confessed the truth to his family. Through their friendship, Nox begins to question some of the ideals his family and other Slytherins seem to hold very close.

In their seventh year, a summer apart has helped Nox come to terms with his feelings for Ambrose, and the two begin a secret affair in early October. Publicly, the two continue to be fairweather friends and rivals, while privately, the two begin to fall in love.

During the holidays, Octavius catches Ambrose around the Slytherin dungeons with gifts for Nox that are clearly romantic in nature. Octavius assumes this means Ambrose is harboring an unrequited crush on Nox, and attempts to use this to blackmail Ambrose and, not wanting to out his boyfriend from seemingly nonsupportive friends, Ambrose keeps quiet about their relationship. This goes on for some time, until Octavius brags that he no longer has to do homework, due to the fact that he makes Ambrose do all his homework. Nox asks why, and Octavius first says he can't tell, but then admits he's been dying to tell someone, and whispers to Nox that he's blackmailing him with the knowledge that he's gay, and that he's interested in Nox. Panicking, Nox asks Octavius to talk alone, and in an attempt to get him to leave Ambrose alone, ends up revealing that the two of them are actually dating. Seeing an opportunity to climb the social letter by knocking someone else down, Octavius realizes he can ruin Nox, too--given that he's dating a half-blood. Nox challenges him to a duel, on the terms of: if Nox wins, Octavius keeps his secret, and if Octavius wins, Nox will do whatever he wants to ensure he still keeps the secret. Later that day, Nox overhears Octavius telling Ephraim he had something to tell him later today.

As time passes until their duel, Nox witnesses Octavius, Sirius, and Ephraim bullying Ambrose in the dungeons, and worries that Octavius has revealed the truth to their friends, as well as that Ambrose may be in serious danger. Incensed, Nox demands they duel now and starts launching spells at Octavius. A crowd gathers as the pair duel, with Nox winning the first round but then losing the second. As they prepare to begin the third round, Octavius tells Nox he should just give up, because everyone is going to find out anyway. Nox, already infuriated, comes to the conclusion that the only way to keep Octavius from outing them is to kill him, and as they begin their third duel, Nox attempts to cast the killing curse. What he didn't realize was that somewhere between his defeat in the second duel and this moment, his wand had sustained a serious crack, and when he cast the spell, it backfired. No professors could have arrived in time to save him, of course. Noxus Nott famously died from his own backfired killing curse, becoming a laughing stock--but perhaps out of respect, Octavius never revealed their secret, and the Slytherins all left Ambrose alone for the remainder of the year.

Dying young and unsatisfied, Nox rejected the notion of passing on, instead choosing to remain as a ghost. He returned to Hogwarts, but could not travel far from the site of his murder initially, and never had an opportunity to reunite with Ambrose before his boyfriend graduated.

Now, Noxus Nott is a common sight to Slytherins. A rather handsome seventh-year boy for young Slytherins to crush on, Nox is always willing to give advice, though he's more likely to try to get someone into trouble than genuinely help, growing more and more bitter over his years as a ghost. Nox has also given up on the notion of pure-blood ideology by now, and is constantly frustrated by what he hears from young Slytherins. Having been dead for quite some time now, Noxus is able to manifest anywhere on the castle grounds, but spends most of his time in the Slytherin common room, or occasionally, the Great Hall.
