★ North's Links
north isn’t dexter’s mortality pet so much as his mortality *leash*, which goes two ways - at first dexter would yank north around and they would let him, and they both knew it was because the alternative was dexter going after unwilling FMNs. nowadays dexter believes it's an arrangement of mutual enjoyment, and north does not disagree. dexter is under the impression that he’s helping to break them free of their morals, and delights in every chink in their calm facade; north is entirely aware of this fact and has successfully exploited it to the extent that he believes they will eventually help him achieve his goals on their own. whether he's correct in his assessment or not remains to be seen.
after dexter died he started kidnapping FMNs to join his gang and north was like no you can’t do that if they don’t even *want* to join you
(dexter: who’s gonna stop me? you? north: yes)
and then they chased each other around for like five years and dexter eventually agreed to leave innocent FMNs alone, with the unspoken agreement being that they would be his ally instead. over an uneasy decades-long alliance, he's gleefully trampled all over north's boundaries, done unspeakable things for their benefit (most of which they fixed eventually) and generally been a driving force in their life, for good and for ill. but hey, it's not all his fault - north makes themselves such an easy target that he just can't resist.
north is kind of baffled that theo wants to be their friend at all considering how out of touch with socializing they are, but she's pleasant enough and lives relatively nearby so they hang out with her when they're winding down from work. she helps them remember to go out and do human things, not just stay out of sight and out of mind, that they’re not just a cog in the machine.
theo treated north with a kind of awe at first, but became steadily concerned by how secluded and set apart their life was - no sign of visitors aside from the immaculate guest room, with nary a hobby in sight. she's convinced that it's not good for north to be alone so much, and checks up with them as often as she can. she's quietly thrilled when they entrust her with a detail about themselves.
jemmy was one of the earliest members of the fmnetwork. while an active and prominent member at first, she began disagreeing with north over how the fmnetwork was being run, and they parted ways on bad terms in the late 1990s. north is mostly resigned about it; regretful, perhaps, but aware they would make the same decisions again if they had to.
jemmy disliked north's lack of transparency regarding how the fmnetwork was run, and accused them of deliberately obscuring key details from senior members to hide their influence over new fmns. north... did not take this well. they fought for months, and when jemmy couldn't make any headway with them she left. she's still acerbic regarding them whenever the conflict is brought up.
north had minimal direct contact with mekhi, and knows him only by aruna (his codename) and his flower combination, hibiscus/plumeria/lilium philadelphicum. jemmy would have you believe that this is proof that they cared about their own goals over any of the fmnetwork members, but in fact they simply deleted the names of the members who left by rote and forgot their real names over time.
mekhi is actually pretty chill with north - he's always been the type to see both sides of an argument and could relate to both north's and jemmy's opinions, but he joined the fmnetwork because of jemmy so in the end he left when she did. he's currently wondering whether to contact them to see whether they know anything about her disappearance.
north has never met hyunjin, and honestly it would be a disaster if they ever did. hyunjin would immediately start on a verbal diatribe attacking the sincerity of their motives and goals with ilumna's translating help, and nothing riles up north faster (or at all) than people who criticise how they're working on the sanctuary.
hyunjin distrusts north's motives for running the sanctuary (despite mekhi's reassurances that they're a decent guy) and is scornful that anyone could believe in such an organization in the first place - the concept goes against his entire worldview. he'd probably spit in north's face if he ever met them.
except in the early days, when north stuck their nose into dexter's business all the time (and vice-versa), they never interacted much with his gang. as dexter's preferred arm-candy, adelland was an exception, but if dexter was hoping for a fight he was sorely disappointed - adelland spoke to north with an icy courtesy, while north treated her much the same as they did everyone else. eventually dexter got bored of pitting her against north and stopped bringing her out to see them; nowadays they politely avoid each other when they do meet.
adelland is aware of dexter's obsession with north, but dismisses it as nothing more than an intense rivalry and is determined not to bring attention to it or let on that she's paying it any mind. quite aside from how much time dexter spends on them, she dislikes north because they remind her of her past lover, who was also quiet and unassuming and charming when he wanted to be, though none of this stopped him from killing her in the end.
all non knows about north is that they're the founder of the fmnetwork and that they're somehow involved with dexter, which given his criminal reputation puts them in extremely mixed company. they've never appeared on her radar before though, so she's willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.
north became concerned about sakhra's intentions after the incident at the Cairo airport. since their last attempted rendezvous with ilumna's help failed, all they can do now is take precautions, watch and wait, and hope that her volatility doesn't result in any further destruction.
sakhra sees north as an annoyance getting in the way of tracking down alyshm and liberating the tuq from the errant thief who stole it from her. it's not their place to ask after her plan of action, nor to know the reasoning behind it.
rome is difficult to approach and is clearly uninterested in speaking with north, understandable given that they're technically on opposite sides. still, north feels like they have an understanding with him; he doesn't feel hostile and he's far more predictable than dexter, so they're comfortable with him as they are with anyone.
rome has found north's presence unexpectedly useful, if only because they can keep dexter distracted when few other things can. unlike many of the events he's engineered so far, he doesn't regret saving them.
north finds zane's blunt honesty refreshing, if exhausting over long periods. they don't really have the mental firepower to puzzle him out when they're more concerned with supporting dexter and getting out of hell with all three of them alive and intact, so they've never looked any further into his motives like they've done with each of the prospective members of the FMNetwork.
north's definitely odd, but they might be a decent guy...? hell if zane even knows anymore. they seem way too mild-mannered to be entangled with people like dexter or rome, though. he can't imagine how such a quiet person would get sucked down into hell, even if they seem weirdly unfazed with all the strange shit that's going down.
north found ilumna's assistance useful while they were running the FMNetwork, but now that they can remotely keep track of all the members of the Sanctuary via the internet they don't really register ilumna anymore, letting them go and do whatever they want as long as they don't bother them while they're working.
after decades of living and working together, ilumna finds north's indifference deeply disquieting, no matter how much they try to laugh it off when other FMNetwork members mention it. they're prone to not-so-subtly devising ways to get their master's attention, while being resentful that they have to resort to such base tactics at all.
