Starlight Yukira

Backstory

Yukira lives in a world of darkness- before her time the universe was protected by pilots,a brave team who worked to protect the innocent. But they fell, in a battle against Chaos and those that sought to control it, and the conquerers spread like a deadly plague. Her family fled to the outskirts, desperate to protect her and escape the threat, but every year the agents of Chaos spread farther, conquer more worlds and drain them of their resources, and more and more stars disappear from the sky.

This was the world Yukira lived in, but she was not content. This world was so small, and she yearned for something more. A local hermit, if you will, named Manny soon became a welcome distraction, someone she through happenstance began to pester with questions about everything she was deprived of knowing anything about from the world outside her home. She brought him things, things she found hidden in her families home, things outside of this planet. One day she brought a key, and rather than answer like he had in the past, Manny became upset and chased her away. Upset but undeterred, she looked for more clues- he knew something, and she was going to find out.

Persistant, she came back with everything she could find- journals, documents, a picture of the pilots that were, demanding Manny explain. She wants to see the stars again, she explains, pointing at a picture Manny took himself years ago, though she did not know it. Finally, he breaks, admitting that he wants to as well, and leads her to where he had hidden his own ship.

Manny powers up the ship, remarkably clean for having been abandoned many years ago due to him not able to fully abandon it, and the AI Turing that controls the ship appears. She's glitchy and broken, but says she can be prepared, but the other keys/pilots need to be found to open the base where they can attempt to fix her. And thus the quest for the pilots begins, with Manny and now Yuki at the helm.

They begin with the one pilot Manny knows survived the devasting blow many years ago, Owain, who does not take kindly to Manny's appearance but agrees to join in the end. The next key seems to be held hostage by a space pirate of sorts, Kazuya. The team attempts to get it back, but Kazuya refuses to give the key up, and reluctantly agrees to join the squad. Only one key is left, which happens to be located with Static, an alien who at one point was experimented on and controlled by Chaos and its agents. Now freed but still with the chaotic glitch power Chaos used to control him, he has been guarding a key from everyone who came. However, Manny before he was captured was friends with him, and with their reunion, Static is is convinced to join as the final main team memeber.

There's a bunch more but not as fleshed out so I'll just kinda ramble for a bit- to pilot the ships you have to make an empathetic link with Turing- Manny and Owain have worked with her before, so they are familiar with how it works, but the new team members each have different struggles with it at first. Yukira is particularly self-concious, not as familiar with tech in general as her parents were traditionalists and thought keeping her away from things would protect her (also she's a little gay for Turing, which makes things harder.) It takes a bit, to all effects a date with Turing and an understanding that while she may not know exactly how everything works, all she needs to do is trust in Turing and she is able to make that connection. Once that connection is made she is pretty natural at flying, though can have a tendency for her emotions to get away from her which sometimes needs a bit of a reign in. She wants to work on it though, wants to protect everyone, make sure everyone can be free, and cares deeply for Turing and the other pilots.

And here's some brief notes of a couple other characters involved that affect Yukira, but still working on fleshing stuff out. Jones, a scientist who the team recruits to help fix Turing, turns out to be a double agent for Chaos agents but has a change of heart (Yuki does not take that betrayal well but is quick to forgive in the end) Aem- works for Chaos, tricks Yuki at some point with some gay to steal her key, but can't quite fly the ship cause doesn't know how to work with Turing- Chaos sees her potential with that though and forcibly makes her a Chaos pilot- something something power of love from Yuki will get through to her to save the day at the last moment, but probably not soon enough to save Aem ;-;
