Captain Jacquel

- A half demon, half human pirate

- A bloodthirsty captain of a powerful pirate vessel: The Devil’s Advocate

- His ship frequents a hidden pirate city off the coast of the mainland and the island of Edin: The Isle of Nomads.

- His crew calls him Jac. Only his crew.

- He’s on the shorter side for someone who has demon blood in his veins, standing at about 5”7. He blames his humanness for this atrocity.

- Age 36 (Not that he knows it, but Jac's lifespan is naturally extended past normal human expectation because of his half demon status. He could live to about 150 or so, but that's beginning to push it. (whether he makes it to that age is another story entirely)

- Orange hair in long messy braids, scars, bright orange eyes with human pupils. Freckles. Dull human teeth. Boring human ears. Weak, breakable claws.

- Jacquel is vicious and bloodthirsty when he's been wronged. Human life means nothing to him if it holds no value to him personally. (For this reason, his pirate crew is probably the only human life he cares about, and that's only because they work for him).

- If you leave his crew (good luck making it off the ship in one piece) you'll just become another face in the crowd to him, ripe for the murdering. (Also you’ll probably simply be hunted down and slaughtered by his full demon first mate, Mamon at some point that night, regardless of whether you leave the ship/Jac on good standings. Mamon is always looking for a fun kill and he’ll have his eyes on you the moment you leave Jac’s protection. Have fun!

- Jacquel can and will take things very personally. Choose your words wisely around him, especially if you’re on the subject of half demons, or humans and demons in general. Don’t ramble on about stuff, he’s been known to stab when he gets bored of someone’s voice. The crew like to call it “feeding the fishies.” It's a secret running joke amongst them.

- Jac otherwise holds himself tall and confidently. He has a dangerous calmness to him and stays silent through most conversations. He is a strong observer. Keeps his sentences short and sweet unless otherwise needed. If he’s been quiet for too long, you should probably shut up or stop what you’re doing. Or just leave. Get out of there.

- Carries 2 strangely built pistols (fantasy medieval and a bit steampunky. Has some magic runes on it. What’s it do? Fuck around and find out.)

- Jac also has been known to wield two scimitars. The wooden handles are absolutely stained with blood.

A confident and intimidating asshole, and a cruel cold blooded killer. He only cares about himself and will hold grudges if you cross him. Expect a vile act of revenge in some way, if you do manage to piss him off. It’s fairly easy to do if you’re human.

Jacquel has it out for humans, despite being half human himself. He would give anything to be fully demon and leave the stain of his human blood behind for good. He’s tried various magics in order to change this. It hasn’t worked. Don’t bring it up around him.

He provides little to no mercy and rarely takes prisoners from ships he sinks, unless they hold some material value to him. But your chances of gaining his mercy are higher if you’re some creature other than a human.

Jacquel naturally has long sharp nails, but they break easily (painfully) and grow back slowly (like a human). Therefore, he can't really use them for battle like a typical demon would, and his nails get in the way of closing his palms or using certain weapons. As such, he often begrudgingly trims them. (He does paint them black, though. He is a pirate after all. Arrr matey)

He hates his humanness, finding these things such a hindrance. However, thanks to his demon side, his body heals quicker than a human’s would, can survive more damage and potentially fatal wounds that would otherwise have killed a normal man. Regardless of this, Jacquel still finds himself frustratingly far too fragile for the dangerous life he tends to live. He will push his body to the limits and is adamant on not letting anyone see how much it affects him. Due to this, people think he’s invincible. He’s just very good at hiding pain.

He has been known to fashion weapons of strange and unique natures (or have them fashioned for him should he lack the skill), in order to aid him, or enhance his natural demon abilities. Because of this, he often turns to magic where he can find it in abundance. To his frustration, he is not gifted in the ways of magic, and can’t seem to grasp the concept of it, no matter how hard he tries to learn. He does however, command a smaaaall aura. All demons have an aura (like a magical, invisible extension of your soul outside your physical body) and while his is the size of a pea, he still takes pride in it.

Jac has been known to coerce or even kidnap magic users, or threaten their families in some terrible way, in order to get them to fulfill his wishes or design what he needs designed.

- He tries to avoid outright kidnapping, as he hates having to keep a random person alive while aboard his ship; but if he’s desperate enough for a sorcerer's talents, do not put it past him. Either he’ll hold a loved one ransom, or just outright usher the mage onto his ship. They will not be treated well while aboard, especially if they test his patience. And will likely get stranded on a secluded island, left there to die after he no longer requires their talents. It’s best just to do what he wants right away when he asks for it, and don’t question it.

Due to his known vicious acts of piracy, he has gained quite a reputation with the authorities of land and sea, as well as with his fellow pirates that frequent the Nomad Isles. Plenty of bounties have been placed on his head and he laughs in the face of every single one of them.

Jac’s past

Jacquel’s father was a life realm demon (naturally born in this world and not the Hell realm) and his mother, a mere human peasant.

He was raised mostly by his father, though for the short time his mother was with them when he was a wee lad. She never treated him kindly and her words were cold against him and his father whenever she spoke. He hadn’t known it then, but his mother had been a prisoner of his father.

When he was about 6, his mother disappeared from their lives (fled her captor), and for 3 years, his father traveled him across the mainland, hopping from place to place, living in the shadows of the human world and teaching him how to behave as a half demon. They never stayed in one place for long. Though Jacquel hadn't understood the gravity of the situation back then, his father was being hunted by demon slayers, commissioned by Jac’s mother after her escape.

The slayers eventually laid a clever trap for them, using his mother as bait. Upon seeing her for the first time in years, Jacquel foolishly ran to her in excitement, only for his father to be killed by the ambush of slayers lying in wait.

