Nico was a first lieutenant in the Army at the time of the Outbreak. During the Crisis, he was deployed to the front lines to hold back the infected. Ultimately the Army was overwhelmed by the infected. As the high command ordered them to lay down their lives to hold the line at any cost, Nico was prepared to give his life to the defense, but his squadron officer, Sebastian Lockier, ordered him to defy those orders and escort a group of civilians who had missed the evacuation cut-off out of the city to safety.
From safety, Nico watched in horror as his squadron succumbed to the horde, down to Captain Lockier, who called an airstrike on his own position. When the dust cleared, Nico and his group picked up what they could and started off on foot in hopes of making it to a city that was still standing.
The hope of finding a surviving city faded from the group as they soujorned west, enduring constant attacks and struggling to find supplies. Nico struggles to be a leader in the position he was thrust into. He lacks the resolve to make difficult survival decisions. His attempts to keep everyone alive and help everyone they come across has not always resulted in a happy ending...
