Relationships
- Relationship with N: Out of her all her family members, N is probably the one who understands Clover the best, as while he does become more trusting of others and better able to understand human society, there is always a part of him that still feels like an outsider and is never able to completely let go of his distrust towards people. Because of this, he relates with his daughter's inablity to easily interact with others, although he does worry that he might have unintentionally caused her to be the way she is.
At no point does Clover ever blame N for any of this though, and actually really appreciates that her father is able to relate with her on these matters. The two are very close, probably even closer than she is with Hilbert, despite the fact she loves both of her parents equally. N was the one who would take her to play and talk with wild Pokemon from an early age, so a lot of her love of Pokemon comes from those early experiences with him.
- Relationship with Hilbert: Clover also has a very close relationship with Hilbert, as while he can't relate with her as much as N can, he's always very loving and compassionate with her. He works to understand his daughter's quirks and only encourages her to push herself to open up more to others because he's concerned with her longterm happiness. If Clover were to decide she truly wished to be a hermit who lived in the woods surrounded by Pokemon, he would accept her decision and love her regardless. Living with N has made it so he had to be a very patient and understanding person afterall, so he's able to apply this to his interactions with his children.
- Relationship with Arian: Clover gets along with Ari much more than Braith, although a lot of that is due to the two having similar temperments while Braith is the hotheaded sibling. Clover is curious about her little brother's empathic abilites, and enjoys comparing notes in how it relates to her own ability to read others. Growing up, they found it amusing to use the two together, to see what kind of a story they could paint about the people they were interacting with. She's also glad her brother doesn't seem to suffer from the same social problems she has, which leads to her not being as worried about Ari as she is about Braith. Because of this, she's fairly respectful of the decisions he makes and leaves him to his own devices when the two aren't together. She has a lot of love for Ari and faith in his ability to make good decisions
- Relationship with Braith: Clover actually does get along with Braith, even if the two don't have as much in common and Braith often acts like he's annoyed whenever his big sister tries to pay attention to him. Being fairly hotheaded, Braith is prone to getting himself involved in dangerous situations, and Clover feels like she needs to be around to try and bail him out (despite the fact Braith doesn't appreciate it). Deep down, he does love his older sister, he just doesn't like to admit that she's often right about the situation. On her part, Clover often worries about her brother's hotheadedness, as she tends to relate it back to her problems with interacting with people. She's worried that it will negatively affect his relationships with others, and that one day it might land him in a sitatuion she won't be around to protect him from.
Personality
- Clover is a very quiet individual, and can come across and cold and aloof as a result. In reality, she actually a kind person, she simply prefers to observe others than interact with them herself. Perhaps as a result, she isn't the most socially skilled, so when she does interact with others, she tends to drive people away. Most people who meet her will, when pressed, comment on the fact there was something unnerving about her, almost as if she saw too much and simply wasn't commenting on it. This was true even when she was a young child.
The reality is that Clover is a very observant person, finding the details in a situation that other's tend to miss. She's very good at looking at a person and reading the type of person they are, and while this doesn't really help her at talking with them, she still does it whenever she meets someone and will often assume that by 'reading' someone, she doesn't actually need to talk with them to get to know them. This was a particular problem when she was younger, as it often lead to her acting overly familiar with someone she'd never actually had a conversation with.
As a result, Clover prefers the company of Pokemon over people, as Pokemon don't tend to judge her or treat her as odd for knowing more than she should. While she can't understand what they're saying the way her father can, she can read them well enough to understand what they mean whenever they try and communicate with her. Out of all of her siblings, Clover is the one who enjoys their living situation the most, as since her parents run a Pokemon santuary of sorts that's isolated from people, she rarely ends up interacting with humans past her family. A large part of her going on a Pokemon journey was because both of her parent's thought it would do her some good to actually see more of the world and be forced to interact with more people. Clover is practical enough to see the sense in this, as she does realize that her inablity to easily interact with others is a problem.
Despite all her quirks and difficulty in getting close to other, once Clover actually does become close with someone she shows undying loyalty towards them. She's the type of person who'll always have your back, and is perfectly willing to go along with whatever schemes her friends suggest. She trusts that her ability to read the situation and people around them will always be enough to keep them out of any sort of real trouble.
Trivia
- - Her best friend, Oralie, likes to point out how her ability to notice small details and read people is very typical of detectives in mystery novels, and maybe she should try applying her abilities in a similar way. Clover doesn't think much of it as it's something she's always been able to do, but does point out she doesn't have the vast amounts of miscellaneous knowledge those detectives always seem to have to make her ability truly useful for that type of thing. Despite this, Clover would probably actually make a fairly good detective, as she is quite skilled at solving mysteries and puzzels.
- - She actually can understand what Pokemon are saying to her to some degree, since N attempted to teach all of his children to understand the lauguage of Pokemon, to varying degrees of success. For her, it's more that after she's around a specific Pokemon long enough, she eventually picks up on what some of its different vocalizations mean. Since she relies so much on being able to read a Pokemon's mannerisms though, she never really tried as hard to literally understand them, which is probably why her two younger brothers are better at it.
- - While growing up, Clover would commonly assist her parents with caring for some of the more friendly and "easily-managed" Pokemon staying at the santuary. One such Pokemon she develops an especially close bond with is a Pidove that lost one of his wings to poachers. Even once he is well enough to leave, he sticks around so he can remain with Clover. When Clover leaves on her journey, Pidove accompanies her, as he doesn’t wish to remain behind without her. At this point, he’s been fitted with a prosthetic wing that allows him to fly to some degree, but he is largely unable to battle as most attacks will knock it out of place
- - Due to this, Clover is allowed to pick a starter Pokemon when she starts her journey, since she'll need a Pokemon who's able to fight. Hilbert also wanted her to have a more stereotypical Pokemon journey, so even though she could have probably found another Pokemon at the santuary who would be willing to travel with her, he arranged with Bianca to let her pick one of the Unova starters and start her journey at the same time Bianca's daugher, Oralie, would also pick her starter. Thus Oralie and Clover end up traveling together as the two are childhood friends and Oralie is one of the few people Clover gets along well with.