Jacquel’s own mother tried to kill him, though she was merely an angry peasant woman, not a fighter, influenced by the ways of the Slayers, and simply wanting the wrongs done to her to be put to rest. She hesitated, unable to bring herself to kill her own child, regardless of the vile circumstances of his birth.

Jac took this chance to slash her across the face, piercing an eye as he ran away. Vowing that she would live to regret her hesitation. From then on, he made it his sole purpose to kill her one day.

His mother is out there still, hiding behind the strongest slayer kingdom on the mainland. A near impenetrable force, even with the strongest crew of ruffians at his side. The coward that she is, has never left its confines. She knows he's waiting for her outside its walls. Jacquel is content waiting, however. He is a patient man, and finds the idea of her wasting her life away in fear of him a well fitting revenge, in the meantime.

After the incident when he was 9, the slayers still pursued him. Having learned much from his father during their time dodging danger, living as a demon might, and hiding in the shadows within the human cities, Jacquel found himself a stow away aboard a (rescue) ship headed to Edin. *The island of Edin was currently in great peril after the fall of the Hunter City of Sekkra, bringing upon the demise of the Hunter Kingdom in that land (and eventually the accompanied Slayer kingdom on Edin too. The whole Island of Edin would eventually succumb to Char's horde for the next two hundred years).

Planning his next journey to the Island of Edin, where Jac had heard an abundance of demons gathered now. With the Demon Hunters all but vanquished from Edin, Char’s horde was now free to ravage the land in full force. Jac had high hopes of joining this powerful army of demons, (and in his childish mind, this would somehow make him a full demon himself).

The rescue ship never made it to Edin, however, having been attacked by a band of pirates barely a day out to sea.

The brigands quickly discovered Jacquel, only hesitating to kill him because of his strangely bright eyes and amusingly brash nature for such a scrawny brat.

Upon learning of his half demon status, they decided to keep him aboard the ship, sailing him to the pirate city on the Isle of nomads. An island hidden off the coast between the Mainland and Edin.

Here, Jacquel fell in love. In love with piracy and the freedom To Be, that accompanies it. A lawless city, governed not just by petty humans, but of demons and half demons alike.

Eventually Jacquel gained enough of a brutal reputation to gather a crew of human ruffians, those that were willing to join a half demon captain, even gathering a few full fledged demons as well.

- Over the years Jac has decked out his ship with a whole bunch of inventions and doodads that he's either designed himself, or had designed for him. Because of this, his ship is highly unpredictable to his opponents in battle, giving Jac a sharp edge against his enemies.

Jacquel and Mamon

At one point during his travels, Jac encounters a Hellspawn demon by the name of Mamon, barely alive and desperately swimming from the shore off the mainland. Having been pursued not only by demon Slayers, who were currently sailing out to kill him, but Demon Hunters who await the creature’s tired return to shore (should it have avoided the Slayer’s blade at sea).

Needless to say, Jac took advantage of this situation. With his ship currently in disguise as an ally to the Slayer’s, Jac approached the exhausted, wounded demon and pulled it aboard. Promptly flying his pirate flag and annihilating the unprepared slayer ship in the process, scattering the rest of the hunters on shore with his canons.

Jacquel offers to take the demon to the Isle of Nomads (though he was planning on selling the demon for coin when they arrive). However, the two hit it off, and before the end of the voyage, Mamon had already joined Jacquel’s crew, quickly moving up as his first mate not long after.

Jac and Mamon become quite codependent on one another, although Jac absolutely will not admit he needs help at any point. He finds himself looking to Mamon more and more as they travel together.

The Hellspawn demon, being a creature born of Hell and not one of his own planet, fascinates Jacquel. He hears stories of what Hell is like and begins to wish he could visit such a lawless, bloody place. To embrace his demon blood so thoroughly that he could forget ever being part human at all.

During battle, the two work together seamlessly, leaving carnage and pain in their wake. On more than one occasion, the two would venture onto land, finding victims to toy with, experiment Jacquel’s new inventions on, or practice his own demon abilities, that of which Mamon had helped him discover.

- Jac is a tinkerer and an unconventional inventor. He enjoys designing weapons or having unique weapons created to test on his voyages. Jac mentioned he wanted portable handheld cannons (This world does not yet have guns of the like that we know).

Mamon mentions that, "What you're wanting to make is a Gun." and eventually helps Jac design two for each hand, capable of firing without much kickback or delay.

Jac uses these two unique weapons from there on, adjusting them with unique magic traits as time passes. How Mamon knows of such creations only fascinates Jac more. Mamon has been to multiple worlds, not just of Hell or his own realm, but various worlds. Having worked under a demon many years past, a powerful demon that Mamon refuses to speak the name of (Zathura).

Jac is constantly trying to get more information out of Mamon of his past in Hell or other worlds, but the demon clearly enjoys stringing him along. Frustrating, yet intriguing to Jac.

- Flattery is one of Mamon’s best traits to Jac. Though he often does not put up with it for anyone else, Jac finds himself constantly amused by his demon boyfriend on the daily.

Mamon is keen on bestowing upon him many lavish and bizarre finds during their ventures. Often giving him small trinkets to wear via piercings or to tangle in his braids, from clothing, to blueprints of unique weaponry or custom war designs to decorate his ship.

Thank you’ is not in Jac’s vocabulary, but these things are not lost on him and deep down he appreciates being doted on like this, by a demon of Mamon’s stature especially. (Perhaps it makes him feel more demon? Having a demon around like Mamon makes him feel stronger and less like a pathetic human everyday. It also makes him blind to many things that Mamon does to manipulate him, but let's not get into that right now ;) )
