Maryam Shafiq is a British-Pakistani pure-blood witch, seventh-born daughter of Hamad and Junaraaj Shafiq, and younger sister to Aman, Syeda, Eshaal, Shazia, Baheerah, and Shaista, and older sister, if only by 10 months, to Naseem. Maryam attended Hogwarts from 2010-2017, and was sorted into Slytherin. Maryam is known at her school for her popularity, as she is friends with a bit of an 'in-crowd' in Slytherin, largely children from the Sacred 28--she's best friends with Decima Rosier, Emmaline Macmillan, and Lila Prewett, as well as being friendly with Miraphora Rosier, Thomesia Burke, and Ramona Nott. Maryam achieves good grades, but tends to put social interests above schoolwork, though she still expects perfect grades despite the fact that she knows she doesn't always work as hard as she should. Despite the fact that growing up, she and her younger sister Naz were best friends, Maryam hardly spends any time with Naz once she makes friends in Slytherin.
