About

Dr. Odette is a confident, somewhat smug mad scientist... specifically a mad entomologist. She has a strong passion for bug type pokémon, and has practically dedicated her entire life to studying them (though she also has a soft spot for poison types as well). She's on a self-imposed mission to catch at least one of every bug type pokémon, a goal that she's been rather successful with. She cherishes all of her pokémon dearly, to the point where she has them roam about her half-lab half-house as if they were all house pets. Of course, that isn't to say she still studies them -- she has extensively researched all of the bug types she has in her possession and has published many works documenting her studies. She also tends to be like a bug whisperer -- bug types find themselves drawn to her, like animals to fairy tale princesses. Since her childhood, she could be found with a Wurmple on her shoulder at almost all times.

In the summer, she spends an extensive amount of time outdoors, catching bugs and battling unsuspecting trainers that just so happen to cross her field of vision. She lives in Striaton City, so she can typically be found in the Dreamyard or Pinwheel Forest. She also spends hours upon hours hatching eggs, to the point where she dedicates one day every month to cycle from her home, all the way to Castelia City, and then back again, with as many eggs as she can carry. During the winter, when bugs are less likely to be found, Odette tends to spend time indoors, either researching or simply just lounging about, watching TV. But should any trainers walk into her home, she'll be quick to invite them for a battle. While she has many bug type pokémon in general, she only has one battle team: Dustox (her ace), Beautifly, Scyther, Vivillion, Beedrill, and a shiny Ribombee.

Backstory

past

As a child, Odette was a bit of a loner. She spent a lot of time holed up at home by herself. Her parents weren't intentionally neglectful, and didn't want to treat her poorly or anything, but they were both pretty busy people. Her mother was a doctor and her father was a breeder, so the two would spend a lot of their time at work. Thankfully, her mother was always close by, working at the Pokémon Center right by their home in Striaton City, but her father was often at the Daycare Center at Route 3, which was quite a bit far in comparison to the Pokémon Center. When Odette was about 8, the couple decided that she was a responsible kid -- responsible enough to be home alone after school during their work days. They were right, thankfully, but Odette often found herself home alone VERY often. She would spend a lot of her evenings playing in the Dreamyard until the sun started to set -- it was close to her house and close to her mom's workplace, so it wasn't any problem. She would often spend time catching bugs, playing with them, and releasing them as she went home. She strongly preferred bug types over all other Pokémon types. One summer evening, as she was on her way home, she found a Wurmple on her porch, lying on its back. It looked a little sickly, so she quickly took it inside and did everything she thought of to nurse it back to health. When her mother came home, Odette tearfully begged her to help heal the Wurmple, and she did -- teaching her all there is to know about taking care of bug pokémon. From then on, with her precious Wurmple, she would spend her after-school time in the Dreamyard, catching bug Pokémon to keep and study.

Present

Since then, Odette has spent great amounts of time studying bug types. As time went on, her Wurmple eventually evolved into a Cascoon, and then a Dustox. Along the way, Odette has caught many other bugs, including the rest of her current battle team. She takes great care of them, and loves them all dearly. She also now has her doctorate in entomology, and has clearly put it to good use, publishing many journals about bug type pokémon. She also has taken up a bit of a liking to poison type pokémon, thanks to her beloved Dustox.

Ollie [ Friendly Rival ]

Back when Ollie lived in Unova, the two women were neighbors. Odette was nothing but kind to Ollie, but the younger trainer couldn't help but be deathly afraid of her -- she is TERRIFIED of bugs (not to mention, she's also afraid of poison types). Odette thought it was kind of cute and silly for Ollie to have such a strong fear of something so... "harmless", so she would often tease her about it. Ollie, on the other hand, was kind of embarrassed to be so easily frightened by such tiny things. However, in the present, the two are no longer neighbors -- Ollie has since moved to Galar, residing in Circhester. The two do keep up with each other through chats, phone calls, letters, and by meeting up during Ollie's occasional trips back to Unova.

Burgh [ Acquaintance

Being a fellow Unovan bug type trainer, Odette really can't help but admire Burgh. Although she's more into STEM rather than the arts, she does have a really strong admiration for his artwork -- she has bought several of his paintings to display in her home/lab. She finds him to be a very influential person. On her monthly biking trips to Castelia City, she tries to pop into his gym for at least ten minutes.

Fennel [ Neighbor ]

Fennel is Odette's next door neighbor and a fellow scientist -- though the two study almost entirely different things. Despite that difference, Odette is almost always willing to lend a hand with any research Fennel is working on.

Vivienne Castillon [ Neighbor ]

Vivienne feels a bit threatened by Odette, which Odette finds hilarious. Odette is a bug type trainer, so she has an advantage over all of Vivienne's pokémon... which Vivienne doesn't like. Vivienne treats Odette amicably, but tends to feel pretty standoffish about battling her. However, Odette doesn't entirely mind this -- she isn't super competitive. Still, Odette can tell that Vivienne is a bit threatened by her... which she teases her about..... which makes Vivienne angry. She knows Odette's teasing is all in fun, but it still makes her a little cranky.
